The federal government says in essence they’re the same as conventional plastics because they need special municipal facilities to be broken down and won’t rot away on a forest floor
Paper bags, they add, are resource-heavy to produce and awkward for customers to carry.
Conveniently forgetting about tote bags, I see.
I actually think it makes sense. The ban is about waste in nature, the bags won't rot away in nature, so someone needs to come pick them up, no matter whether or not a certain region could than continue to process the bags. Offer paper and tote bags and all will be good. Works elsewhere in the world, too.
For now the most important part will keeping the tube nest dark and not disturbing your queen too often. She will feed on her remaining wing muscle mass until the first workers hatched and provide her with food. I always liked just giving honey and insects (put them into hot water shortly, to avoid bringing mites into your farm). A good source to look into for insects all year around is pet stores who might carry some as food for lizards.
You could also look into red, transparent foil. Based on the idea that ants can't see red light, many people put them around the nest to be able to see inside while hoping to reduce the stress for the ants. I'm not sure what's the current view on that idea, it has been a long time since I kept my own Lasius queen, back then people were torn, especially considering that most foil might not filter all the light correctly... I'd at least use it together with proper covering, if you want to try it out.
The technical side isn't solved with nuclear waste, either. There isn't a single final storage site in the world. We just started building nuclear plants, without knowing how to actually store that trash so it's "well sealed". Nowadays there are a least ideas, investigations and plans but nobody actually created one, moved all their trash there and started using it. But once they do, it's also not simple. All of the existing trash needs to moved around the respective countries (hopefully nobody signs on the idea to move it between countries) since it's only in temporary storage, I'd call that far from "well sealed". There will be literally trains or trucks carrying that shit through neighbourhoods, ifnthey ever actually find their permanant storage.
Also the choice is absolutely not between CO2, greenhouse gases and nuclear waste, that's just pro-nuclear nonsense. Plus, since when do we trust governments and possibly involved companies to actually find a solution that will not harm anyone? Putting your trust into them to not dump that shit in unsuitable sites is a huge ask. They can't do that with chemicals, so why would nuclear trash be any different?
I encourage everyone to take at least a simple, basic self-defence course somewhere. While a kick to the crotch is painful to men and women, there are other simple techniques everyone should know in case this one attack vector isn't an option. One example is quickly slapping their ears with cupped hands, as if trying to clap with their head. It also helps to practice the right motions a few times, ideally on someone with a protective suit so you can actually use your full force.
If it would only be meat, sure. Unpleasant but manageable. But the animal products can be a problem. They not only put you very close to the most hard-core of vegans diet plan, they additionally mess with medical treatment available to you.
Recently, Reddit announced that they may be discontinuing awards/coins on September 12. However I'm skeptical and I think this may be just a deceptive announcement for them to make a quick buck from awards/coins. What are your opinions on this?
Nah.
Firstly, you no longer can buy coins and awards. Three days ago they posted this:
Starting today, you will no longer be able to purchase new coins, but all awards and existing coins will continue to be available until September 12, 2023.
So currently they can not make any quick bugs with coins and awards as they no longer are buy-able.
Additionally, since all coins/awards expire on that date, there is zero reason to get more. Right now you want to get rid of what you have, not stock up just so Reddit can delete your inventory of coins.
This would be different if they announced some beneficial exchange rate for real money or their new system or kept coins you own available indefinitely (or at least way longer), which indeed would trigger some people to stock up "just in case I want to award someone later on".
This is a clean cut, meant to renew the system by first tearing down the old one completely, without leaving anything in place, and then introducing something entirely new. I don't necessarily agree with their communication and deadlines but I don't think there is anything foul at work here. They just want a new system and follow their current trend of rushing everything.

I just don’t understand why I have to say “hey, would you mind not letting the dogs tangle? thank you:)” in some high pitched voice when I could just say, “can you not let the dogs tangle?” in a tone that conveys I’m serious. it’s so much easier when intentions are simply stated.
I think part of your problem actually starts even earlier, because it exists in both examples. You use you-statements. Neurotypicals hate these and feel directly accused of something. So softening the you-statement helps.
If it makes sense to you and comes more easy you can try something that is also taught to neurotypicals who look into learning about communication: Avoid you-statements and instead use I-statements that are about you and the situation, not them and the situation.
There are a lot of resources about that on the internet (because as said, even the Neurotypicals need to learn about that) but here's one example where they explain the difference and how it's perceived
But here you'd instead say "I don't like when the dogs tangle". Neurotypicals will see a problem that needs to be solved and go like "hey, I can help" instead of becoming defensive about the perceived accusation that they did something wrong. It's not a guarantee that it works but studies show a lot higher acceptance for I-statements.

When I was still using it for science we simply boasted about our achievements and called that "networking". My new paper is out in the International Journal of Unreproducible Science, cite me, I'm begging you!
My bubble disappointingly is still doing that on Twitter. Since they convinced themselves that Twitter is an essential networking tool it's hard to ditch.
LinkedIn was more seen as "if you want to leave science go to LinkedIn, otherwise ignore that platform". But it absolutely does happen there, too, just not to that extend, from what I am seeing.

So, I guess Threads is officially spyware... Not at all shocked, but, Jesus that's a lot of data they're wanting.
