It’s been a while since I’ve enjoyed the dynamic between two fictional characters quite as much as it’s currently the case with ☺️
They both have their quirks and experiences and they are still getting used to each other. How they deal with finding out something they didn’t expect or that contradicts their assumptions about each other is just very mature.
I love watching them.

The first really new anime for this season that I liked is . I’m not sure yet if it will get competitive somehow, I might prefer if it’s more laid back and just makes you feel like a nice evening in a calm bar. Either way I liked the first episode and how it transports the joy of having a good drink.
I found out by searching it on MAL that it’s a remake of an anime from 2006 that I didn’t know existed, and based on a manga with 21 volumes. Didn’t feel outdated at all (they must have added the smartphone stuff).

Watching season 3 of is a no-brainer for me. It’s just nice like meeting some friends you haven’t seen in a while. After going to Japan recently I’m also realizing more strongly how many realistic details there are with the locations they go to.
Nothing more to say here.

I’m watching the new season of because I watched the previous ones and follow the LN. Sometimes I wonder why I still read it but the world is quite interesting and there are a lot of details there, as well as a lot of characters where it’s easy to find a few to like.
For the anime l’m mostly fascinated that it’s so popular despite being mostly about Rimuru handling politics and economics. And it looks great, everything is so lively. I’m looking forward to the upcoming arc.

My husband said the manga is so great, but I had enough of after half of the first episode. It turns out to be just another isekai with a male lead who levels like crazy and will probably be overpowered within a few episodes.
But more importantly, I can’t support a show with a main character who just shrugs seeing human women who were captured to bear children, beats his fellow goblin to teach him manners and is just like “whoops I didn’t dose it well” after poisoning (presumably killing) one of his brethren… and the show doesn’t show signs of condemning him for it.

Among Isekai titles, stands out as a show that isn’t a one-man show centered around a single character who came to a new world, and one that raises the stakes without appearing too dark.
It addresses the topic of fighting in an actual war with seriousness, and manages to have the existence of healing magic make that seem too inconsequential.

I really liked the characters and how they all bonded and influenced each other. The (entirely unromantic) relationship of Usato and Rose is a gem.

I’d happily welcome a second season.

I checked out where to order Precure figures online and some of the prices are really out of proportion.
The best offer for 2nd hand Cure Wing is over 2000 Yen and it was like 700 Yen when new and release was just a few months ago 😫

yellowjitsch,
@yellowjitsch@urusai.social avatar

@tojikomori I would have preordered them, too, but my go-to site for that is AmiAmi and they don’t ship these particular figures abroad 😫

After a somewhat exhausting day in Akihabara, I don’t have bags full of stuff but a careful selection of favorites.
Fūko and Andy from (FuRyu prize figures)
All 4 Cures from Go! Princess (I was really lucky to find the whole team!)
Komugi Keychain (proof that I found the Pretty Store at Tokyo Station which is hard enough 😅)
A very cute Cure Custard rubber keyholder
A Lio/Galo switch by artist Kamiyan that I missed when it came out

As it turns out, it was entirely impossible to get the Precure Cutie Figures from Hirogaru Sky. All the “official” stores have completely switched to Wonderful Precure and you’re lucky to encounter any remaining Hirogaru items. They’re also not considered collector items that you’d find at the used figure stores in Akihabara. At least I didn’t. Here and there there I saw single figures from older seasons but very few and more from the older (around 10 years ago) seasons.
I consider myself extremely lucky to have found all 4 from Go! Princess (in different shops) - especially given that they were the older season I wanted figures of most.

@anianimalsmoe I hadn’t checked online shops and by now we’re too close to flying back to order online and receive it while we’re here, but I might when we’re back and just pay for shipping…

I wasn’t aware of Nakano Broadway, is it also an area with Otaku goods? We would have a day left to check it out but I wonder if it’s worth the trip (roundabout an hour from where we are staying).

yellowjitsch,
@yellowjitsch@urusai.social avatar

@anianimalsmoe To be honest I’m not sure if what I’m looking for qualifies as “old”, what I want most are figures that were released in October last year 😭 So I tend to not try and be disappointed again.

But I agree with the impression that today Akiba is very touristy and there are fewer shops with old and 2nd hand merch than I think I remember from 10 years ago.

Today I fulfilled one of my undebatable to do’s while being in Japan and went to a theater with live Rakugo performances.

And wow, this art form is just so impressive, one performer invoking a whole story. I think my favorite was one mimicking a guy drinking, chewing on Dango and getting drunk. You could virtually see the food entering his mouth (but he only had a folding fan to invoke chopsticks, no other props).

I recognized 3 of the 7 stories from anime that center around Rakugo, which was nice too. Most of them from Akane-Banashi which I love, but the way.

@yellowjitsch@urusai.social avatar

I’m super happy that my level of proficiency in Japanese is advanced enough to get the stories (I didn’t understand every word all the time, but the overall stories made sense to me).

But it’s also a bit sad knowing that this art form isn’t accessible for people who have no or just basic understanding of Japanese.

I didn’t buy this (also because ugh, a single piece of bread wrapped in plastic) but this product packaging is peak 👌

The bread is behind the transparent part which is shaped like Komugi‘s main body and has exactly the right color.

Going to I realized another difference in culture that I had not been aware of, regarding .
In Germany you get all kinds of „tea“ most of which are actually fruit or herbal infusions that don’t contain any tea leaves.
Such a thing is pretty much unobtainable in Japan. I found only barley tea and Rooibos as caffeine free alternatives to green and black tea (I like those too, but I fear they may keep me awake if I drink them too late in the evening).

The anime adaptation of is really so exhausting. You start an episode, get 2 minutes of recap before anything starts and then most likely a full length repetition of at least one scene from a previous episode 😞
I don’t even get why. There is more than enough manga material for one season. They’re not even going to end up at a point where it would be obvious to make a cut…

I’m really enjoying the manga but the anime makes it hard for me to like it… (maybe it’s not that bad if you’re seeing everything for the first time?)

We finally booked our flights to . Next we need to make detailed plans for our round trip.

I’ve seen the Osaka / Nara / Kyoto area a lot during previous travels and spent a week in Tokyo, so I mainly want to go somewhere else.
Do you have recommendations for places, lodgings or activities we should consider?

yellowjitsch,
@yellowjitsch@urusai.social avatar

@KarlE We’ll be going in March.
I prefer nature over cities. Shrines and Temples are nice, I’ve already seen a lot of them but always like the atmosphere. And I’m definitely interested in trying various local foods.

Otona Precure is really growing on me. The episodes about Rin and Urara were both nice. I could relate to both, but especially Rin and how she’s struggling with finding enough time for all her interests. But the Urara episode was really nice and uplifting.
I also appreciate the little hints about the story itself, and how, unlike how it looked at first, the relationship of Nozomi and Coco is complicated indeed.
Since Komachi used to be my favorite back then, I’m looking forward to her episode as well.

CRUNCHYROLL ADDED "SKIP INTRO", THIS IS NOT A DRILL, CRUNCHYROLL ADDED "SKIP INTRO"

How has it taken them this long though?

yellowjitsch,
@yellowjitsch@urusai.social avatar

@neatchee I’ve seen it for a while but only for episodes that came out after a certain point and sometimes it’s missing.
I wonder if it’s different for different language versions because it’s associated with the time codes, I always have German subtitles.

@mdmrn I read a lot of weekly manga but I don’t always manage to read them every week 😅 Often I come to MangaPlus and am surprised that yet again there are 2 or 3 unread chapters in a series that I’m supposed to be following closely.

We watched the first episode of and it‘s really something different. That calm atmosphere and the depiction of how time mercilessly passes are really heartfelt. Skipping through time in those big jumps also helps to get the viewer to take Frieren‘s perspective. I hope the pacing won’t suddenly become more hectic.
If there’s anything I can’t quite digest it’s the use of German words for names. They are not badly chosen, but words that are so common that I can’t really associate them with names. Especially since we watch with German subs 😅

First show from I watched was (first episode) and I could definitely have done worse.
Still, since I’m not personally a gamer, I can’t really relate to the MC.
I’m still waiting for something interesting here beyond that guy being quite happy about the good quality and leveling quickly. Just nice animation (and I admit it’s very nice) is not going to keep me invested. I’m also dreading a running gag of that girl never managing to actually talk to him or something like that.

The by usually have a high quality, but what I’m most amazed by is how good all the openings are.
I’ve seen enough openings that are just character slideshows which are just roughly attuned to a more or less catchy song.
But all of Mappa’s openings that I can think of combine really good music, striking visuals that often don’t fully make sense until you have watched the whole show, and the video is carefully matched to the beat, mood and lyrics of the song.
