This company is in Madison, Wisconsin... anyone know anything about them?

@rasterweb I was just watching their video this morning! My interest is definitely piqued.

A friend of mine posted about taxing billionaires and one of the comments was like “I’m a small business owner, and I want to grow my business and I can see becoming a billionaire some day.” and the person was serious. Like holy shit, that’s not the typical path to becoming a billionaire. (In fact I have to assume it’s nearly impossible.)

@rasterweb Hear hear. All I want my small business to do is replace my full-time job so I can live comfortably doing my own thing. I hate that most people's idea of success is "more money” instead of “enough money".

Had another, more wide-ranging, demo with Apple Vision Pro today. Ask me anything.

Me, sitting on a couch, wearing an Apple Vision Pro, making a pinch gesture with my right hand.

@gruber Will it work "as expected" if one of your eyes is closed, missing, or otherwise has extremely poor vision?

I've been working on my Bucket List:

☑️ One Gallon Bucket
☑️ Mop Bucket
☑️ Bucket of Chicken
☑️ Five Gallon Bucket
☑️ Bucket Hat
☑️ Excavator Bucket

Any other suggestions?

trestrantham,

@rasterweb You never know when you'll need a tiny bucket

I do sell printed things, but they are just custom enclosures that wrap around the electronic devices and controllers I sell.

Digital fabrication allows for specific customization I cannot really get with other methods without a huge investment, so it works for me.

And I really do want to lower the amount of waste and the impact I have on the planet, so even though I do like 3D printing, I sometimes hate it...

trestrantham,
@trestrantham@mastodon.social avatar

@rasterweb I feel like I’m squarely in the middle of this spectrum. I would love to build my own products to sell that just happen to be 3D printed. But even with only one printer at the moment, I’m already looking into grinders and extruders to recycle printing waste.

trestrantham,
@trestrantham@mastodon.social avatar

@rasterweb I would love to get into metal working over time (especially if this ever grows to more than a side project), but I'm limited to FDM for now. Was your shift to 3D printing more from an increase in material cost or just a change in what you were building?

@trestrantham@mastodon.social avatar

I ended up abandoning unfortunately. After a few days, I couldn’t recreate a component I had made in about 20 mins in so decided not to fight it. 🙃 Maybe I'll give it another shot when I'm not trying to get a product out the door.

@AutisticAdam @actuallyautistic I am very much the same way with receiving gifts. I know I am picky about my "things" and would just rather get the things I need myself. My wife is probably the only person who this isn't an issue with as she knows me so well. But as far as giving gifts, I love to it when I have the energy to really obsess about the perfect gift.

@irenes @AutisticAdam @actuallyautistic This was my superpower as a kid. Always did well with these tests for this very reason.

I have made some progress on my soldering desk Gridfinity setup…

trestrantham,
@trestrantham@mastodon.social avatar

@rasterweb Looking great! 😎

rasterweb, to 3DPrinting
@rasterweb@mastodon.social avatar

The OpenSCAD Gridfinity implementation allows for bolting things together, which is great because I have a pile of #4-40 hardware I’ve never used.

trestrantham,
@trestrantham@mastodon.social avatar

@rasterweb I'm in the process of printing a ton of Gridfinity stuff too. I opted for modifying the OpenSCAD version to embed magnets (and print over) since I will be placing on a metal surface (and because superglue sucks). Snaps into place well and removed the need to use hardware to secure multiple bases together. 🙌

Well this seems like an interesting idea: Gridfinity Frames for Laser Cutters.

@rasterweb I already bought a 3D printer because you keep posting cool stuff. Do I have to get a laser cutter now, too?! 🤦‍♂️

@AutisticAdam @actuallyautistic Totally relate to this! And worse, I tend to just blurt out whatever I wanted to say before the conversation does move on because I may crawl out of my skin if I don’t

Super stoked to have a Bambu P1S on the way after months of deliberation. Will make my product design life so much smoother as I work on bringing my first product to market. 🙏 Thanks to @rasterweb who unwittingly pushed me over the edge after raving about his.

Well, looks like I'll be getting a Bambu Lab P1S printer.

trestrantham,
@trestrantham@mastodon.social avatar

@rasterweb Looking at the same! The new mini looks cool but I think the P1S is the sweet spot.

@ivory I created a couple lists, moved some folks there, and checked don't show in Home when I did. This removed their toots from Home as expected and only showed them in the lists. But I changed my mind and deleted the lists. I expected the folks I had in these lists to reappear in my Home feed but they didn't. How do I get them back?

trestrantham, to random
@trestrantham@mastodon.social avatar

@ivory Is there any way to single click a toot without going to the toot detail view on Ivory for Mac? I used to select tweets in Tweetbot to keep reference of where in the chronological timeline I was if I was going back and forth.
