sylverstream,

Good news about 0.19! I read that it’s more resource intensive somewhere, not sure if it’s true.

sylverstream,

Why are some people on campgrounds so inconsiderate? Earlier this week a grandma, mother and child still noisy after 10pm. Kids trying to sleep, so tried to ask politely to be a bit quieter. They inmediately interjected, going full in the defense. This morning, from 5am a woman was talking super loud and fighting with her partner. Later in the morning again super loud to call her child etc.

For the rest it’s awesome here.

How to find a cheap ex company PC based on which Intel generation?

I’d like to buy an ex company PC to serve as home server, as an upgrade for my raspberry pi. It should run some selfhosted services like Frigate and Immich, and perhaps Jellyfin. I was thinking to buy an 9th gen Intel or later ex company PC. It should be energy efficient as well....

sylverstream,

Ahh sorry, should have found that myself (I use Kagi, liking it more than DDG).

NUC sounds good too, a friend of mine had one too.

Thanks for your reply!

sylverstream,

Thanks, it has a couple of back to school offers indeed. Will check them out.

sylverstream,

Thanks, didn’t know vPro. Was planning to run Linux on it and access it via Putty, similar to my rpi. Perhaps I’ll run Windows on it but with the way MS goes with Windows I’m less inclined to do so. Linux seems a better choice to me.

Will look into vPro, looks cool.

sylverstream,

Thanks for your detailed response! Think just an ex lease pc is sufficient for now, but will keep the ServeTheHome in mind.

sylverstream,

Thanks! So I’m new to multi nodes self hosting stuff, so far have used a Rpi for everything. With that configuration, can you run everything? Most of the things I want to run are dockerized, but eg pi hole had to be installed directly. Most important is better performance for Frigate (web cam monitoring) and immich (photo and video management).

sylverstream,

Yeah that’s probably the easiest, just set it up as second server. Thanks again.

sylverstream,

First time we played Pandemic we thought we had to cure all diseases, turns out you only need to find the four antidotes. Then it became a lot easier.

And, yes, I also noticed it becomes more quiet here. I’m still casually browsing Reddit and it’s still as active as it was before all the protests. I hate the app and website though, I miss Baconreader. It seems more negative though.

I really enjoyed Dead Space! I'm usually not a big horror game fan. Graphically it looks awesome and the gameplay is great.

I never played the original, but as it’s on Gamepass via EA play decided to give it a go. It got me hooked immediately and found it hard to put down. Never got boring. It was too difficult for me on normal, easy was better for me. Hopefully they will remake 2 and 3 as well. I enjoy good graphics so not sure I enjoy the...

sylverstream,

Would be good if they found a cure. One of my biggest fears is catching it. First time covid it took me a month to recover and it was by far the worst I’ve ever felt.

sylverstream,

The first article is specifically about Tesla which is a reason I don’t recommend them. The second article is not specific to EVs, it talks about all modern cars. Build quality non existent? Have you tried an EV yourself? I drive a 2016 Leaf and it feels better built than ICEs from that time.

sylverstream,

It’s also a downside. Now we have bought a Leaf I never want to buy an ICE again. But here in NZ there aren’t many second hand options for a reasonable price. Luckily prices are dropping.

sylverstream,

2 January is almost over here in NZ. I had a zero alcohol beer for dinner. It was nice. Iwndwyt.

sylverstream,

Thanks for your reply! Yes, work culture is another thing. I was so stressed back in NL, literally counting down hours before the next holiday. Sure there is stress here but not at the same level.

sylverstream,

Well done, that must be tough! Virtual t shirt for you :)

sylverstream,

Congrats, well done, massive achievement!

sylverstream,

Good to hear they treated you well and didn’t push you. And yep I get you, why stop after a bottle? The whole idea of NY for me used to be that there were no limits, I could drink continuously as long as I wanted. NY day, I could drink at breakfast, to get rid of the hangover, and continue the drinking.

But most people can drink normally and stop when they want. We’re not like them. Sorry.

sylverstream,

Welcome to Lemmy! Great to have you here. How do you access Lemmy? Via the browser or an app?

There are 4 top level comments, some of them have replies which appear under the top level comments like a tree view. They may be collapsed by default, that’s why you may not see them.

sylverstream,

I use the app Liftoff. I don’t know Memmy, sorry. Just try a couple and pick one you like :) lots of options.

sylverstream,

Hmm good point. We just try to avoid non rechargable batteries. Will give it a try. Thanks.
