ssm,

What you are referring to as Red Hat is in fact IBM/Red Hat, or as I’ve recently come to calling it, IBM + Red Hat

ssm,

self host on an obscure vps, I recommend buyvm

ssm,

That’s true, though you can at least make sure the ISP that examines your data is in a country that doesn’t care about these things as much, like Portugal. You can do similar with a mainstream VPN, but then you’re sending your data to an IP your local ISP & law enforcement is more likely to be suspicious of.

ssm,

lemmy.world is trash, it’s brought in and hosts the worst parts of reddit I was hoping to avoid by moving to lemmy. Wish I could just block that whole instance.

ssm,

defederate from lemmygrad next please 💓 💕 💖 💗 💞

ssm,

I will not touch it unless the bootloader is unlocked. Biggest appeal for me about the Steam Deck is that it runs Linux.

ssm,

PostmarketOS with phosh (sxmo is good too, no native dvorak support though ;_;) on my pinephone. Found it was the most usable out of Plasma Mobile, Ubuntu Touch, and Mobian.

You can't uninstall this software without being forced to participate in their survey (lemmy.world)

I initially only installed “Comodo Firewall” but for some reason they also installed a “Comodo Dragon Browser”, which I did not consent to. I always choose the “advanced” installation to uncheck bloatware, but in this case there was none and when you try to uninstall the browser, they force you to participate in...

ssm,

I wouldn’t trust that uninstaller to actually uninstall any of the malware that “firewall” installed. Purge the program directories manually.

ssm,

Permissive licenses don’t give power to corporations. It may increase corporate adoption (aka more open standards), but it doesn’t cause the corporation to own the codebase or replace the developers working on the project. If this was true, BSD and co would have been annihilated years ago. What we actually see is GPL ecosystems like Redhat and Linux (Android) being swallowed by corporate interest despite the license, because the GPL doesn’t protect your project leadership from becoming corrupt.

ssm,

I have that domain blocked. Can someone give the context?

ssm,

Why the hell do we need to wait for 2027 for this? Perfect amount of time for something like this to get overturned at the last minute.

Gaming hot takes?

Any weird/controversial opinions? I’ll start. Before the remake, the best version of Resident Evil 4 was the Wii version. The Wiimote controls old Resi’s tank controls better than any other controller at the time. The PC version had a bunch of little bugs and detractors that the Wii version just doesn’t have....

ssm,

Bethesda lost their touch after Morrowind. I loved Oblivion when I played it as a kid, but looking back at it now, I can’t really say I’d ever want to play it again. Fallout 4 and 76 completely strayed from the the previous games in the franchise, only sharing similarity in the artstyle. Fallout 3’s writing and gameplay pales in comparison to New Vegas. Skyrim is just boring, writing feels uninspired, if not non-existent for large portions of the game. Morrowind is the only game that stands out from the rest, and I consider it a masterpiece, and I can see myself playing it again many times, exploring the different houses and guilds.

ssm,

Where does OpenBSD fall on the OS elitism hierarchy

ssm,

The arrogance. Already see a lot of it here, unfortunately.

ssm,

Arch Linux. Took me 9 days and several reinstalls to get to a working window manager.
