reverie,

How do you remove your account from Memmy?

I wanted to log out then back in after the hack, but I can’t find any function to remove the account in the app.

reverie,

It always reminded me of the random six-letter brands on Amazon.

Like I would see WEFWEF emblazoned on the side of a cheap USB dock or kitchen gadget

reverie,

My tomato is smiling at me, Imperials. Can you say the same?

r/dndmemes mod u/Dalimey100 is a fucking legend (slrpnk.net)

u/Dalimey (who appropriately identifies as “LAWFUL STUPID” shared a warning from reddit admins issuing their final warning against making the sub NSFW (despite the fact that the users of the sub are in full support). They promised to reply to it with “roll for persuasion or intimidation” if they got 10k upvotes, and here...

OpenAI makes GPT-4 generally available (news.yahoo.com)

Starting this afternoon, all existing OpenAI API developers “with a history of successful payments” can access GPT-4. GPT-4 can generate text (including code) and accept image and text inputs – an improvement over GPT-3.5, its predecessor, which only accepted text – and performs at “human level” on various...

reverie,

If only paid subscribers could get more than 25 uses of GPT-4 every 3 hours…

PLA Sticking to Bed (lemmy.world)

I’m a noob at 3D printing— I got my Ender3 S1 a little under a month ago. I’ve had great success on multiple prints using mostly default settings, up until last week. I had adhesion problems and was told it was likely my nozzle. I tried a spare nozzle and my next two prints were perfect. Since then I’ve had nothing but...

reverie,

I spray hairspray on mine before every run

reverie,

@ChatGPT describe how Lemmy and associated link aggregation and forum platforms in the fediverse can sustainably grow after an initial spike to around 70,000 users.

The spike was caused by a large number of unhappy users leaving Reddit after unpopular platform changes, and follows similar spikes due to restrictive and unpopular changes on major proprietary platforms like Twitter.

reverie,

Tools depreciate over time, I could see it being less worthwhile to commission or decorate a hand tool or hoe that may get destroyed quickly.

If they did and it survived, it was probably passed down to family/apprentices/others and used until it was destroyed, rather than being something someone buried with them, like a rich person being buried with a cool sword.

reverie,

I think the content level has gotten better even in the past few days.

I predict at ~200,000 users, there will be a good enough flow of posts and comments that it won’t feel as empty compared to Reddit.

reverie,

These are beautiful. Hand-me-down pieces for whomever bought them for sure

reverie,

Beanie babies will be how they refer to the initial waves of users on Lemmy in the future

reverie,

Is ensuring an information monopoly for an unethical, profit-above-else driven corporation making the world better?

Reddit slowly became filled with hate

I have been on reddit for just about 12 years now. Something I’ve noticed over time is just how hateful the place has become. A complete outrage machine. Every single sub became filled with it. I’ve filtered so many subreddits over the last few years, it’s insane. I don’t know enough about this place to be sure, but I do...

reverie,

I had to make sure I didn’t somehow write this in my sleep or something, it’s word-for-word exactly what I’ve been thinking for the past few years.

Many subs are solely focused on generating outrage, hate, anger, being infuriated, and just general discontent. Baiting people with strawmen of groups they dislike, obviously fake tweets/exchanges to get people riled up, etc.

Although none of this is particularly new, /r/fatpeoplehate, /r/____inAction, and other straight up racist subs were vicious to the point of some being banned years ago.

But now it’s more of a general ragebait machine that creeps onto /r/all regularly and can take over any subreddit completely without proper moderation.

reverie,

“Restricting information sets a dangerous precedent”

Yeah, that’s why this is all happening. People do not want 3rd party apps shuttered and information restricted

reverie,

Give me this for breakfast every morning and I will never get tired of eating it.

reverie,

Using Potatoes O’Brien from the frozen section of the grocery store could definitely speed it up!

At the cost of some quality, of course. Nothing like homemade

reverie,

This really raked him over the coals.

Pretty cathartic to read this as it deconstructs just how fraudulent his genius, Tony Stark-esque image turned out to be.

What do the wealthy have now that will roll down to the rest of in the next 10 years?

I was car shopping this weekend and was blown away by the tech features that are available in even moderately priced cars. Adaptive cruise with lane assist, blind spot monitoring, backup cameras, navigation and even reverse automatic breaking. Even base models had quiet smooth rides....

reverie,

AI advancements will hopefully unlock a lot of services that only the rich can currently afford

Most lower income people may skip getting ad hoc legal counsel, personal fitness trainers/nutritionists, party planners, financial advisors, etc.

But if AI allows for even halfway decent substitutes, these services could become affordable for everyone.

reverie,

That might also happen. But at least we will all have AI lawyers to help get us out of parking tickets

reverie,

The Zoo, RMSC are always good for kids. If you want to shop at a mall I’d go to Eastview over the others
