Since @shiftphones STILL hasn't responded to my easy questions https://todon.eu/@b9AcE/111782378386302337 even though I also e-mailed them asking them to over a week ago and they responded this past Thursday saying they would do that, I keep being forced to recommend "Samsung, even though they're not good anymore, just because all others are worse, unless you can wait until those questions are answered" and yesterday the fourth person, dad, had to go buy a Samsung Galaxy S24 (regular) based on my recommendation... again.

The new-phone setup-process on the S24 is tragicomic really, as it was basically over an hour of me going through settings for dad responding that I should turn everything "off, off, no, remove, off, no, no, remove, off", etc.
Is it really that difficult to make a durable phone without all that crapware, spying and unrequested obstructive automation? It obviously WAS possible, in the 00s, but then apparently all current manufacturers decided to ignore the very common and quite loud market-demand to stop filling our phones with poop which we must scoop out or bathe in for the duration of us using them.
They could at least have like, a first question to the entire process "Hi, do you want us to turn on all the fancy stuff, or keep it off until you choose to activate some feature individually?".

Das SHIFTphone 8 erhält damit 12 GB Arbeitsspeicher, statt der angekündigten 8 GB. Für uns bedeutet dies allerdings auch, dass wir den finalen Preis des SHIFTphone 8 (ursprünglich 555 EUR) um 22 EUR – also auf 577 EUR zzgl. Gerätepfand – anheben müssen. Alle bis gestern eingetroffenen Vorbestellungen profitieren natürlich ohne Preiserhöhung von den 12 GB RAM.
