sussy_gussy,

They will very soon have the largest userbase of any instance. If your instance gets blocked by Meta, your users suddenly have a fraction of the reach because no Meta people can see your posts anymore. That would put a lot of pressure on admins I imagine.

ActivityPub platforms are very different

I've been on the Mastodon for a few years now and while I knew other services existed on ActivityPub, I rarely used them and I didn't have an account on any of them until now because I thought the content would be the same because they're all federated. You can view a Lemmy post just as well on Mastodon. Now I'm finally trying...

sussy_gussy,

They like the position of power over other users and it's worth more to them than being treated well by the platform.

sussy_gussy,

Yes, that's what happened with Mastodon too

sussy_gussy,

I can't. It looks like my instance isn't federated with kbin.social or something.

sussy_gussy,

I never knew that it was expensive for them to do so. I always assumed that it was done automatically and that they made it slow because they don't like that you know what info they collect about you.

sussy_gussy,

You can hold it in for a while and if you eat less food but with more energy per volume, you can eat less -> poop less and still get enough energy.

sussy_gussy,

Yes, that's my reason for still having it too. All my friends are on there. And getting them to change platform is almost as hard as getting a woman to like you.

sussy_gussy,

It's just their excuse to make you use their shitty app

sussy_gussy,

I could be wrong but I think Paper.wf is only intended to write stuff on and you need to promote your blog via other socials. Then, people can follow your blog via things like Lemmy, Mastodon or other Fediverse platforms. Commenting would also be done via other fediverse platforms I imagine.

sussy_gussy,

What fascinates me is that there must be some people that are interested in what dress a celebrity is wearing, cause otherwise they wouldn't still be writing articles about it.

sussy_gussy,

Google page cache is your friend and if that doesn't workWayback machine

For everyone new to Lemmy, how are you finding the experience?

I wanted to get a pulse check on how new members are finding the general experience/website. Is it more confusing than Reddit or are you finding the instance system a better way of doing things as it can give you more freedom of where you choose to create an account?...

sussy_gussy,

I'm having a great time. Lemmy is a little bit harder than Reddit but I have been on Mastodon for some time now so I know how federation works. The only thing about Lemmy I don't like is that it feels kinda buggy and unpolished as it is very early stage and the same posts often reappear. But I like the community and it actually seems to be working so that's pretty cool!
