So it’s my moving day… Last night I drove down to my parents house and slept there overnight.

This morning, I get woken up to a notification saying my Internet has gone down… Not great, because I haven’t disconnected and unpaired any of my smart home stuff yet! called the ISP up and they said they weren’t able to reenable it… So annoying start.

Headed over to the house and tried to manually unpair my Nest doorbell, which resulted in me, pulling the wires out from the back of it and spending 40 minutes trying to rewire it…

Have just got a phone call from the solicitor to say that the completion has processed… But my moving van isn’t even here yet! So I get on the phone to the estate agent and tell them to not release the keys until I’m in the office… Looks like that might be 3 o’clock or later!

But while I wait for the van, I’m going to go to Aldi and pick up some food because I haven’t eaten since yesterday afternoon.

All in all, a hectic morning, and we haven’t even started loading the van yet!

I think what’s worrying me about the van so much, is that a lot of my boxes don’t close into cuboids because the lid won’t shut up properly. So they’re going to be difficult to stack on top of each other.

I’ve also got loads of stuff that’s just loose because we didn’t have enough boxes or bags to put them in. So things like mirrors, picture frames,random junk from under the stairs… I’m just hoping the van is big enough

Ok... Here we go...

So not long after I sent the last post, the van arrived with Caitlin, her dad, her brother... We managed to pack up in about 2 hours. At some point, I'd gotten the phone call to say that the completion on my sale had gone through so I was now buzzing waiting for the completion of purchase so we could drive up, get the keys, move my stuff in (we would do Caitlin's house next Friday)

The phone call never comes so I'm thinking "it's a larger purchase, maybe it takes longer to

Process??" Get to 3pm and we're packed and the van sets off on its 2.5 hour journey to the new house. Again, no confirmation on whether we've completed, so I feel like it'll happen on the way and if it doesn't, we'll just wait around until it clears.

3:30pm and I'm about to drop the keys off at the estate agents when I get a phone call from my solicitor. She says that she has sent our deposit funds to the wrong solicitor... And now they're scrambling to get them back from the bank, and that

means..... No completion today!! But she's going to try and ring the new build development and ask if we can have the keys anyway (at least just for the garage) so we can put our stuff in there.

Hour later, get a phone call on the road that it can't be done. We have to wait til Monday. Realisation hits that we now have a van full of my house and I have nowhere to put it, it's Friday at 5pm. What the fuck do we do?

In the end, we got back to Caitlin's dad's garage and he spent 20 mins emptying

Whatever he could so we can move in whatever we can... Onto an oil covered floor... Whatever. We unload stuff and see some of it has gotten damaged on the way - not the solicitors fault but still sent me into a very sad mood. Maybe I should have paid 3x the price for professional movers? Although, they'd have still had to come unload it in the wrong bloody place...

We fill the garage, and then have more stuff, so we decide to take it to Caitlin's rented accommodation and just leave it in the

front room. The living room is now FULL of bookcases, drawers, a mattress, boxes... My pop vinyl collection ie mostly in that dirty garage, elevated off the floor, and in big boxes, but I'm terrified that rain will leak through or the oil/petrol smells will soak in if we leave it long enough.

To add insult to injury then, after I've had a good cry in the shower, I remember that the ONE thing on my to-do list for packing my house, is the one thing that I forgot to do... The cutlery drawer...

So emailed and phoned the estate agent all this morning trying to find out if the new folks had moved in yet, and if not, could they PLEASE empty my cutlery drawer into a plastic bag so someone from my family can collect it next week... I've not heard back yet but I've been having dreams/nightmares about that specifically all last night. I've got good cutlery in there and sentimental things from my past and friends weddings and stuff 😂 seems silly but it really threw me off the edge.

So now I dunno what to do. The next time caitlins dad is free to help is Thursday and then we'll have to do her stuff too on the Friday... And I don't fancy doing 2 days of loading and unloading back to back. Been trying to find men with vans on short notice in the hopes they'll do all the work for us if we pay them, and then somehow force the solicitor to pay for them?? Because it's their fault, right? They should be looking to reimburse us for EVERYTHING... Costs, stress... Oh another thing

I just remembered too. We were supposed to have the floorer come on Monday as the house is completely unfloored. But after I told him we wouldn't have the keys til Monday afternoon, he basically told us he won't be wasting a day and will be starting another job instead. He'll come to ours on Thursday and Friday to make a start but he won't be able to floor the house in 2 days. So we'll be moving into concrete floors until he has time to come back and finish up... Insane knock-on effect.

So the realisation today is that the ONLY day Caitlin's dad has off this week to help with the move (and drive the van, which only he can drive...) Is Friday. How the hell do we move two houses with a single Luton box van on a single day? Impossible. Going to have to say this to the solicitors and mention that no local men with vans are available on short notice so we'll have to pay to hire a service like Pickford's... Nearly £2k...
