I was trying to install a repack of The Sims 3 with all of the expansions, full size about 31 GB, onto a drive that had about 300 GB of free space. Left it running overnight, woke up to my computer completely locked up because the repack had filled every single bit on my SSD....
What do you do when the check is not there for some games? Is there an alternative because the bug you’re describing is a thing I’ve been dealing with on many occasions
I tried it but it was too much for me. It’s not my thing, but it’s a very interesting and very cool project and I have nothing but respect towards the Bedrock Linux team for what they have achieved.
Ouch. Too relatable. Far too relatable. At first, it was Arch, until I found out about NixOS. Then, it was NixOS until I was having issues related to the immutability aspect of it. Then, I was going back and forth between them, neither being perfect. Later, I found Tumbleweed but that wasn’t even close to what I needed. It was Fedora, with a bunch of Copr Repos, that I’ve been on for 2 months now, that made me stop hopping as it really had it all. But I read an article about Void about a week ago, and it’s now weighing on my mind. Will the sacrifices involved with running Void, be matched by the advantages of it? I’m honestly not sure.
I always wanted a file sync solution, but I used to think of it as a server for me to host, so it was always just a dream… until I saw some creators I follow make videos about it and decided to give it a shot! It also made possible some amazing things, like having anything related to my Music directory all synced up so I don’t have to use a USB cable to sync it all, all the time.
Edit: I was also considering creating an actual file sync server using Syncthing, where everything would be syncdd to the server, essentially creating an easy-to-set-up local cloud!
The distro has been around since 2002, so it’s not that old even though it predates Ubuntu by a couple of years.
I don’t know, to me, a distro that’s nearly 22 years old is pretty old.
I mean, I’d say Arch is an old distro, having started in 2001. I’d also say Ubuntu and Mint are quite old distros at this point, having begun in 2005 and 2006 respectively.
I’d say something like Garuda, which started 4 years ago in 2020 can be considered new.
And second,
There is a mention that donations will now be tax-exempt in the US, as they are in the EU, but what about other nations, specifically the UK?
I’m curious how software can be created and evolve over time. I’m afraid that at some point, we’ll realize there are issues with the software we’re using that can only be remedied by massive changes or a complete rewrite....
The only thing I personally dislike about systemd is the “waiting for service to stop 5mins/1h30mins” stuff during shutdowns and reboots. I know I can limit them to 10s or something but how about just making systemd force-stop these services like, say, runit.
When I’m using my bemenu script to shutdown and feel like a hackerman, don’t take that way from me by being an annoyance, systemd!!!
Edit: Yes, I’m considering switching to Void, how could you tell?
Great. I was perfectly happy with Fedora, and now I have the desire to switch to Void. I’ll have to make sure everything I need is there and if so, I’ll work on making the switch.
I love the fact how all the things they list make sense for security and then there’s just:
A Nautilus extension
Of course, when reading on, the article mentions it’s there for convenience to avoid having to open a terminal, but I still found it really funny when reading the list.
I feel almost obliged to ask, do you work on ItsFOSS, OmgUbuntu or one of the other major Linux publications, as I think I’ve seen your name somewhere?
I’ve had no issues so far. I’ve been running this setup for the last 2 months or so and it’s been solid! I’m running it on a laptop though, so your mileage may vary based on your hardware.
For me, my Dad brought home a laptop from work and we looked up pictures of pokemon and went to the Simpsons website, circa around 1999. How about you?
For me, it was a game called Brick Breaker or something like that. It was a flash game that you can still find on and play using Y8 Browser. I’ll see if I can find and link it here.

I am not an atheist, I genuinely believe that God exists and he is evil, like a toddler who fries little ants with a lens.
