On a long ride. Never ride with headphones but only recently dawned on me it’s a long time to spend in my own head.

@markboulton on my long rides there are plenty of moments when I don’t think about anything. Is that the nirvana?

@rosetta@mastodon.design avatar

@onpaperwings @markboulton we might have exchanged these comments on Twitter back then.

@onpaperwings @markboulton also, do you know The art of cycling by John Hibbard?

Do people still care about printed specimens? We found a long-forgotten trove with a bunch of “old” ones and are giving most of them away for free (incl. shipping). You are the first ones to know.

You can order them here (first come first served): https://rosettatype.com/products

How about a website where we (font designers and developers) could easily collect bugs regarding font rendering in software? I think this would be useful for the users, so they would know whom to harass.

With Adobe CC having serious issues with variable fonts, we got to explain a lot to our customers that the issues are not in the fonts, but in the apps.

Is there something like that?

This slide from Ariq Syauqi’s talk at the Face/Interface 2023 conference showing non-separation of Balinese words is bonkers!

In other words: syllables are formed across word boundary. How do you emphasize individual words? (And should you?)

Is there any discussion about the issues Adobe InDesign 19 (2024) seems to be having with variable fonts?

I can see this with other fonts than Montserrat (attached), too.

@rosetta@mastodon.design avatar

@ronanmcd thanks, I have just wrote them as well.

They have not been able to explain to us why Handjet is not working since the v18. Worked in v17.

Was reminded today of a video I made of a cyclist friend from 8 (!) years ago.

It’s funny to see your old work and have all sorts of feelings about it. I’m still proud of that video. I made it with a couple friends just for fun, as my love of cycling was growing.

It was also just before I moved away from Missouri to Colorado and feels like an entirely different life ago.

We are excited to announce the publication of Mary Dyson’s book

📔 Legibility: how and why typography affects ease of reading

in a new, digital edition, in English and Spanish.

🚀 https://legible-typography.com

One cannot understate the importance of its publication online. I believe it will have a profound impact on web typography and typographic discourse online, but it would be just as fine if you find it useful for your thinking, practice, or research.

rosetta,
@rosetta@mastodon.design avatar

The project would not be possible without the generosity of the original publisher and editor María González de Cossío from Centro de Estudios Avanzados de Diseño (Puebla, México) and financial support of Google Fonts. The production work for the digital edition was done under the auspices of Rosetta Type with most of the heavy lifting executed by Johannes Neumeier. With further thanks to Sofie Beier, Jeanne-Louise Moys, Carlos Pérez Cerón, Kevin Larson, and Tania Chacana.

@timotheegoguely thank you! There are no plans for French at the moment. But who knows maybe someone will pick up the baton and translate it.

I think I fixed the <html> lang. The buttons are probably misleading reports as these are actual links.
