I finally got around to writing about my favorite concept that came out of Apple in the 80s. https://512pixels.net/2024/03/apple-jonathan-modular-concept/

@ismh reminds me of my very first computer. The microbee computer in a book.

Free to air tv: tell me up front if I’m watching a part one of a two-parter.

There’s no way I’m going to find the second part of this random obscure show I got sucked into watching

Someone needs to invent audio cables that can expand or contract according to how long they need to be. I don’t mean those spring loaded winder things that just curl up a long cable for you I mean some sort of physics-defying process to change the length. Maybe genetically alter a creeping vine so it’s electrically conductive and can be stimulated for growth and/or cut to length.

Or just make everything totally wireless with 0 latency that’d be the ideal wouldn’t it I suppose.

davidmarsh,
@davidmarsh@mastodon.au avatar

@dj2mn I would love that so much. Started to think about it and maybe we could have some sort of low power wireless transmitter receiver setup and now I’ve ended up at Bluetooth and that’s not what I want at all.

Looking for some better speakers. Hmm these seem decent and a good price.

Reddit post: these speakers literally ruined my life. My wife left. My children cried. My dog disowned me. The milk went sour.

The worst thing about being months behind my mastodon feed is none of the images load. The best thing is most of the posts don’t really matter anymore and are outdated so… swings and roundabouts I guess

Also look forward to reading this post in a month or two

Is it just me, or do staplers not actually staple anymore? I spend more time un-jamming it than actually using it

An interesting observation. Over the last few months (since leaving Reddit) I’d started posting to newsgroups again, which I hadn’t done since the early ‘00s. A lot of the groups were essentially dead, with maybe on post a month.

I guess others have had similar inklings as traffic has been picking up.

So, if you haven’t used Usenet for a while it might be worth having another look.

it might be a stupid idea, but for those few people still interested in , shouldn't we try to create a newsgroup?

davidmarsh,

@kyonshi what would be discussed there that can’t be done here?

davidmarsh,

@kyonshi true, if you go back more than a few weeks in your timeline things begin to break. I noticed a lot of images just don’t load

Go to bunnings. Buy $3 part. Have $3 part on table. Start fixing item that needs $3 part. Reach to get $3 part. … and it’s gone. 30 mins of looking and it no longer exists in our universe. Checked receipt to confirm purchase of $3 part as now doubting sanity

davidmarsh,
@davidmarsh@mastodon.au avatar

@dashlion Turns out I accidentally bought a very similar but wrong part, and as I had other parts scattered around I’d assumed it came from my spares box. Half the repair I was also doing without glasses which doesn’t help. I thought I was losing the plot 😵‍💫
