Picture of the day: Following up on yesterday's picture of the Jellyfish Nebula, I have a picture of a Lion's Mane Jellyfish. This species can get very large, but this one was small.
The removal of the tomatoes from the greenhouse benches gives us room to get the first planting of sweetcorn (Flagler) started. We put 5 seeds to a pot and 32 pots make a row. Once those are big enough and the weather warm enough they will get set out in to a row and another planting will be started. We try to have 2 weeks between plantings to extend the season. Last year we brought ~ 230 ears of corn to the table. #gardening #allotment #zone6b #NewEngland #BeetBear #Today #sweetcorn
#today#BeetBear and I got busy and planted up our cucumbers (Marketmore), zucchini (Dunja), yellow squash (Sunburst), and butternut squash (ButterBaby). After the tomatoes went out ,we had room to do this. Once these get large enough in a few weeks time, they will go out to grow on in the garden. There are 4 seed trays of each type, each tray has 6 seeds. The contents of each tray will be set out as is (minus the pot) in a hill of it's own. #gardening #allotment #zone6b #NewEngland
The aurora put on quite a show Friday night! It was amazing to see the sky dancing with greens, purples, reds, and aqua lights! This is one of my favorites, taken at Flagstaff Lake in Eustis, Maine.
Ram Island Ledge Lighthouse always held a bit of mystery for me, since I could never get close to it, sitting out in Casco Bay on a rocky ledge. Thanks to my drone, I've been able to demystify it a bit. Here's a recent sunrise image of the lighthouse. https://rickberk.pixels.com/featured/morning-glow-at-ram-island-ledge-rick-berk.html
#today#BeetBear spent the morning patrolling the flower bed where all the tiger lilies grow. He is keeping watch to take care of any of those pesky Lilly Beetles ( Lilioceris lilii ) that might appear. Just before lunch (very important), he went over to the Lilac bush and got some blooms to take in for Mom! #gardening #allotment #NewEngland #zone6b #spring #BloomScrolling @gardening
