@yogthos I love The Onion, and I despise war, but I call bullshit. At a minimum, the US and its allies killed over 221,000 in Iraq and Afghanistan after 9-11. No one called that a genocide. The rhetoric around the Israeli war in Gaza seems to forget the awful nature of October 7th and the fact that the Hamas charter is explicitly a call for the genocide of Israelis.

It’s possible that the only thing that will end Donald Trump’s appeal to his supporters, who see him as a strong man, is for a 13 year old girl to walk up and punch him in the face. He’d crumble like a bag of stale cookies.

The web would be very different (and much better) if all sites were simple, unstyled, semantically structured HTML, without any styling and only enhancements requested by the visitors affected the design. I say this as a graphic designer with 40+ years of experience.

I’d like tv subtitles without sound descriptions. I can hear the sound effects, I can’t understand the dialogue. I don’t need “dramatic music” or “car door shuts”. Which streaming service will figure this out first?

@shac Sound descriptions are important for people that can’t hear. They’re an accessibility benefit, and are required on web video to meet section 508.

It should be everyone's goal in the short term to expose Kennedy as the fraud that he is. He knows he'll never be president, but just wants to make sure that Trump is elected. An odd position seeing that a Trump presidency will decimate the environment, which is what he (supposedly) cares about. But then who knows what is going on in that tiny, tiny, conspiracy-addled brain of his.

As someone who works on large government websites, I think this post by @anildash should be taught in employee orientations. Donald Trump, Sean Hannity, Elon Musk, Charlie Cook, etc. believe that the truth doesn’t matter if the lie is so outrageous that it gets you coverage. People remember the big splashy lie, not the mundane truth.

This has been true forever, see “The ends justify the means” (Machiavelli paraphrase) and “A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes” (Mark Twain), but lies are amplified to a far greater extent than before the internet.
