sylverstream,

First time in many years we celebrated NY eve at friends. We had a very good time.

sylverstream,

Those graveyards were for failed startups around ride sharing / rentals.

sylverstream,

How old are the devices? I’ve had routers in the past that after a couple of years just gave up. They were cheapish though.

sylverstream,

Ubiquity should be fine yes. I’m running one AP in our living room and it’s been awesome.

Guess you tried the obvious, like changing channel and restarting it. Sorry no experience with mesh networking except zigbee which is a different topic.

sylverstream,

Probably dead battery. The battery indicator in HA is useless, some of mine goes from 90% to dead.

I’ve stopped trying to re-pair missing Zigbee devices, it usually fixes itself over time. Otherwise restarting HA works.

sylverstream,

Ive had one last only 4 months on a proper Panasonic battery. Also depends on the battery, Eg if it came with a battery it’s probably low quality.

Pbtech is cheapest for those batteries.

sylverstream,

Yep I’ve got those. Great pricing.

sylverstream,

Got sunburned today, first time in ten years or so! Went to the beach, put on sunscreen twice even though it started cloudy, but still not enough. All of the family has some red spots.

Usually we’re very adament about sunscreen, guess we got a bit too relaxed today.

sylverstream,

Thanks, but that’s not the case here. We have always had Nivea. Never issues before. It was cloudy to start, so we only reapplied after 3 hours, and then we stayed for another 3 hours. Should have reapplied twice. We usually don’t stay so long at the beach.

sylverstream,

Sorry to hear about your melanoma, hope all is well!

I’ve tried to look up cancer society approved brands, but couldn’t find it. I did find this article where Cancer Society didn’t meet their spf rating according to consumer NZ, and Nivea did rnz.co.nz/…/nine-sunscreen-brands-fail-protection…So not sure what to believe. I had a look at the consumer NZ database, which has more than 100 products, but no Nivea.

Thanks for reminding me to look after our skin. It was just an error on our part I believe.

Newbie tech (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

This is probably a ridiculous question, but I usually stream from my laptop to my LG tv or my phone to any other tv, and I find that using my VPN keeps the casting output option from working. Like in Popcorntime, the Watch Now doesn’t show my tv, only the laptop app or VLC. On my daughter’s fire stick I can’t even cast to...

sylverstream,

Why not use Stremio with Realdebrid, then you don’t need a vpn :)

sylverstream,

Via RD it won’t use torrents. It will download it directly from their servers. RD isn’t free though, couple of euros per month.

sylverstream,

I feel you, you’re not alone. I guess it’s the festive season. I quit 6 years or so ago but still miss it sometimes. The scary thing is that I took a sip of a new alcohol drink of my spouse and immediately felt all the urges and triggers to drink more and more. Just a sip and it was back much stronger than it was ever before. Super scary stuff.

Iwndwyt.

sylverstream,

It is dangerous. One thing I remember from sd on Reddit is the various posts of people that moderation didn’t work. Never seen a post of someone where it had worked out.

sylverstream,

Almost finished Dead Space (remake). What a game, wow. GOTY for me. Kept me hooked, doesn’t happen often.

sylverstream,

That looked awesome until I saw the prices. $162 is a bit too much for this… Thanks anyway.

sylverstream,

Aliexpress sells USB powered ones for $10 incl shipping :)

sylverstream,

Interesting, hadn’t thought to keep the batteries in the device. It currently works okayish on 4 rechargeable but not ideal. Not sure how to cram the 5th one.

Was thinking to put the battery backup outside.

I see usb powered aa battery replacements on Aliexpress for cheap. With an ups with usb out I should be covered :)

sylverstream,

I was thinking this usb powered battery replacement which has a 6v option. a.aliexpress.com/_m030556

There’s no motor, just a click system to unlock / lock the flap. And easiest would be to plug it into a power bank which is also charged at the same time by 220v.
