Joe, to wordpress

Anyone use the ActivityPub plug-in on their Wordpress site?

I'm having problems with the plugin on mine. It only partially works.

You can discover the site profile through mastondon/etc. and send a follow request, but that's it. The follow requests/approvals don't ever go through. It just hangs indefinitely.

The site is a newly installed/bluehost hosted site using the Cue theme.

I've also added the webfinger and nodeinfo plugins as well just to see if that would make a difference, but no dice.

Any ideas?

@dan @Joe when have you tried it the last time? It now works really nice on every Automattic infrastructure!

darnelltv, to fediverse

So after being alerted by @tallship / @tallship & @silverpill that my ActivityPub settings were a bit wonky, I decided to take some time & investigate.

After further analysis, my settings were a bit wonky, as the site could no longer ping user handles (weird, I know).

I decided to embrace the spirit of Serenity / Firefly & quit “fiddling” to find out what the issue was.

Opening scene from Serenity MovieI deactivated & reactivated the ActivityPub plugin & installed the NodeInfo(2) plugin (both are by @pfefferle).

So now, the site can ping users when mentioning handles, but I am still unsure why the site was not working previously or if the underlying issues were addressed.

If anyone else has any issues, feel free to ping me at @darnell (my Mastodon account), as being a part of the Fediverse is important to me.

@darnelltv @tallship @tallship @silverpill @darnell do you use a caching plugin? maybe the re-activate cleared the cache and that's why it seems to work again?

@darnell @darnelltv @tallship @tallship @silverpill 🤔 and now it’s working again? (have to check why that might have happened)

Hmmm, must admit that adding the ActivityPub to a WordPress site is officially slick. First effort with our @oeglobal podcast site https://voices.podcast.oeglobal.org

First changed all old posts ti a new user named "voices", enabled plugin, and boom! Off the races. Follow @voices

Waiting for first post to appear

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@cogdog @oeglobal @voices oh nice, do you use a podcast plugin?

I am curious, how we can make the audio more prominent!

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@cogdog @oeglobal @voices 🫣

If you use the post format audio, it should set the focus on audio, but I am not sure how Blubrry is setting the audio to the post… do they use normal audio blocks?

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@cogdog @oeglobal @voices there is a setting in the new version that comes out next week, that tries to best format the activity based on the post format. If this setting is enabled, the activitypub plugin will add the needed post formats settings 🙂

@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@cogdog @oeglobal @voices I will publish a Post about how it works next week!

@salvomic@flipboard.social avatar

I installed the plugin in my blog (https://www.salvomicciche.com) but I still can't see the posts from @news or @salvomic here.
Any advice?

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@salvomic you seem to use a caching system that blocks the content negotiation. this request should return JSON:

curl "https://salvomicciche.com/modica-in-28mm-shots/" \
-H 'Accept: application/activity+json'

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@salvomic besides of that, you seem to host your site on siteground and they also block the WebFinger endpoints https://salvomicciche.com/.well-known/webfinger?resource=acct%3Asalvomic%40salvomicciche.com

So long story short: it sadly does not work on siteground shared hosting 😞

@salvomic here is some context, maybe it helps: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/not-working-on-siteground-servers/

good luck 🤞

what do you think about: set all linked mastodon (et al) posts as in-reply-to when federating a posts!?!

very similar to the old and not so old days?

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@morph if you link to a Mastodon post or another post from the Fediverse within a WordPress post.

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@manualdousuario sure! for now I only think about linking public posts, because the WordPress plugin does not yet support private direct mentions.

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@lascapi I am not sure if we have the same in mind? I thought sending a WordPress post in reply to the (in the post) linked mastodon et al notes!?!

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@lascapi if we think about the same: it is hard to prvent spam, because the plugin is open source and with some changes spammers could implement that feature already 😔

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@mat @laurenshof so we really need an extensible link overlay to add more semantics to a link!

Not sure if you would have noticed the boost so I've pinged you on the QuotePost.

@silverpill can you maybe send me an invite for your mitra.social instance that I can run some tests?

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@silverpill @tallship @darnell @tallship @darnell that can't be the problem! I implemented every possible Content-Type out there.

... and it works properly on my blog.

So I would assume it has something to do with the blog of @darnell . I will check that later today.

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@darnell @silverpill @tallship @tallship @darnell We test every change up to PHP 8.2 (and I am also using 8.2 on my blog), so it might be the configuration of your 8.2?!?

https://github.com/Automattic/wordpress-activitypub/blob/master/.github/workflows/phpunit.yml

But Content-Negotiation is always tricky on Shared-Hosting 😞

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@darnell @silverpill @tallship @tallship @darnell @darnell @darnell @darnell @darnell it seems to be the follow process (at least using mitra).
