When I was in the office and buying beans for our automatic machine the Lavazza beans were the most reliable, consistent and highest quality “supermarket” beans I could find for a reasonable price. Personally I liked the Rossa. For myself at home I do use a local small batch roaster and get a subscription. It’s about twice as much cost wise but still works out at only 40p (I’m in the UK) for an espresso, which I’m happy with.
It’s a Thursday again. The worst day of the week. Or is it? Disguised as a Wednesday for those south of the border, and a Tuesday for those of us in the land of the Scots....
I mean, it’s mostly a joke. Because clearly Monday is. Except for those of us who WFH. I live for Mondays because everyone gets the hell out of my space. Anyway, the daily thread once said Thursday was the worst. So I’m running with it.
So that’s why I found them deeply disappointing when I snaffled one from my child selection box last Christmas. So small as well. I mean, I know I’m bigger but they are smaller.
I also checked out during Capaldi, and yesterday I went back to pick it up where I left it - The Zygon Invasion. Honestly, I’m not really sure what to make of it, and I understand why I stopped by watching. All that stuff with him playing the guitar, that really doesn’t work for me. And there is something else, the pacing, the direction, the writing, the acting… I’m not sure what. The regulars are okay, but some of the supporting cast, not so much. Maybe this just wasn’t a good episode and it will pick up.
Here’s the situation - on bin day, I put out my bins with the draghandle facing outwards, because in my mind that means all the bin man has to do is grab the handle. My neighbour however, contends that it is more appropriate to have the bin lid facing outwards as some bin men like to check what’s in the bin before they drag...
Okay. This is acceptable! I was concerned that your neighbour had gone out of their way to criticise your bin orientation, which I’d have classed as, a bit odd.
I’ll have you know it’s only the best Aldi spreadable butter. The clumps are a requirement because the 7 year old will inspect the interior and needs to be able to see the butter.
I went out for a curry with some friends last night, have a fairly straightforward day at work today then a pizza this evening and have a day booked off on Monday: I have some DIY lined up over the weekend....
I’m off on holiday tomorrow and will have basically no internet for over a week. So naturally I’m downloading all the media I can think of, just in case of downtime....
[insert another post from an always confused Scot when in England on a Sunday]
I consider it yet another ADHD tax. We live a less than 5 minute walk from a big Asda that is open 24/7, I seriously don’t think I could cope with wacky Sunday opening rules.
My test game finally came in and I was finally able to test the system. After first it still gave me the blinking light, but a quick easer, ipa, then dexoit treatment to the game fixed it right up....
Congrats! I love working on the NES, aside from having to desolder those PPUs. It’s such a simple system that debugging is relatively straightforward, given the right equipment.
Pikmin! When I worked in a games studio in the early 2000s a couple of people played this religiously on the big screen. I wanted to, but could never get into it. Made me feel a bit sick, which thinking about it I now realise was probably the rear projection setup. Maybe I need to give it another go on the Switch.
And Shenmue! I am only about halfway though Shenmue 1. Played it on the Dreamcast. I feel I must try and get back into it. I think I have 1, 2 and 3 all playable on the Series X.
Ah excellent. I got an Anbernic RG35XX a couple of months ago and am loving it. Had a couple of spare hours at the weekend and just did some grinding for magic in Final Fantasy VI. Nothing else. Just some grinding. Loved it.
I mostly want to play consoles that I know garlic will run, minus the DS. Only DS games I want to run are Pokemon, so the lack of inputs isn't an issue....
A sorry - I totally blanked on your mention of DS. GarlicOS has overclocking if that’s any use. Other than a handful of PS1 games, everything I’ve tried seems to run at full speed, and I don’t think I’ve had any crashes or poor emulation. You might need to fiddle with Retroarch settings to get the best possible scaling. GBA needs non-integer scale unless you want a tiny image, but the interpolation is pretty good. I notice the odd frame pause now and again, which I attribute to the difference between the refresh rate of the core/console vs the screen. Battery life is good to - mine is a more recent version which I think has a bigger battery than the early ones. All in all I’m enjoying it so much I’m considering cancelling my Analogue Pocket preorder.
Edit: also, i’ve not tried HDMI out. I’ve heard that it’s quite limited since (I think) it’s 480p only.
I have a 35XX and use Garlic OS. I’ve not tried anything else, including the stock firmware.
GarlicOS is great and I reckon it does exactly what you want. Tap the power button and it saves the state (assuming the core supports it - most/all consoles do, but arcade cores don’t). You need to hold the power button to turn it back on. It will go right back to where you were. There is also a “Recent” games menu that shows screenshots of recently played games at the point when you last close them. Pressing A will jump right back in, while pressing START will start the selected game up from a cold start.
Both my kids are sick. Both have colds. My eldest has a recurrence of pinworm that didn’t show it’s head until 11pm last night and ultimately resulted in me sleeping (badly) on her floor. Then, as we finally pull away from the hovel of disease that is our house, my drivers side front coil spring snaps and hey presto, we no...
During a flight to Canada for a two week holiday (plus 3 day work conference for my wife), our son who was four at the time develops a big old chickenpox blister on his back.
Same. Electrician is here so I’m stuck in the living room with bits and bobs from the bedroom surrounding me. But, it’s sunny. And because of the up and down power today I’ve told my clients I’m offline. And my SO has taken the kids out for the day. So I’m sitting here chilling playing Final Fantasy VI on my little RG35XX portable, without a care in the world. Even the random drilling and banging as power socket holes are made isn’t bothering me. A great day!

So... do anything good at the weekend then?
Or got any plans for the week?...
