With the Texas class disaster, they create a “Arizona Class” ship which is partially automated. The lower decks group becomes the bridge crew - and the only crew on the ship. They think they are in charge, but the computer and a shadowy group of scientists are actually pulling all the strings. Can they prove that they are the real ones in charge?
was motivated to run several years ago when he was told that his energy rates would nearly triple since he installed rooftop solar on his home. “I couldn’t believe it, the nearby ASP [Arizona Public Service] district has more than triple the amount of rooftop solar. Higher rates are a complete disincentive to getting solar power. We need new leadership on the board.”
I’m trying to parse this.
I know HIS rates tripled. Did they triple BECAUSE he installed rooftop solar? Maybe because he wouldn’t use as much, they raised his rates instead of just charging the correct amount to connect to the grid. That would make “Higher rates are a complete disincentive to getting solar power” make sense.
But, it also sounds like he installed solar, and later ALL RATES TRIPLED; which is more likely. However, if I didn’t have solar and my rates were increasing, the time to pay back on solar would decrease. Thus, higher rates incentivize a move to solar, opposite of what he is saying.
I’ve seen lots of pictures of Hong Kong protests, and hear about rent protests in Beijing, but haven’t seen many photos like this in Beijing proper in the 21st century. Are they that good at scrubbing the web, or did I just miss them?
I just watched Measure of a Man, they rule Data has the right to choose. But in Voyager the EMH gets relegated to forced servitude. Why? Doesn’t that violate precedent?
A bit off topic, but there is going to be a lot of AI anachronism that legacy universe sci-fi writers are going to have to deal with. How come in 2024 we have LLMs, but (insert previously tech coherent universe here) in (future date) is doesn’t have/ is just now discovering AI?
If we want this to stop we need to completely obliterate their ability to make war
So, as Putin says, denazify?
Hitler tried to kill off all the jews, and it didn’t work. BECAUSE YOU CAN’T KILL AN IDEA. That is also why israel will fail in “destroying Hamas”, and Hamas or anyone else will fail in “destroying Israel”. Ideas can’t be killed through drones or tanks, just people. And killing people just makes ideas stronger. I think there was a prime example of that in Israel, say, 2000 years ago?
I was surprised that the killing of Iran’s defense secretary, and Iran blowing up buildings on us bases in retaliation back during Trump didn’t trigger something. Weird thought: Trump didn’t retaliate after that, so if Biden does, does that make Biden more a warmonger than Trump?
I feel like this is just an extension of the “my child, my property” mindset that republicans have. Sure, like others have argued, there might be cases of 25 year-olds genuinely falling in love with first cousins and the whole goverment-shouldn’t-regulate-love thing; but the vast majority of these cases are going to be home-schooled together groomed kids who parents fear having romantic relations outside the family might introduce them to non-conservative or non-religious viewpoints which might break their narcissistic control over their kids lives.
The ban goes into effect 2 weeks after the decision. 28 weeks later, Arizona gets to vote on an amendment that allows abortion up to viability. How many weeks until a fetus is viable? ~28 weeks. I guess don’t be pregnant right now or get pregnant for like until the end of April.
We need a “Trump spends a day in jail” index, where an update to a case yielding 1 day in jail after all appeals are said and done going from 0% likely conviction to 100% likely conviction is a TDIJ value of +1. It would require use of actuarial tables to determine the likely-hood of Trump being alive at the start of the sentence, as well as how long he would serve statistically based on the same actuarial tables and the likely-hood of a medical pardon at old age based on age-and-race based medical pardon rates. The start date would be estimated based on the average length of Trump-post-president appeal lengths to each level of court, and the total time served in federal cases (but not state cases) would be multiplied by Biden’s current polling average. I’m not sure how to set up the likely conviction percentages, but I guess swings in Las Vegas betting markets could be used for a stand in.
I got Disney plus through some bundle somewhere, and when I try to cancel it, it just says “this is being paid by the Disney+ bundle, you have to cancel it there.” I don’t know where there is!
It’s a significant reversal from recent history: President Joe Biden is struggling with young voters but performing better than most Democrats with older ones.
So, how is this more democratic AND Nebraska doing away with EVs by congressional district less democratic? Is making the winner based on less granular vote or more what we want?
When Trump stopped the asylum seekers from staying in the country while there case was heard (the apply on your side policy) and Biden kept the policy, all of the cheep construction workers disappeared. Why houses cost so much these days.
