Apologies folks. My auto-monitoring script hasn't been working properly, and so purging the push queue was not working. I've done this manually for now.

ratcatcher,

@squish I'm still not seeing messages from this account on my other @ratcatcher one.

@Mastodon

I have heard of a number of situations where an instance has ceased to operate without notice and the users of that instance cannot migrate their accounts. So, even if they have been able to export their list of accounts they follow, they have lost all of their followers and have to start again.

In my own case, neurodifferent.me is still up and running, and posts from other instances are reaching it. But nothing is getting out to other instances. This includes posts and migration requests.

Are there any tools that could be built to allow migration from a defunct or crippled server? Obviously safeguards would need to be built in and there would need to be some way to export one's list of followers (as part of routine backups, before the instance becomes inaccessible, obviously).

I can still access my account @ratcatcher so I would happily test such a tool.

ratcatcher,

@lapingvino

Have you heard from @squish then?

ratcatcher,

@lapingvino

Can you say more? Is @squish OK? Will they be posting an announcement here?

ratcatcher,

@lapingvino

Did @squish give any idea of when connectivity will be restored?

To my shame I have used the "everyone is on the spectrum" phrase in the past.

Eventually I realised that my perspective was down to the fact that I, myself, was autistic - and not a "little bit".

@Zumbador @actuallyautistic

ratcatcher,

@H2O

I, too, have used the term "superpower" (in a somewhat tongue-in-cheek way).

I do think it's reasonable, though, to acknowledge that we may have particular strengths in some areas, as well as weaknesses in others, and that that may be down to our autistic profile.

@RickiTarr Wasn't even aware of that racial slur - had to look it up. I guess it's better known in USA.

As you are blocked by her, you probably haven't seen the post, but she is lamenting elsewhere that she's really not getting much out of being on social media and intends to quit soon. She has made over 8000 posts on Mastodon.

I can identify with the cigarette smell in particular. To a lesser extent fish (also raw meat) and some foods.

ratcatcher,

But other smoke (unless it's particularly acrid or toxic) doesn't bother me. In fact I actually like wood or turf (peat) smoke.

Yeah, you did try. And that's the whole point. You were willing to give it a go. Now you know where you feel at home - at least for now.

Greta Thunberg is not a one-trick pony and direct action is not her sole strategy.

She is also articulate, intelligent, and able to speak truth to power. She, and other remarkable young people like her, are my main hope for the future of the world (at least as far as the presence of life on it is concerned).

I presume you realise that every long, frivolous hashtag you generate will end up in the list of suggestions you see when you start to type a hashtag?

@ScottSoCal @yourautisticlife @actuallyautistic

ratcatcher,

@ScottSoCal

I wasn't moaning, in fact I find it darkly amusing.

@dave @yourautisticlife @actuallyautistic

ratcatcher,

@Gtmlosangeles

Exactly.

The main thrust of the discussion was about people who had recently realised they were autistic, or thought they might be, wondering if it was OK to use certain hashtags/groups.

As long as there are at least a few of us following each of the hashtags and groups, we will see the posts from newbies and can welcome, clarify and point them at the other hashtags/groups.

Now I gotta add more tags to my autistic hashtag tab and it always takes me a while to remember how to get to that bit of the app shakes fist at sky

I think I missed asking autistics off it anyway.

#ActuallyAutistic #AllAutistics #AutisticMe

Am I missing any good ones? #AskingAutistics

(I wish the suggested tags were in camel type so I don't have to type the whole thing out every time.)

ratcatcher,

@Aerliss

You missed the corresponding groups that you can follow and post to:

I'm kind of curious: did any cis white men on the fedi even notice the big conflict a bunch our communities on here just went through, the racist and transphobic things that spilled into people's feeds?

I ask because like, the cishet white dudes I follow on here seem to just be posting the same stuff they always do and no sense of anxiety, trauma, or concern in what they share.

It's not that I want cis white guys weighing in on this per se, it's just...I wish for all of us to have the privilege of the social media experience of the average cis white man. 😓

(NOTE: Just to clarify, it appears a lot actually did see some of it but were only catching snippets and indirect comments, and did the right thing of not becoming that reply guy jumping into a fight they weren't a part of. Appreciate getting the perspective because it's hard to gauge what others experience on here)

ratcatcher,

@JoscelynTransient

I read a lot of it and commented sparingly (mainly to ask questions).

TheEuropeanNetwork, (edited ) to uk

No one said that having kids would be cheap. But should preschool cost a third of your income?

The screams you’re hearing are coming from UK parents, who are beginning to organise around the outrageously high costs of taking care of young children.

As Bloomberg reporter Olivia Konotey-Ahulu explores in her article today, England is one of the most expensive places in the world to take care of young children, relative to income.

For anyone having issues with the #ActuallyAutistic hashtag, there is also #AllAutistics and @allautistics (the latter being a recently created group that you can follow and post to).

They are intended for anyone who is (or thinks they might be) autistic (formally or self-diagnosed).

ratcatcher,

@FrightenedRat

I didn't actually come up with the #AllAutistics tag, but I think the meaning is clear enough: all autistics can use this tag.

I don't think the idea of anyone claiming to speak on behalf of anyone else has any relevance to the use of the hashtag and/or group.

@allautistics @actuallyautistic

ratcatcher,

@Gtmlosangeles

Just do whatever works for you. It's not "my" hashtag.

Hello! 👋
I'm Mar.

I'm in flow when I can focus on the endless beautiful forms and patterns of nature. I love seeing how things connect. I used to observe nature as a job (as a scientist), but I could not survive in academia.

I'm also a mom.

A year or so ago, I found out about neurodivergence. Reading and listening to the accounts of autistic people sharing their experience filled me with an overwhelming feeling of peace and kinship. This lead to a path of self-discovery. I'm also learning about ADHD as my partner and my kid are AuDHD.

I'm also an immigrant.

ratcatcher,

@marews

Welcome.

If your journey is currently leading to the view that you yourself are NT, you may wish to follow and use the hashtags:

#Autism
#Autistic

If you are moving towards the view that you yourself are autistic, and/or in other ways ND, you may wish to follow:

#ActuallyAutistic
#AllAutistics
#AutisticMe

and these groups:

@actuallyautistic
@allautistics
@autistic.me@a.gup.pe

If that results in too much stuff in your home feed, you can always stop following some of them later.
