@silverpill

Not sure if you would have noticed the boost so I've pinged you on the QuotePost.

@tallship @silverpill @tallship @darnell is this about boosts or comments? The WordPress plugin does only support comments for now, because WordPress does not know the concept of other reactions and we are not sure yet how to display them.

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@tallship @silverpill @tallship and like @darnell mentioned, WordPress has an approval system for comments, so it could be that it has to be approved first and it could take some time to show up.

Sorry!

A question for the federistas.

If I paste the URL of a Threads post into a Mastodon site, shouldn't it be able to get a federated copy of the post and have the URL be a way to summon up a specific post?

I honestly don't understand how to create a link between the two. I don't think I've ever seen a Threads message on Masto.

As with everything in ActivityPup, the way to do something wonderful always escapes me! I'm not kidding.

I can seemingly no longer reply to federated comments on my Wordpress sites from my blog accounts. I'm forced to "reply on the Fediverse" and then jump through some hoops to post a reply from a different account. It seems like a step backwards, I really liked the two-way federation of comments. Now it only seems to go one-way. Am I missing something? Is there a way to make the "reply on the Fediverse" optional, so I (if not visitors) can choose to reply on my blog as my blog?

@pfefferle

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@AdamStuartSmith this should still work, but only for authors that can publish posts! Do you have the blog in single user mode?

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@AdamStuartSmith do you expect that if you comment as a user, that it will be published under the name of the blog? There are different opinions on that and I try to find out the best wax to handle that. fyi: https://github.com/Automattic/wordpress-activitypub/issues/711

@lordmatt Hey, just wanted to give you a heads up that you've got some issues with the webmention plugin. I tried to read your most recent post, and I'm just getting a JSON dump. Screenshot attached.

I guess it's related to: https://github.com/Automattic/wordpress-activitypub/issues/580

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@lars @lordmatt this is a most common caching issue, if the caching system does not support content negotiation. For local cache plugins, you have to change the plugin to one that supports it, or in cases of a third party caching system (Litespeed), you could try to enable Vary header support: https://github.com/Automattic/wordpress-activitypub?tab=readme-ov-file#constants

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@lars @lordmatt If you have no caching plugin in place, you could try to enable the Vary header feature (linked in my comment above) and try to see if that works.

@tim @pfefferle @dansup

Hate to be "that guy" again, but there's another edge case that breaks the Litespeed cache fix for the Activitypub WP plugin.

When Pixelfed fires off ActivityPubFetchService.get, it sends an Accept header of:

"application/activity+json, application/ld+json"

Although this is matched in the ActivtyPub plugin, it isn't matched in the Litespeed Cache fix. With the same effects as before.

I've amended the RewriteCond to match the plugin regex for now. That seems to work.

@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@heathenstorm @tim @dansup awesome! feel free to add a PR for the FAQ of the plugin!

is there a best practice to set plugin default settings or do (db) migrations on plugin install and update?

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@kraftner the upgrader_process_complete is tricky anyway, because it is triggering the old code!

I hoped to avoid a regular check to save resources, but there seem to be no alternative :(

Thanks for your reply!

@ctietze First: I am always excited if a platform opens up and supports open standards!

Second: I think this could solve a lot of issues in the short term, like for example if you want to move from one service to another, it is nice to have a platform that helps you manage your social graph! It is also helpful to have a central ID that helps you delegating things, when it comes to discovery for example.

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@ctietze ...and I would not call it a "central" ID. It is an ID, that you could use, the same way you currently use your Domain.

A lot of IndieWeb folks are using their domain, the exact same way, to link to their "online identities" with rel-me.

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@ctietze and to be a bit more general: I think a big issue of the fediverse is, that you do NOT have a central ID, that is independent of the platform you are using (compared to classic hosting, where the domain does not have to be provided by the same company that provides the hosting)!

Btw. this is also the main reason why Bluesky did it's own thing and built their ATProtocol on top of DIDs.

@tim I am still trying to figure out what’s „happening“ to be honest!
