Gender Identity Scale

I’ve recently begun going through a bit of a personal renaissance regarding my gender, and I realized my numbers-focused brain needs something to quantify gender identity, both for myself and so I can better understand others. I also just don’t like socially-constructed labels, at least for myself....

retronautickz,

It makes sense, if we’re only talking about midbinary genders. But as someone with a lot of abinary genders, no, I wouldn’t be able to use this scale to quantify most of my genders.

They all would end up with 0,0,0, which in no way quantifies the differences in quality and intensity between them.

retronautickz,

fedi196.gay which currently isn’t loading for me

Nor for me. I have an account there, or had because it looks like it might have gone offline.

retronautickz,

For what I understand Meta only reached Mastodon/Misskey/Pleroma and PixelFed instance admins. There hasn’t been mention of they even reaching Friendica/socialhome/hubzilla admins. So I doubt they even care contacting admins from “non-competing” software based servers

Also, I don’t think the NDA stops admins from disclosing they were contacted by Meta. It only stops them to talk about what’s been discussed on these reunions, because several tech bros at mastodon where prouly announcing they were “invited by Meta to a talk about the future of the Fediverse” and how they accepted. So the admins of Lemmy World deciding not to confirm or deny doesn’t necessarily prove they signed anything.

retronautickz, (edited )

This.

People like to ignore the fact that the main concern people signing or supporting the fedipact have is the well-being of marginalised/oppressed communities that have made the fediverse their home because big social media wasn’t safe for us.

Meta has a history of promoting a hostile environment for queer people, people of colour, non-Christian people, poor and homeless people, activists, people with uteri, etc.; and it actively whitelists groups that promote hate and violence against these communities. Meta coming here puts all of us members of marginalised groups in danger.

I remember listening to a podcast from The Verge where they portrayed the anti-meta pact as primarily a way for tech men to keep control of these spaces.

It’s funny (not really) that they want to portray the fedipact that way because techbros/tech men are the only ones here that see Meta “joining” the fediverse as a great oportunity/something positive

retronautickz,

We definitely do not need business or premium services here.

retronautickz,

I see you have trouble with people not agreeing with you…

retronautickz,

your use of the “Royal We” to express a personal opinion.

You do understand that it’s an expression, don’t you?

not backing up said opinion with any type of argument, which makes it sound like you are simply stating it as a fact.

It’s a fact. Monetisation of any kind is against the mere idea of federated social media. People com here to be away from corporations, advertising and the like. The model of social media that seeks to make social networking into a business model is in crisis, why would anyone want to made the fediverse into that?

retronautickz,

You could have checked it before and follow their Mastodon-style account and join their matrix and/or discord groups, like most of us did.

Because everything they do server-wise is announced in those places, preemptive shutdowns included.

Alternative ways to reach the admin team and to be kept aware of anything happening with the server exist. If you didn’t take the time (seconds) to join at least one of them, that’s not the server’s owners fault.

retronautickz,

Considering the responses to the thread, I don’t think that’s true.

Given that you aren’t in any of the groups, nor following their mastodon account. I don’t think what you think based on the responses on a sole thread has any merit

A lot of people, myself included, are still getting used to Lemmy. The status quo has been if stuff was happening to Reddit there was an easily accessible server status page you could search up. I tried to do the same this time around and Google came up with diddly-squat. I don’t think googling Beehaw to figure out what’s going on is that illogical of a response.

Every time you open Beehaw (or any Lemmy instance for the matter) on the right side you’ll find the description of the server below the “trending communities” box. There the admins put important links, including the three alternative ways to reach them (Mastodon, Matrix and Discord). You didn’t have to google anything, it was just taking a look the main page of the server, see the section titled “Beehaw” and read it (Something that could have been done any time the server was up)

retronautickz,

I’m gonna say this only once, but that’s an incredibly rude thing to say. I was giving you the benefit of the doubt in my previous reply but it’s obvious now that you’re just treating me like an idiot.

Yeah, because you haven’t been rude from the beginning (you were)

People (including me) explained to you how you could have reached the admins and stay in touch so this kind of thing wouldn’t take you by surprise. When you had been explained several times this things and you keep insisting you don’t have any option because “you couldn’t google it”, one has to begin to think that you’re doing this in bad faith.

retronautickz,

I didn’t even know Evernote was still a think. I thought it had died years ago

retronautickz,

Sexual attraction means you look at someone and think “I’d fvck them”

Romantic attraction means you look at someone’s personality and behaviour and think “I wanna date them” or “I wanna be in a romantic relationship with them”

retronautickz,

Reddit had/has the same problem. It’s just that federation makes it way more obvious on the threadiverse.

retronautickz,

I looked for astronomy-related names, and ended up choosing the name of an asteroid ((2) Pallas)

Why are some community's appearing as empty in kbin while if you go to their instance they have posts ?

retronautickz,

Troubles with federation, probably.

Federation between servers, especially servers using different software, isn’t always immediate. Sometimes It takes time for a post/thread in a given community or magazine to appear for users on other servers distinct to the one the community is hosted.

Kbin and Lemmy are particularly bad at federating, both being relatively new. Threads and comments take time to be visible to people on different servers. (It has happened to me personally having commenting with my Lemmy account (this one) and not being able to see the comment with my Kbin one, or vice versa)

retronautickz,

Have you tried writing (your instance url)/c/altersex@kbin.social on the address bar of your browser?

retronautickz,

Meanwhile the fediverse microblogging alternatives have either three or four timelines, none of them algorithm-driven

retronautickz,

Defederation is not toxic, it’s an essential tool. The ability to choose what kind of contents and account you can see is one of the best part of decentralised social networks.

retronautickz,

There are limits to defederation at a user level. Hard defederation can only be done at a server level.

And server owners have the responsibility to keep their place safe from bad actors

How do they do that? By defederating servers that contain and promote that type of people and content.

A place like Beehaw that calls itself a safe space for marginalised groups cannot federate with anything owned by Meta, which openly allows racist, ableist and anti queer rhetoric on their platforms.

They already block a long list of alt-right servers, why would threads (that has already whitelisted alt-right propaganda groups like libsoftiktok) be any different?

When I choose this server I did because I knew they would defederate from any server promoting alt-right/“free speech” rhetoric

Do you currently use Linux, or would you consider giving Linux a shot?

I get the feeling that Lemmy has a relatively higher concentration of Linux users. I’m preparing to move over to Linux when I build my new computer. I already put Linux Mint Cinnamon edition on one of my old laptops and I like it quite a bit. I figure that since I’ve been wanting to switch over for years, I should just do...

retronautickz,

I’m interested on trying Linux, but I honestly don’t know Where to begin or which “version” is better for me

Games are not a problem for me as I don’t care much (at all) about them
