@jon @mschfr würde es bei einem Kopfbahnhof oder allgemein einem Bahnhof gehen? Da müssen ja alle Züge zum stehen kommen und die Geschwindigkeit ist da ja auch gering. Sofern das Grünzeug diese Bahnhöfe gesünder oder kühler macht, könnte man ja auch über die Kosten hinwegsehen

If only my knowledge of EU law had the desired impact this fast every time 🙂

My father wanted to pay a EDF French electricity bill from a Belgian bank account, and was told that this was not possible because the bank was outside France

I formulated a stern email to EDF for him, in French, stipulating this was not allowed as a reason within the Single European Payment Area (SEPA), and within a few hours they relented in a grovelling email!

2016 and 2022

2022 is fine, but for 2016 I go to my Photos archive on the 5Tb backup hard disk (USB3, but old style HDD)… and it's so damned slow, and I get the wheel of death all the time, and Apple Photos crashes

What should I do? Invest in a 4Tb USB 3 SSD to replace it?

@jon one issue with SSD vs HDD is that SSD is difficult to restore once corrupted (cf. https://pca.st/episode/39259a48-ff43-4a67-8157-13e437b87b5f). The linked episode of chaosradio talks extensively about backups and is quite critical of SSDs.

@jon yeah 2031 would be a problem as far as I know they need to have a line built by 2030 - otherwise EU funding expires. Dunno about other Baltic states but Latvia does not seem to be willing to pour too much of heir own budget into it - understandable partly. Curious what we will hear from other Baltic states. This can turn into an ugly prisoner dilema game where every state drags their feet

Question to :

Going from Madrid to Lisbon clearly seems to require the two changes at Badajoz and Entroncamento, ok. But I cannot figure out whether there is any help with those connections in case of delay - and also whether that connection exists every day throughout the year.

(For a work commitment, I really need to find out whether it is even possible to count on train travel to Lisbon these days or not)

Finde es ganz spannend, wie die aktuelle Studie "Hass im Netz" gerade auch die Thesen ein wenig bestätigen, die @gavinkarlmeier und ich am Montag im @hakendran in den Raum geworfen haben.

Den Rückzug von Menschen, die mangelnde Moderation von Hass im Netz - und wie Meta das mit angeblicher "Entpolitisierung" der Plattformen in den Griff kriegen will, statt in anständige Moderation zu investieren - was im Übrigen auch für jeden gilt, der ein Diskursforum schafft

As well as being plain wrong, this IS NOT A SOLUTION

If there are asylum seekers that are not seeking asylum in Poland and trying to get to Germany, ask why, and seek to solve that

@jon judging from regional demographic statistics (cf. https://www.statistik-berlin-brandenburg.de/publikationen/stat_berichte/2015/SB_A01-08-00_2015u00_BB.pdf p 39) , i would guess that Guben lacks young people. Average age around 50 (landkreis). Over 60% above 45 years (landkreis). the mayor is scoring easy points with the mostly elderly voters. Any ageing community needs young people for cafes, events (city run, festivities etc) and last but not least as nurses. Sadly Germans currently retreat in steoreotypes instead of solving problems

@jon the new station is wow indeed. Sad to hear that there is no electrification. There were always many buses in Haguenau. I remember SNCF trains to Lauterbourg being quite empty near the terminus. German trains were always more frequented. Maybe SNCF should try running its TER at regular time intervals ;)
