musicians - if you have a track from Fedivision (any year) that's on SoundCloud, let me know and I'll add it to this playlist here: https://soundcloud.com/user-96081182/sets/fedivision

.. I've just rediscovered @herr_irrtum 's wonderful track "The Cat" from last year and added that, along with a couple of others I found but it's looking quite sparse at the moment!

See a thing saying "we need 70% less developers when we use AI" and grind teeth while muttering "fewer. 70% fewer developers.." <shakes fist at sky>

What do you actually think of the academy around these AI? When I was digging up that Stanford paper the other day, wading through the oceans of about 95% Why Not Fund Our Hot New LLM Usage Framework : 5% Everyone This Might Be A Problem Actually articles I was kinda curious what your wisdom was. Beyond what you just said.

@louis by the way, I had kept thinking about what you said about writing extremely ANSI C.

I argue this is a mistake, which amounts to trying to concurrently develop for every available platform at once (by imposing a set of restrictions they all are hoped to want to meet). In fact, I think you should develop specifically for your development environment, and packagers (not you) from particular operating systems and distributions should be the ones to patch and package it for themselves.

screwtape,
@screwtape@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@louis as a lisp example, originally I set about to port my game jam game to clisp. One imagines bordeaux-threads has a working version on clisp, but it sure wasn't the version I was using with ecl and sbcl. And my asdf build was basically the sbcl idiom. In principle it wouldn't be hard to port, but pre-doing that job and also being the developer of the software is weird, to alien environments we're not packagers for particularly.

It is a joke, obviously debian is a great linux distribution, but yes my joke is that Microsoft will have Windows linux and IBM will have systemd linux (and Google has Android linux).

tl;dr people are already doing well by breaking out of the sameyness with power tools and cultural memory. On the other hand, it must be hard to break into the crowds of The Exact Same People Doing The Exact Same Thing With The Exact Same Engine Demo Examples. Maybe just don't worry about it. I kinda regret writing this.

screwtape,
@screwtape@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@amoroso I think you're right. I was projecting criticisms that certain things were not specifically appealling to me onto a lot of people, which I do regret.

On the other hand, I think historically informed lisp like yours and our friends have worlds to offer the itch people so I can atone

Everyone there desperately wants to make games the best and most powerful way they know how. Lisp has been working on specific-purpose-complete-programming-systems for 70 years.

I'm trying to create an user interface where the user should be able to edit a list, including the adding, removing and ordering of items.

Unfortunately, with the ordering requirement, I'm a bit stuck - how is it usually solved in Emacs?
