So I just had a transphobe try to piggy-back off a recent popular post I made, presumably to gain reach. i have a decent following here on fedi, but am a micro instance. They too were a micro instance. By default, people on micro instances are not easily discoverable other than by interaction, so if you have a following on one, it’s generally because you’ve built it “organically”, as it were.

They presumably thought that by posting transphobic rage bait in response to me, they could get me to reply, and my reply would federate to my followers, and then they’’d be seen.

Instead I just instantly defederated their server with no response.

They are howling into the void, and nobody is there to hear.

This is not Twitter. Just because someone replies to your thread doesn’t mean the rest of the word will see it. This is the achillies heal of bigots here. Most big instances will moderate them into oblivion, so they start micro instances, but unless people actually like what you’re saying, and interact, you simply won’t federate.

And they won’t even know I made this post now. LMAO! LOL!

@siracusa Having listened to your episode about getting a colonoscopy, it turns out that I was told I should get one (by a doctor, of course). I’m 58 and had never had one. I feel that you could have mentioned a couple of unpleasant things before and after. The preparation was a strain. I got so many laxatives, and they did their job. And afterwards, my poor insides had been filled with air (better to take photos) and that had to come out on its own later. But your experiences helped! Thanks :)

@marcoarment You have probably been told this a thousand times already (hi!), but the printer end of the PC-to-printer cable was a Centronics-36 cable. Not the 50-pin variant that was used by SCSI (pronounced "skizzy" - ask @lexfri), but the 36-pin variant.

@helvetica I’m seeing a nasty bug that renders KnotWords unplayable today. Looks like I’m losing my 370-400 day streaks. Could be iOS 17 beta related, but it’s curious that it starts today, the first of July (start of Q3, H2). I can send screenshots if that would help

@jsnell I just noticed (eight months on) that the TeeVee podcast stalled in November, and hadn’t heard a Muppets In Space episode for that long. Is it “on hiatus”? “Living on a farm”? Or has it done a “Hello Internet” on us? Sorry to bother you with such stuff, but I do miss it

Good to see Ice Nine is still there. As a youngster, it used to puzzle me as to why someone would name a shop for something so deadly. But now I get that it’s just a cool reference.

@gruber Your oldest bar is from 1860? I keep forgetting how new everything is over there. When I lived in Nottingham, I used to go to one of the pubs that claims to be the oldest in England - Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem (“The Trip” to its friends), so called because it was an inn during the Crusades in the 12th century. And down the road from there is Ye Olde Salutation Inn (“The Sal”), which dates from the 1400s. There is a bit of a rivalry between the two establishments.

@hotdogsladies You mentioned that you had a CAT scan with marker? I had one of those a few years ago (cancer or kidney stones, one of the two - I had both).

They asked me AT LEAST seven times if I was even slightly allergic to seafood. I asked why, and they said that if I was then the marker could kill me.

@TechConnectify Just watched your video on brake lights on EVs, and I just thought I would jump in to say that my car (Ora Good Cat by GWM - a Chinese manufacturer) puts the brake lights on whenever the regenerative braking is active. This means that if I take my foot off the accelerator (it's not a "throttle" any more), the brake lights come on. It just feels much safer to have the brake lights come on when the car is slowing down
