What's the strangest research you've done for your writing?
Back when I was drafting Under Leaden Skies, I got hold of some vintage footage of Short Sunderland flying boats on dvd - including some of the IWM released wartime instruction films.
In order to get enough understanding of the aircraft that I could write the fight that happens in the book, I watched & re-watched those films until I could have almost recited the script for "How to Bomb Up a Sunderland." 😆
Very much enjoying the latest book from @ScribblingSandy - and really hoping that the mention of a dodgy food seller named Dibblinius is the nod to another favourite author that I think it is 😁
My husband is far too clever. Tomorrow is our 20th wedding anniversary, which is apparently "china". So he's bought me a book of Chinese folk tales & some posh tea imported from China.
I, meanwhile, have been my usual self & not even thought about gifts, though I did buy myself a mini chainsaw & some new loppers for the garden 😆
& it's all thanks to @Mollysdailykiss & #KinkOfTheWeek which is currently "Necks" & so of course got me thinking of cravats &... well, go read the story!
There is a very specific subset of "someone being wrong on the internet" which will pretty much always get me frowning & digging about for evidence to back up my response - and that is "someone conflating 'England' with 'Britain' or 'the UK'."
I do usually scan through the replies first though, to check if someone else has already pulled them up on it 😆
On the very slim off-chance this might be seen by someone who knows someone..
Anyone have any clue how to get in touch with a support team at Facebook? One of my colleagues had their personal account hacked & the intruder got from there to the business account for the company FB page & has downgraded everyone else's permissions so we can't get rid of them ourselves.
Boosts very welcome! We've spent all morning combing through help menus 😬
Lots of people have given very sensible answers to this already today, so instead of answering properly I'm going to share with you a secret of how to make me stop scrolling / walking & read the blurb of your book:
have either a cowboy hat or an aeroplane on the cover
I mean, don't do either if it doesn't fit with your story, but - well, it amuses me that I'm so predictable when it comes to pretties.

What characters in your story are obstacles but not antagonists?
As per usual, I don't have antagonists.
There is a definite villain in the series: the older Duke of Harford (he dies partway through the series). He's got no redeeming features: wealthy, powerful, entitled, & an out & out bully of the worst kind.
Molly is an obstacle to Joshua & Jacob finding happiness together, but if Jacob had spoken up instead of just leaving, they might have found a different path.
Love how the number of trees we planted in our garden means we can now go sit outside in the sunshine without actually having to deal with direct sunlight.
Husband is going to Germany for work in a few weeks' time. Today when I got home he let me know he might need to stay over for a weekend in Köln (though not working on the weekend).
Half an hour later let him know that I could get to Köln on the train around midday on the Saturday & would need to leave on the Sunday afternoon to get back Sunday evening & be back at work again on Monday...
Can't do it by plane, which shows that trains rule 😁

Do you prefer to write on a desktop, laptop, typewriter, pen & paper, quill & parchment, blood & stone?
I often write using one or other of my laptops. Writing on them would be kind of pointless - although they do have touchscreens so I guess maybe I could? Not that the handwriting recognition can usually keep up with my scrawl though 😕
Recently I've been using a notebook from an Eroticon goody bag for 1st drafts of short stories, then typing up to edit...
Yesterday we did Christmas shopping.
Today I wrapped up all the presents we've bought so far.
Then I did the traditional annual message to younger brother-in-law to check he's not moved house without telling us...

What's the best writing advice you've heard or read?
More a reminder than advice, my @girlonthenet mug stops me falling too far into the doldrums of "Why am I bothering? Other people write so much better than me!"
The mug I'm drinking from right now, otoh, states "Another day, another dildo" which is a reminder that most of the time we just need to put one foot in front of the other even if it all feels rather samey...
RascalCat appears to have a new method of persuading humans to open doors for him: he waited for me to go near the door, then stood on my foot until I opened it!
Rascal is not overall a very heavy cat, but he has a way of standing on people that makes all his weight concentrate in the pressure of just one paw...
Going through some old notebooks prior to recycling them, I came across the following gem of an opening line:
"Toby blushed easily. It was the trait he most deplored in himself."
I have no idea what the rest of the story was supposed to have been, so if you fancy it please feel free to liberate poor Toby from wherever he's languishing, embarrassed by his blush...
