You can’t cut any taxes or programs to fund your idea. Nothing else in your government is going to change. It can’t be a tax that you avoid somehow. The money comes from you and similar people in your situation. Don’t try to get around it in some way....
Vim, I’ve not given emacs a fair try yet. At work I’ve got to use what I’ve got to use and neither is an option. At home the last thing I want to do is write more code.
When I do have a choice I’m not doing much more complicated things than editing a config file and anything more advanced than cat would do I guess.
Winter (north Scandinavia): 10 minutes by car. Options are walking 1 hour or bus+walking ~40 minutes depending on how close you like to cut it on the bus stop.
Summer: option of bike 15 minutes. Not an option during winter. It’s okay above -15 C, flat ground, low traffic and well plowed streets. None of those are true here.
That the most important thing is technical know-how.
You’ll have to deal with a lot of difficult people in life. There is a huge difference if you get them to put your task on top of their todo list or on there bottom of the pile on their desk.
I know the board has some fiduciary duty, but can a company put some guardrails on it when they go public, like saying the environment will always come first, or employees or customers or something?
No. They can be sued for the opposite too. Generally it’s about misleading the shareholders. You can argue that it’s about money in the end because who will buy planes that fall out of the sky?
NEW YORK, Jan 31 (Reuters) - Boeing (BA.N), has been sued by shareholders who said the company prioritized profit over safety and misled them about its commitment to making safe aircraft, prior to the Jan. 5 mid-air cabin panel blowout on an Alaskan Airlines 737 MAX 9.
The same company has been harassing for the better part a year now wanting to buy a property I don’t own. I have filled a DO NOT CALL registration, I have blocked their numbers multiple times, I have told them to stop calling and to remove my name from their list, and now I’m getting maybe 1 or 2 calls a day and multiple...
I consider it my civic duty to waste as much of their time as possible. It can also serve as an outlet for creativity and have a bit of fun. Think of it as a reverse prank call.
I think my favorite was when they called on my work phone and I tried to set them up as a customer, with my most pleasant voice asking about their billing address and quoting our consulting fees and that I’d be happy to answer any question they wanted as soon as they were set up as a customer. They told me to fuck off and hung up 15 minutes later.
I’d be surprised I’d be allowed in there in the first place, but I guess if Hitler got there the bar to entry is fairly low.
I’d have some questions to ask but I am guessing the complaint queue is very long considering all victims meeting their murderers in heaven and whatnot so I’ll just go have a harp lesson or something.
Turns out you can make up any arbitrary distinctions and they just start existing. The question is if they severe any useful purpose.
I can make zodiac 2.0 exist by adding shoe size to distinguish between regular aquarius and aquarius without platypus (above EU 42 is with). So now the Zodiac 2.0 exists with the same predictive power as 1.0.
Some people change their socks every single day, to me that’s a little to much. I’m more of a 2-3days kinda guy. Is changing socks each day absolutely necessary?...
Yes, but this late in the season I also play other games. I’m doing a challenge run in Factorio (Seablock, equivalent of Minecraft’s skyblock). Also doing some multiplayer BG3 with friends. I’ll be back to no lifing wow next season
I’m curious where people see Universal Basic Income on the political spectrum. Please mention what national/cultural/generational background is informing your answer. Thanks!
The right want a small government and to encourage entrepreneurs to take risks. The left want a strong social support system for the unfortunate.
From what I’ve read about it it seems like a good idea. The big question is how you implement it at scale without crashing the current system that works reasonably well.
I started fairly recently (probably somewhere between nine and seven years ago; time isn’t my strong suit, cut me some slack) on Debian. Now I’m on Arch Linux.
Dabbled in it since 2006. About 2012 i had problems with my network card on windows, flipped out and just installed Linux on my main home computer and have not used windows at home since.
Started with Ubuntu and it’s flavors, recently had problems with snap packages, flipped out and installed the first non Ubuntuoid distro that promised an easy install so I could get back to whatever I was doing at the time. I currently have Manjaro at home.
-40 temperatures every few years. I live in an apartment so I’m not allowed to install a fireplace and can’t really make changes to the heating system. Got a heap of candles that could keep a small room above freezing for a day or two.
Excessive amounts of snow. 4WD and can work remotely.
I remember reading somewhere (probably my high school textbook) that one of the reasons people don’t like wind power being built is they cause visual pollution....
