theskyisfalling,

I moved from Mullvad to AirVPN when they made this change and have been pretty happy with it so far tbh, maybe check them out? :)

theskyisfalling,

Meh. Same same but different. I’ve had it for a while now and don’t think it is any better or any worse. The thing I dislike the most is that they moved having a “tray” type pop out menu and now you click more in the bottom right.

That never has and still doesn’t sit right with me. The rest, the information is there it looks OK. It is alright.

theskyisfalling,

This is exactly what came to mind for me too.

Thoughts on van-life skating?

I want to learn to skate and would love to go to lots of skateparks. I have almost no experience with skating and I’m also moving into a van to live in full-time in the near-ish future to travel around Australia, so I’m concerned that when I have injuries from skating I sometimes won’t be able to drive temporarily, which...

theskyisfalling,

I lived in a van full time for over 2 years, I skated, mountain biked, kick boxed among other things and to be honest never even gave a thought to injuries. What was more a day to day concern for me was how sweaty you get during these activities and being able to wash myself as this was not long after covid when I started that life and so gyms with showers n such was not an option.

My opinion of it is that why let the what ifs and this could happens dictate what you do in your life. All those activities have their own dangers associated with them but also the benefits of both fitness and mental well being as well as just pure enjoyment far out weigh the risks in my eyes.

If I got injured then that is something I would deal with as and when it happened. You can negate risk by taking proper precautions and making smart decisions but you could just as easily get hit by a car or something that is out of your control.

So personally I say go for it! I loved being able to wake up next to some trails, have breakfast then go out for a ride. Or wake up next to a beach and go out for a run. I was never thinking about injury. If it happens it happens but don’t let the possibility ruin your enjoyment of life! :D

theskyisfalling,

Believe me I know full well that feeling of not wanting anything to happen when you live in your vehicle and all your possessions are contained within. For me I was more worried about the vehicle itself braking than my body. Whilst I have mechanical knowledge and did carry some tools around with me my first van the engine blew and that was a less than fun situation being stranded and having to essentially leave your home with someone to fix and thus not being able to use your home. It was weird.

You said you are going to be Australia though, on the east coast most places have decently paved stretches along the beaches and the like so use them to get used to just cruising on your board if you have no prior skating experience. There you can get used to the way the board feels and just get comfortable. I did the same, living out of a van on the east coast and I used to cruise all the time as it is a beautiful places to do so and like you say a skateboard doesn’t take up much real estate in a van (unlike my two bikes which was a decision I regret at points xD)

After you are more comfortable you can graduate to trying out more parks or just hit some bowls and learn to carve them a bit. As long as you slowly ramp up with the levels of risk and danger I think you will be alright and you won’t regret getting out there and getting involved.

More than anything have fun :D (I’m fucking jealous xD I miss my van life even with the uncertainty it sometimes bought)

theskyisfalling,

I did the same, beat it on PS3 back in the day and thought it was alright. However I went back to it this year just to play through the single player again as I was craving that kind of gameplay (funnily enough after playing sleeping dogs for the first time). My god is it trash, the single player campaign is the same shit over and over, I couldn’t even finish it this time it was just so fucking boring.

Ive been playing since the first game, remember the insane hype and build up to San Andreas with the welcome to the jungle trailers but 6 I just couldn’t care less about. The franchise is dead to me, everything that made it good is gone, I just wish there was a decent alternative.

What are the most mindblowingly creative, inventive, or otherwise otherworldly albums you know of?

One of my favorite things to do while stoned is listen to albums that are really unique, artful, and/or jam packed with soul and energy, as in that head space music just hits completely differently and it just lends to me finding a deep love and appreciation for the art of music. What’re some of your favorites?

theskyisfalling,

Not really a specific album but check out Lorn in general.

Burial - Untrue

Odesza - Summers Gone

Easy Star All Stars - Dub Side of the Moon

Culprate - Deliverance

Most of these fit into the inventive, otherworldly or both kind of vibe.

theskyisfalling,

Egg!

Egg, oh an egg comes out of a chicken

Egg, oh a chick comes out of an egg

Egg, oh an egg comes out of a chicken

Egg, oh a chick comes out of an egg

Egg, oh an egg comes out of a chicken

Egg, oh a chick comes out of an egg

Egg, oh an egg comes out of a chicken

Egg, oh a chick comes out of an egg

theskyisfalling,

Weigh me down is awesome! I really like 555-5555

theskyisfalling,

Fucking love Alien Ant Farm, this is hands down the worst song that they released and I will always skip this track on an otherwise outstanding album. However it is certainly also the track that catapulted them into the public eye more so, back in the day it was rinsed constantly.

theskyisfalling,

To be honest they are one of the few bands where I really like the majority of their catalogue (ironically their biggest songs, this and movies, I personally think are the worst) so I’d just be posting their back catalogue. I just encourage people to go and listen to their albums.

Also how come you have tagged this as 96? The band formed in 96 and whilst they supposedly did this and other covers when they were coming up and a version of this called “Slick Thief” did appear on their 98 album release this version definitely came out in 01. I’m not too bothered, more curiosity over the choice :p

theskyisfalling,

Fair enough :D

theskyisfalling,

Books-

Lovecraft

Edgar Rice Burroughs

Stephen King

Brandon Sanderson

Scripts-

Meh, I don’t really like films all that much tbh.

theskyisfalling,

In a car, no not really, that is going to make everything in your life a lot harder and less comfortable. I feel like a car would be a last resort, I have no other options, kind of thing.

I lived in a van for just over 2 years though and honestly I miss it. I don’t just miss the extra money I had from not paying rent but I also miss being able to stay where ever I wanted and waking up next to the beach or in a forest.

theskyisfalling,

I use soggfy a lot for Spotify, with a premium account this will rip 320 mp3’s for you however I think that is the best you are able to get out of Spotify. You won’t be able to get any lossless rips from Spotify regardless of which method you use as far as I am aware.

theskyisfalling,

Likewise for me, 320 is enough as I’m not playing my music on a proper sound system or the like. In that case I can recommend soggfy for it’s ease of use as it is just a modified Spotify client, you play the music you want and it intercepts the incoming stream to rip the music. Nice and easy.

I just make playlists and leave it over night to play etc

theskyisfalling,

It’s not just about speed though. Additional power, particularly with hub motors, can help a lot with steep hills or pulling more weight on a cargo bike etc. E-bikes are improving peoples ability to get out there and be independent as well as get some exercise where they may not have been able to in the past due to a number of different factors.

By increasing the power available can help to make the world more accessible to more people. You can still limit the top speed that is achievable on these bikes whilst also making them more usable in more situations.

Higher power motor doesn’t necessarily automatically mean top speed is the sole goal.

theskyisfalling,

Whilst I agree the majority of the people I see riding those horrible Chinese “bikes” or that have put a Chinese kit on their bike are already running 1000w motors that have no restriction and they zip around at 30mph plus. People that want to go fast will do so regardless of the rules behind them. By increasing the allowed max I feel would have more benefits for the kinds of people that will be buying the more expensive, better made bikes and using them within the law.

I think the bigger issue here is that the police need to enforce some kinds of rules relating to the use of ebikes. For the record I actually don’t have any issue with an ebike that will do 30mph as long as it is used sensibly but the problem is that a lot of them aren’t.

The majority of the over powered, fast ebikes I see around near me are used by deliveroo riders and their ilk and all of them ride like absolute cunts. If you are going to use a powerful, motor driven form of transport to facilitate your work, fine, but use it properly on the fucking road and obeying traffic laws. The amount of these cunts I see zipping around on paths and through red lights on their throttle controlled “bikes” is where I think the main safety implications for more powerful motors lie.

People are dangerous enough on non motorised push bikes and being that the future of sustainable smaller distance transport seems to lie within things like ebikes I think there needs to be a push now in the earlier stages to educate people on how to operate them properly and within the rules of the road. Some people need to be made examples of to force the populace to ride in a safe predictable manner on the roads and not on the fucking path.

I think this is also a problem with the rental bike schemes a lot of cities now run too, you put people who aren’t used to operating a bicycle onto one in a city full of people and it is carnage. Riding on footpaths, ignoring road rules and generally just acting unpredictably. I see a lot of very dangerous situations involving these people almost everyday due to lack of personal awareness and ability to control the vehicle they are using.

theskyisfalling,

Freebords, it is kind of like a skateboard that acts more like a snowboard. Waiting for more dry weather to try and learn to use it!

Diablo is dead - I would like to shutter this community.

I played Diablo, Diablo 2, Diablo 3, and Diablo 4, all on their respective launch days. I really enjoyed the first two, and kinda hated the third one until they fixed all the bullshit. However, Diablo 4 was a piece of shit from day one. I enjoyed it for approximately 10.724 days. Rounding up. I’m absolutely done with Blizzard....

theskyisfalling,

Nah, i havent played it.

Oh really? My old keys work!?

I will need to find them and try them!
