If I had a two pence piece for every time @andycroll's One Ruby Thing acted as my second brain, I'd be able to spend all day in a Brighton arcade on the 2p machines.

@stevehill @andycroll unless inflation has got to them I thought they were a staple of all UK beach arcades!

Here are three things we did to get more out of @plausible

  • 404 tracking
  • Category tracking
  • External link tracking

All well documented, but not enabled by default, if relevant to your website needs, you could consider adding them!

Almost everyone uses an exception tracker (e.g. Sentry) to track errors in production. These become bug tickets, sometimes even automatically. Bugs get fixed.

Do you have something like this for performance? If you don't, are you wondering why your engineers never fix perf?

tosbourn,
@tosbourn@masto.ai avatar

@nateberkopec ha! I was just tooting in the same vein

Most of our definitions of "bug" are too tech focused and not human focused.

@tosbourn@masto.ai avatar

What are some issues you personally would 100% classify as a bug but others may not?

Off the top of my head;

  • WCAG failures
  • legitimate 404s
  • Poor performance (relative to what you consider "good")
  • Schema / JSONLD errors
tosbourn,
@tosbourn@masto.ai avatar

I'm on the fence, but I could be talked into "deprecations in CI" making the cut

tosbourn,
@tosbourn@masto.ai avatar

@threedaymonk fair! I've edited to say "legitimate 404s"

To your point though, if for some reason people were linking to hire-me-as-a-hitman enough that it was flagging in logs/analytics then a sensible thing would be to redirect to my-opinion-on-hitmen-and-why-i-am-not-one

I've been using Spaced Repetition flashcards for years. Over 2 years ago, I transitioned my SRS system to Obsidian with the plugin featured in this video. It's effective, and I enjoy making flashcards within my research notes. 📚✨

@TfTHacker I’m a big fan of the spaced repetition plugin.

I tend to use :: or ::: and keep things all on one line but I should migrate some to multi line using ?

Ban emoji. I've had enough of them. Does 🫣 mean "I'm embarrassed that I can't remember" or "we have made a bad mistake"? Why the fuck should I have to wonder? Words are already unclear enough without adding silly pictures. We invented writing for a good reason and you people are taking us backwards by millennia.

Heroku now supports HTTP/2

That, err, took a while. I mean I'm excited and I can't imagine the complexities of adding it to something as massive as Heroku, but Salesforce have a lot of money to chuck at stuff if they wanted and stuff like HTTP/2 shouldn't be an announcement in 2024!

@rgarner haha.

Look I'm sure your client has a fantastic sponsored post, but I'm elbow deep in the Fallout Wiki trying to understand how the heck to best equip my settlers.

@rgarner I need to get up close and personal. Always been a shocking aim.

Very spasm-y legs when I went to bed last night, but an ibuprofen and a couple of drops of cannabis oil and I slept right through. Surprising, but most welcome. It bugs me that I can’t get access to this legally without huge expense. It’s a game changer.

tosbourn,
@tosbourn@masto.ai avatar

@swisslet I really need to secure me some cannabis oil for the very odd time I'm convinced it would help.

As you say, very prohibitive at the mo.

tosbourn,
@tosbourn@masto.ai avatar

@swisslet that's incredible.

I haven't needed something like Gabapentin before, but just very occasionally will get symptoms that I know others treat well with cannabis.

What are your thoughts on re-opening old issues vs creating new ones and referencing?

I tend to create new and reference, the old issue was a point in time and team/project context may have changed since.

I was kinda hoping what with it including a country actively involved in genocide that there would be less buzz around online, I’d wrongly assumed folk would boycott it.

I’ve never been interested in it so it’s no skin off my nose to continue to ignore it.

tosbourn,
@tosbourn@masto.ai avatar

@ianRobinson maybe speaks to how it maybe is more low key this year? Which is what I had imagined! I’m getting a fair few posts about it.

Stressful work day ahead. Things I wrote are being remote installed in user premises, and we had to make last-minute changes I'm not entirely convinced about. Fingers crossed.

I visit the Multiple Sclerosis subreddit every so often and it is terrifying how many Americans have stories about their doctors saying things like;

  • research these drugs and pick one
  • we can’t offer this unless insurance
  • try no drugs and we can check in again later

Anything that moves socialised healthcare closer to the US model needs to be set on fire.

The Co-op Live venue debacle sums up so much about corporate greed.

Would it have killed them to wait until the safety checks and infrastructure was finished before booking acts or selling tickets?

I appreciate you don’t book stadium acts on a whim, but you could easily factor in the costs to keep it empty for a month or two before things kick off proper.

The amount of wasted time, money, and stress this will have caused so many people.
