Not to mention the quality of AAA games is slipping, on average. So many games are releasing in broken, underdeveloped states. I remember a time when it would ruin a studio to drop a game in that state, and now it's commonplace.

Yeah, I was kind of enjoying it at first. I think I got 15 or 20 hours in before I just put it down and never came back to it. Not intentionally, I just never felt like it. That's saying something, because I wasn't that impressed with Sw/Sh either, but I 100%ed Sword.

They absolutely hold your hand too much. I wish Nintendo could make a Pokémon game instead of The Pokémon Company. I feel like Nintendo's first-party team would make something stellar with more of a challenge (without being unfair), a more engaging story, fun puzzles, a more curated world to explore, better graphics, and maybe even add something actually new to the series.

The worst part about not setting a time is that I don't know when to start making popcorn.

You're gonna get a million different answers to this question. lol But yes, PopOS is a great option, for sure! I started my Linux gaming journey on PopOS and I loved it!

Another cool one is Nobara, a gaming-centric Linux distro based on Fedora. My one caution would be that it usually takes a month after Fedora updates (which is already slower than some other distros because of their release model), for Nobara to get those updates. Otherwise, it not only installs the necessary GPU drivers during install (like PopOS), but it has a bunch of gaming-related software pre-installed and pre-configured. You can basically just start downloading and playing games without any hassle.

With that said, PopOS is going to get much faster and more regular updates. It's stable, easy to use, and makes driver setup easy.

I'm revealing my age here, but when I was a little kid, I played Dogz II and Catz II soooo much. I also had one called Babyz. lol

I loved virtual pets. I had Digimon, a few Tamagotchis, a Pokémon Pikachu (like a Tamagotchi but Pikachu), and a bunch of stuff like that. I was also obsessed with NeoPets. Haha

I would love to see the virtual pet genre make a comeback. I haven't really found any cool, modern ones. Tamagotchi has/had a mobile game that I liked for a bit, but it was kind of a gacha game and had all of the mobile game trappings. But like a proper successor to Petz today would be really fun. At the very least, seeing the Petz games come to GOG would be awesome.

Dunkey, Let's Game It Out, NakeyJakey, Digital Foundry, and Gameranx are the ones I watch most regularly.

The Architect of Games and Razbuten are fun ones if you like video essays, and Keenengraz is great for finding lots of insane free games to play. ThatGuyGlen has some cool, short docu-style videos on the making of indie games that are really well done.

I'm sure I'm forgetting plenty, but those are some of my favorites, for sure.

For nostalgic reasons, mine is also Ocarina of Time, for sure. Majora's Mask is a close second.

I think Tears of The Kingdom is my favorite gameplay-wise.

The Link's Awakening remake gets an honorable mention, cause that game is amazing.

It's a premium, subscription-based search engine. Basically, you just pay them monthly instead of getting ads.

5! My uncle got me OoT for Christmas when I was a kid. He didn't know I wanted it, he just really liked it and thought he'd get me a cool video game, but I remember seeing the commercial for it on TV and wanting to play it really badly.

I played SO much of that game. I sucked at games as a kid (but I adored them) so I got it when I was probably ~7 and didn't beat it until I was probably ~15. lol And it was only thanks to help from friends. I have since beaten it multiple times, and I've beaten Majora's Mask, Link's Awakening (Switch remake), Four Swords, I 100%ed BotW + DLC, and I am well on my way to beating TotK. So I have improved at video games, thankfully. lol

What game is improved the most by mods?

I know most of the Bethesda RPGs have massive mod support, and there's games like Minecraft that have more mods than anyone can imagine. I would consider those games pretty playable in their vanilla states. Would you say there are any games that were "saved" by modding? Or that are still kept alive by thriving modding...

There's a ton!

Project Zomboid mods are fantastic. There are insane amounts of them, and they add so much to the game.

Games like Skyrim and Fallout 4 become essentially infinitely replayable with mods. There's a tool called Wabbajack that essentially makes "modpacks" a thing for these games (and several others), and it's amazing. You can install and configure hundreds of mods in like 30 mins.

One of my personal favorite mods was "Hyrule Conquest" for 0 A.D., which is a complete overhaul of the game that turns it into a deep, lore-friendly Zelda RTS. It's still being worked on and it's still super high quality. The dev made some major changes to the play style that a lot of people love, but I personally strongly preferred the old style. It was more like Age of Empires before, but now it's more like Battle for Middle Earth and I don't care for it. If that's a selling point for you, it's very much still a great mod with a lot of love and passion put into it.

I am the only straight person on the Fediverse, AMA.

how long on average until a community created on one instance is viewable on others?

So I created midwest.social/c/projectzomboid and in trying to view it on lemmy.one/c/projectzomboid@midwest.social for the past two hours but it isn't showing up. My other community lemmy.one/c/lotrmemes@midwest.social shows up just fine. How long until the project Zomboid one is viewable?

To be honest, cross-instance communities are kinda screwy sometimes. It's a known bug. I have a list of communities I'm waiting to sub to when they finally stop 404ing. lol They usually just randomly work eventually.

But your sub is now on my list! It's not showing up yet for me, but I love PZ.
