strangerloop,

Have you considered he might just have a non-standard gender expression? It doesn’t say anything about his gender identity. And even if he someday determines he’s not a boy, he might be non binary or agender or genderfluid or any number of other things.

Just apologize for pressuring him, let him figure himself out in his own time.

strangerloop,

Thank for sharing your poem, it put a smile on my face :)

strangerloop,

Tidal’s pretty good, they cost the same as spotify but all accounts have access to lossless. The playlists it makes for me are no worse than spotify’s and I can sleep happy knowing the artists I listen to get compensated better than on either Spotify or Apple Music.

I also feel the app’s design helps me see music in the context of the album it was released in instead of as random tracks, which has made me reconnect with some kinds of music I’d grown apart from after I got Spotify.

Warner Bros. Discovery Sees Earnings Hit From Strikes Of Up To $500 Million This Year (deadline.com)

The financial impact of ongoing actors and writers strikes has a number on it now, or one at least, as Warner Bros. Discovery said today it’s looking at a hit of $300 million to $500 million in adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) for 2023 due to the work stoppages....

strangerloop,

Music to my ears. Can’t believe how badly creatives are paid in the US, especially given how important they are for the country’s soft power.

strangerloop,

It’s happened to me before, but I would just pluck the feathers. Can’t waste meat like that. As annoying as it might be to hear, do remember those chickens were alive before.

Italy begins stripping lesbian mothers of their parental rights (www.lgbtqnation.com)

While same-sex civil unions have been legal in the country since 2016, same-sex couples do not have the right to adopt, thanks in part to opposition from the Catholic Church. Surrogacy remains illegal in Italy and there are restrictions that prevent the adoption of “stepchildren” by one parent. Medically assisted...

strangerloop, (edited )

Putting aside the bitter feelings this makes me feel, this is horrible news. From my experience in my own country, voting as a minority & leftist person feels like fighting the waves these last years… I just keep thinking about when things will take a similar turn to Italy’s in other countries too, because it seems like only a matter of time.

strangerloop,

You’re right, I’ll be removing the meme. It was in poor taste.

I chose to post it because of my personal frustration with the turn politics are taking both in my southern European country and in Europe overall.

I come from Greece and in our last elections we had a historically low voter turnout, with mostly conservative and far-right voters showing up. Which lead to a very fascist parliament. And then everyone was surprised with the results, which made me feel “well what were we all expecting when we didn’t even show up to vote?”.

But I don’t really know how the elections went in Italy, so my comment was indeed misplaced.

During travel, what can I prepare beforehand as meal, which can be eaten without access to fire or microwave?

I’m going from Hong Kong to Iceland next month. I’ve read that everything there, including food, are quite expensive. So my wife and I have been researching on how to prepare meal or snack that we can eat during the day instead of going to restaurant....

strangerloop,

One of my favorite snacks to eat on daytrips are hardboiled eggs. You could bring chili/spice mix packets with you to add flavor on the road (I like buying some labeled as “hot pot mate” from my local chinese market). Not much of a meal by themselves of course, but can be a very filling supplement to something like a sandwich or a salad. Good as in between snacks too.

You've just made four hard boiled eggs in a small pot

You dumped out the water ten minutes ago. The pot is cooled off, and empty. It only had whole eggs in it, still in the shells. Now tell me, do you wash that pot? Get out the sponge and the soap and scrub it like usual? Or do you give it a quick rinse and slam it in the drying rack? No judgement here, only curiosity.

strangerloop,

Boiled water leaves a residue on the pot, so I always end up halfheartedly washing it

strangerloop,

I was wondering the exact same thing a few days ago and spent some amount of time googling it.

There’s already such a project actually, called Swanye. There seems to be a single person working on it, so if anyone has time to help I’m sure it will be appreciated

strangerloop,

Seeing as we just voted in three fascist parties to our parliament, I highly doubt legalisation will happen any time soon. And even if it does, I am sad to say its only purpose will be to throw ash in our eyes so we ignore the much deeper systemic issues in the country, which leave the population starving despite record profits from tourism. Hard to feel any joy about news like this, even though it’d mean I could get married to my partner in our motherland instead of another country.

strangerloop,

here’s a new idea for you: sexist jokes aren’t funny and have never been funny, you’re just an asshole

strangerloop,

Our top 3 are:

  • Fungi, because my s.o really loves mushrooms
  • Shards of Infinity (w/ one expansion), because it's a fun game to relax, not to easy and not too complex
  • Jaipur, because it's quick and it's fun trying to screw each other over
damon, to fediverse

If anyone has any bandwidth. I would love to get a project going for an encrypted fediverse alternative to Discord. Thoughts?

strangerloop,

I mean, there's already Matrix to fill this niche, and iirc the accompanying Element app is pretty nice too

strangerloop,

This sounds pretty interesting! Does anyone know if it'll be easy to watch for people who haven't seen Adventure Time?

strangerloop,

The podcast If Books Could Kill has a pretty good breakdown of all the bullshit in this book too

strangerloop,

Glad you liked it, it has offered me many hoursodf fun listening :) If you like Michael Hobbs, one of the two presenters, he has another podcast too, Maintenance Phase. It's very different thematically though, it's about nutrition and our bad understanding of how our bodies work when it comes to weight. Lots of interesting myth busting there too.

What do you like to use as background noise when you crochet?

I'm curious what everyone uses as background noise while crocheting. I've found the only thing I like watching while crocheting is cartoons for some reason, like Bob's Burgers. I know some people watch movies, or listen to audio books but would love to hear some suggestions and get to know everyone.

strangerloop,

I’m new to the hobby, so I’m still trying various things out. Putting on some music is the thing I go back to most often, because I can ignore it and focus on counting stitches when necessary. But right now I’m making a doily and it’s pretty repetitive w/ no counting required, so I’ve been binging on the Witcher while making it (and so I have a good excuse to look away when things get too gory).

strangerloop,

Oh thank goodness, I'm so glad to hear that!

strangerloop,

Yeah... The whole deal with states banning gender affirming care is the perfect breeding ground for scammers. We all need to keep an eye out

strangerloop,

I think my first hunch was when I watched V for Vendetta at age 12 and the sub-story about the lesbian couple really struck a cord in me. At that point I didn't think that I was like them, but at the same time their harsh fate made me really afraid something similar was gonna happen to me. The experience was pretty confusing, and I eventually pushed it out of my mind.

Then I started 7th grade, and I became more confused because my friends were talking about cute guys and I did not get what the fuss was about. The final realisation came when I started 8th grade, so around when I was 14, because I developed a massive crush on my best friend at the time. Nothing came of it, but after that I knew I was definitely attracted to girls and not guys.

Around 16 I started realising my gender identity wasn't cis either, but I only cleared up that conundrum last year at 25. After many conversations with my partner, I came to accept that I'm agender.

It's all been quite the journey and I think I may still change along the way.
