I like this idea of "README driven development", where you start by writing the documentation and then make the code changes to make the docs true.

me: I've spent A WHOLE HOUR trying to share this Nest camera
me: they moved the sharing functionality to Google Home–which only has a mobile app, not really a website
me: ahaha and it keeps telling me about something called "Works with Google" when it CLEARLY FUCKING DOES NOT
me: oh my god this UI is so hostile
me: Why would anyone make their customers trade the Nest app for this mess?

Debugging a thing for hours and I finally found someone who had written about it, the one single site on the internet that even slightly referred to the thing I was trying to do. It's a blog post from 2020 on a site absolutely festooned with ads, with a hundred comments underneath, all spam, and also the blog post is in Chinese. But goddamn I ran it through Google translate and it legit solved my problem. This future!

Swallows move fast and before today my photos of them were all blueish blurs. But I finally caught one!

I absolutely love the forked tail being only visible in the reflection. Something about that makes me unreasonably happy.

Good conversation with a friend last week about projects where you're in a completely new situation or domain and have to learn quickly. A lot of both our projects are this shape.

She has this neat technique where she starts with a doc with two headings:

• “What I know.”
• “What I don’t know”

and builds from there. I like that a lot.

Anyone else have techniques they use for building context quickly?
