Anyone have any Hurricane making advice? This is for the cocktail, not a cyclone. :) I'd prefer not adding to my over-extensive liquor collection, but I'm happy to buy or make syrups or other inexpensive items. I imagine I need passionfruit. ;) I live in an #alcohol control state (#NorthCarolina), so ordering a particular booze can be hard. Cheers! 🍸

I use a 1:1 mix of passionfruit puree and rich simple syrup, but apparently it’s meant to be “fassionola” which is similar but not quite the same. My circa-2022 operator UI for the Cuddlefish art car. It uses a simple immediate-mode GUI crate I carry around, on top of lilos. The hardware is a Seeed Wio Terminal, which is a pretty nice little widget.

Text is rendered in my Futura-knockoff typeface by my proportional rendering library, SEFF. (Kernel through typeface...am I full stack?)

It does 60 fps and time sync for all the LED controllers in the car, over RS485.

@nicklockwood If it’s the first it’s dumb, if the second it could be great and I have no idea why people are upset. What I’ve found ChatGPT really good for is asking questions where I suspect the answer is hiding behind an “unknown unknown” and it’ll come back with the magic keyword or API name I can then look up in Wikipedia or the reference docs. SO-powered ChatGPT would be awesome!

A fire installation at unSCruz, the Burning Man regional event for Santa Cruz. It’s a shallow metal bowl plumbed for propane and suspended upside down 8 feet in the air. The flame is starved for oxygen and blooms and spreads when fresh air drifts into the bowl.

I laid beneath it on a cold evening this weekend, and it was marvelous.

This video is normal speed and completely unretouched, including hippie chatter in the background.

My first attempt at making an espresso tonic did not go as planned 🌋

A glass of tonic next to an espresso shot. In the background is an espresso machine. The espresso shot is poured into the glass of tonic causing the mixture to produce foam and flow out of the glass. It looks like a small coffee explosion.

@BenAveling @danhon Good point, but you kind of have to speak a language other than English to escape the Murdochsphere Anglosphere takes. My wife makes a point of only reading about American politics from Der Spiegel, for example. But right now you’ve going to get a better overview of the current (unhinged) politics of Germany from The Guardian.

Google is changing their search results a lot based on their LLM experiments. This feels like a fundamental shift in how the internet works for people. It’s drastically reducing links to third party websites and focuses on both the AI driven results and then tons of links to video content mostly on youtube.

So we’re seeing both LLM’s summarizing content hiding the original sources and also creating a environment where a huge portion of the content on the web is LLM created.

This is a mess that threatens to break the internet as it currently exists. The shift is going to be massive, disrupting most internet businesses and by extension the broader economy.

@76c71aae3a491f1d9eec47cba17e22@mostr.pub I use DDG as my primary search engine and fall back to Google (with !g) when I can’t find what I need. But increasingly getting worse results than DDG when I do that. Google hastening their demise into irrelevance here. Perplexity are doing much better than G for RAG-the-Internet style search.
