Hi #retrocomputing Fedi — I have a question. I recently acquired a couple of classics, a ZX81 and an Atari 2600 (both PAL). However, I've not been able to get them going, for the simple reason that the analogue tuner in my (relatively) modern TV can't pick up the RF signal.

While composite video mods are readily available for both, and I'll probably opt for that long term, I'd like to get them working in their original condition. Any suggestions? Would a simple RF amplifier help? #retro #atari

@uliwitness It's not universal (and varies between British and US English), but you're right that "disk" is the conventional spelling for computer media. I may update the image.

A hard thing working on more Bea Wolf is remembering that it really was this hard the first time! The killer thing with poetry is you gotta spend a chapter's worth of time on a single stanza.

@anildash I haven't, but when my daughter was in preschool a few years ago she'd occasionally come home with a drawing on fanfold paper, complete with sprocket holes, and I was genuinely baffled as to where they'd got it from. Looking at this thread, it seems like dot matrix isn't as gone as I thought.

The Italian government just tested their new emergency alert system and, let me tell you, I'm at the beach and EVERYONE's phones started going off at once and nobody knew what was happening. Quite the scene 😆

@viticci Did you have advance warning? We had a similar test in the UK recently and it was widely trailed across the media. (It also failed spectacularly on one of the networks, neatly answering the question of why they need to bother everyone with a test.)
