theherk,

Great reference. Great username. You’re going places.

theherk,

One of the many things that suck about these situations is that the money comes from the community, so they get the worst outcomes on both sides no matter what.

theherk,

Well that’s true in many cases, and may well be in this case. In some though, the city is self insured, in which case it comes from a fund set aside by the city. In others, if not covered by insurance, it can come from the coffers directly. So directly or indirectly - immediately or paid over time, it still comes from the community.

theherk,

I don’t know the actual demographics, but I can say one sees a lot of Palestinian support in the streets. Many demonstrations and such. But I think the issue has gone well past the former xenophobic line. Seems to me many people I would have otherwise expected to be opposed to antizionists are still like, “maybe genociding children isn’t the right thing to do.”

theherk,

I get this position, truly, but I struggle to reconcile it with the feeling that artwork of something and photos of it aren’t equal. In a binary way they are, but with more precision they’re pretty far apart. But I’m not arguing against it, I’m just not super clear how I feel about it yet.

theherk,

Like with everything, context matters. Sometimes it can indicate poorly structured control flow, other times inefficient loop nesting. But many times it is just somebody’s preference for guard clauses. As long as the intent is clear, there are no efficiency problems, and it is possible to reach the fewest branches necessary, I see no issues.

Dell responds to return-to-office resistance with VPN, badge tracking, and color-coding of employees (arstechnica.com)

After reversing its position on remote work, Dell is reportedly implementing new tracking techniques on May 13 to ensure its workers are following the company’s return-to-office (RTO) policy, The Register reported today, citing anonymous sources....

theherk,

Maybe but I don’t think that is well tested legally yet. For instance, I’ve learned things from there, but when I share some knowledge I don’t attribute it to all the underlying sources of my knowledge. If, on the other hand, I shared a quote or copypasta from there I’d be compelled to do so I suppose.

I’m just not sure how neural networks will be treated in this regard. I assume they’ll conveniently claim that they can’t tie answers directly to underpinning training data.

theherk,

I’m an Eagle and an atheist. I don’t remember being required to confirm a belief. But even though I was part of an organization in a very small very religious town, nobody seemed to care.

theherk,

I get the sentiment, but that implies nothing good is being made. And even if the sentiment “nothing good is being pushed” were true, that wouldn’t be that same as not being made. Still tons of artists out there putting work in.

theherk,

“Get well” is completely different than the other two. It is rarely if ever used as an imperative. It is more like “(I hope you) get well”. Well wishes are good.

theherk,

Close to 40 million Hispanics of Mexican descent live in the USA. You don’t think there is good Mexican cuisine there? Because in my experience, anywhere I find Mexicans, I find some damned good vittles.

theherk,

Why do you assume that? Why would it not make sense to mean Mexican food when saying Mexican food.

theherk,

Norwegian Smash. It is like Bugles covered in extremely good salty chocolate.

theherk,

I read this whole comment thread but somehow missed that one? What prompted this?

theherk,

Probably, but I can’t help but feel you are what you accuse here, leveling an accusation at a target which doesn’t exist yet.

theherk,

Fuck Boeing, but your comment was still a nonsense hammer in search of a nail, and what you said would come never came.

theherk,

I reread all the comments. Please link to the specific one.

theherk,

I actually did reread them, and I don’t believe I’m trolling. I am genuinely curious if you believe a comment here did as you claimed and if so which one? Please be specific.

theherk,

Then they are mistaken, and I am a caring companion letting them know they should reevaluate their assessment and maybe see somebody. It really undercuts the message of the trans community to imply that identify ones gender is the same as stating something categorically false.

Self identity doesn’t make truth, it only asserts it.

theherk,

Absolutely taking the opposite of my meaning. It seems to me you are saying a claim of one’s gender and a claim of one being a season are the same? Please state yes or no if you believe that to be true. If yes, I believe this is the scummy position with which I take issue. If no, then you have simply missed the precise point I’m making. That they aren’t the same. For one is a statement of the fact of one’s gender, and the other a false statement.

That is why somebody should care if somebody were to state, even if in earnest that they are a season or helicopter or similar. Because in the best case they are mistaken and in the worst case making a mockery of gender identity which I fear, though am not certain, you are doing here.

theherk,

Periodically a conversation ends with my confidence that I agree with a person but a difference in perspective makes that unclear.
