Bucky O'Hare was a favorite of mine. There was also this weird British superhero teddy bear called Super Ted.
Someone else in this thread mentioned Bump in the Night, which was def a big one for me, too.
I also had a VHS of Cubix: Robots for Everyone that I was obsessed with. It was a Korean CGI animated show that sadly never got all that big in the US, but there were a couple of lame video games and a few toys that made it here.
I could make a whole huge list, so I'll stop here, but it would be a disservice of me not to mention Extreme Dinosaurs which was (and still is) objectively the coolest show ever made.
Privacy reasons. When a comment is "deleted" on Lemmy, the comment is actually only hidden to all except instance administrators. The comment remains on the post and continues to display the poster's username. kbin is also not a beacon of privacy, but it at least removes deleted comments from threads. This is also why I try to interact more on kbin magazines than Lemmy communities.
kbin has a sweet community search tool that not only searches kbin magazines, but also Lemmy communities and even Mastodon groups. This means you can easily find communities all across the #Fediverse for any of your interests.
kbin has a much nicer/more modern UI. It's got some quirks, but it's easier to read and navigate than Lemmy by default.
Customization options! Lemmy has themes, which is cool, but kbin has themes and lots of fun toggles to change your experience.
Last but certainly not least, Lemmy devs have a pretty shit stance on human rights. (See here: https://mstdn.social/@feditips/106835057054633379). There are communities like #Beehaw, which are super friendly and non-problematic instances separate from the Lemmy devs, but it's worth noting that instances like Lemmy's flagship instance and Lemmygrad are run by folks with some grossly misguided views.
The first that popped into my head in the moment was "Fighter" by Christina Aguilera. No clue why that one comes to mind first, maybe because it freaked me out as a kid. lol
Oh, man. So many good ones, especially in the indie space. Celeste and Eastward both have spectacular, eerie, synthy soundtracks that are wonderful. Another indie game, Flinthook, has a theme song that absolutely slaps. Katana Zero had a rad OST, too.
Undertale goes without saying.
Obv Nintendo games, especially ones composed by Koji Kondo, have amazing soundtracks. OoT is one of my favorites, but there are many good ones. Basically any classic Zelda, Mario, Donkey Kong, etc. Even the newer games, like Mario Odyssey and TotK, have great soundtracks. While not first-party Nintendo, the first couple gens of the Pokémon games' music will live in my brain forever more.
I'm also gonna shout-out Grant Kirkhope because he is a genius and basically composed the soundtrack to my childhood. You know him from Banjo-Kazooie, Donkey Kong 64, Mario + Rabbids, and many more games. They aren't soundtracks I'd walk around listening to on Spotify (probably), but in the context of the game world, they are perfection.
I could go on, but I'm just gonna shout out my faves and walk away before this becomes a giant wall of text.
EDIT: Oh lord, how did I forget Halo 2's theme (Mjolnir mix)?
Yeah, I'm really excited for kbin to come in to its own, because rn it feels like every post is about reddit. I get why, it makes sense, but that's not what I'm here for.
We recently got a switch and love it! I've been sent back to my childhood and get to enjoy playing with my kids now. We've been playing the following. Looking to see what else might be out there too....
I can't believe I haven't seen Mario Odyssee in this thread!! It's amazing! I think it's a must-have for any Switch owner. Also, Super Mario 3D World is a lot of fun.
Also:
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is another must-have.
I really like the Mario + Rabbids series, too.
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is one of the best platformers out there, IMO.
Splatoon 3 is a blast, too. I don't think it has local multiplayer, sadly, but it's a lot of fun.
Pokkén Tournament is fun if you like fighting games. It's like Tekken, but you play as Pokémon.
Astral Chain is sweet. Idk how old your kids are or if they'd be into it, but it's a really fun action JRPG with a cool story for adults and older kids/teens.

Nobara's a pretty cool project. The only thing keeping me from trying it is that updates are typically about a month behind Fedora, which is already just about as slow as I'm comfortable with. I use Fedora currently and it wasn't too much of a hassle for me to get everything setup, but if I'm ever feeling adventurous, I might fire up Nobara just to scope it out.
I may or may not switch in the future, but regardless, I'd love to try it so I can safely recommend it to people who are new to Linux gaming or just hate spending time configuring stuff.
I have to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page to post a reply... is their an option to move the comment box to the top? Or is that something that will be changed at some point?
Starfield looks like it's gonna be a masterpiece and I am beyond hyped, but they didn't have any news related to Banjo-Kazooie, so I have a moral obligation to commit arson.
Gatekeeping, especially for a hobby that involves pretending you're a cowboy or something, is such a weird hill to die on. Playing and games are a part of human nature. It's something we've done globally for centuries, maybe longer. Why is this even a discussion? As a dude, I cannot wrap my head around how a woman (or literally any other living being) owning a Switch would interfere with my enjoyment of any game in any scenario, unless we have to share a Switch and it's supposed to be my turn to play. lol
It's the same terrible logic (albeit less sexist) as shitting on games that offer easy mode. Like... games aren't just for one demographic. Having an easy mode available doesn't mean you have to play it, if you don't want to. Just let people enjoy shit.
More gamers = more friends. This is good. We want this.

Absolutely! I'm not a particular fan of reddit, the company, but I have loved reddit, the community, for a long time. My first account is over 11 years old now. That platform has been something of a home to me on the internet for a really long time. I think it's not abnormal to feel some grief or something grief-adjecent over what's been happening.
What obscure cartoons/media from your childhood do you remember?
I remember having quite a few VHS tapes from a company called "Just For Kids", that had some of the neatest shows....

for the Reddit refugees, do you also feel a bit heartbroken?
For me it feels like breaking up with someone after many years. At the same time, I feel a bit dirty mentioning the name in the post title.
