Brkdncr,

Parks require maintenance that’s paid with tax dollars. They go to shit really fast without it.

I don’t think this needs to be profitable but there are real costs that need to be covered somehow, and it’s not going to be taxes.

Idea: Fediverse community/"subreddit" explorer

A problem many have realized is that there are many /tech, /gaming etc. communities in different instances/servers. There is already https://fediverse.observer/ , so I think it wouldn't be too hard to make a service that periodically roams the fediverse, checks for example the last 100,000 submissions of each (or top 100 active...

Brkdncr,

I think you’re right to be looking and I hope the idea of browsing other instances becomes more native and intuitive.

Do you think Meta's Threads app will be beneficial or detrimental to the Fediverse?

Personally I believe that it'll make people associate the Fediverse with Threads, which is not a good thing. Edit: It'll replace their definition of the Fediverse, with Threads, and people may widely forget about Mastodon, Lemmy, Kbin etc.

Brkdncr,

It’s coming wheather you want it or not. It may be best to figure out how to be receptive to it.

I could really use some great video game soundtrack recommendations. Bonus points for a YouTube link. Double bonus points if the game is at least 15 years old 🙂

Brkdncr,

Cracks are of two types: static or dynamic.

Most static cracks are fine. Cracks that are moving, changing, etc are dynamic and should be inspected by a professional.

I have an ADU that has a huge crack in the slab foundation. But it’s probably been there for 10+ years. I’ll need to spend $20k to dig it out and fix it, or I can simply mostly ignore it.

Tell HN: Nearly all of Evernote’s remaining staff has been laid off | Hacker News (news.ycombinator.com)

Its acquirer (Bending Spoons) has taken over operations. They’ve also hiked subscriptions prices and told customers they intend to use new revenues to pay for new features. How they intend to do that without any staff is something I would like to know about....

Brkdncr,

Doesn’t OneNote do shared notes pretty well?

Brkdncr,

You don’t lose half of the volume when you open a fridge door. The “cold” is stored in the items inside the fridge.

Brkdncr,

If you’re interested in saving electricity, you should. Even if it’s just a pot of water. Empty refrigerators run constantly.

What's your favorite database?

Wrong answers only.

Brkdncr,

1969 F250. Rebuilt 390fe with upgraded cam, intake manifold, edlebrock 750, then replaced the fuel tank and upgraded to EFI. Rebuilt trans., new radiator. Plan to move the floor shift back to the column and add a/c. Also have some headers to put in and hope to be able to add the 2nd gas tank. Plan to make it my hauler.

1961 Lincoln continental sedan. Rebuilt 430 MEL and trans. New interior. Lowered. Upgraded to EFI. Plan to upgrade the starter, raise it back to stock ride height, and redo vacuum and electrical. Also needs new front windows and a thumping stereo system.

2008 bmw k1200r. Just needs fluids and a battery and a trailer to get it down the 3 mile dirt/gravel road to some tarmac.

Brkdncr,

How bad do you need office? Uninstall it then grab the free version which is effectively a web app.

Brkdncr,

That dealer checklist is overpriced. The steering alignment and valve adjustment are the only items that seem remotely reasonable.

You can ignore the boots. Because anything they were protecting are probably shot and need to be replaced.

A local mechanic could probably look at this inspection list and charge you half

You really should get that pump rebuilt or replaced though. It might not cost a lot from a parts store and looks pretty easy to access.

Brkdncr,

The market for starlink exists because terrestrial broadband is such a shit show.

Brkdncr,

You’re thinking about it to hard.

The are using the a/p code because why not? Also because it’s been around a while and that might be useful when competitors start suing.

Threads instantly will become the de facto fediverse client. If they federate for even a month, and then defed, nearly everyone from any other instance will want to move to threads to maintain that access.

Brkdncr,

Courts can have closed source code audited. It’s literally done in a locked room on a device that doesn’t have the ability to export, and people that enter the room are monitored.

Brkdncr,

I’d love a game where I play as the mega man villains.

Brkdncr,

I don’t think meta will care about the fediverse at all. They don’t have much to gain through activitypub support.

Brkdncr,

Because they don’t test with Chrome of Firefox. It also makes it easier to cross-sell o365.

Brkdncr,

I had the Honda Sabre. Great bike.

I currently own my dream bike, a k1200r. Bought it off the guy that wrote gladiator.

Brkdncr,

As far as I can tell, when I sort by hot it overheats the CPU of the instance server.

Brkdncr,

Unreasonable request for most internet users.

Fixable or new water heater needed? (lemmy.world)

Hot water was running out very quickly. I tested voltages, upper element looked good, on the lower the small protective plastic cover over the wires shocked me. I cut the breaker and found this loose wire. And obviously all this rust/mineral build up. If I were to fix I’d try to replace the element but I’m afraid that I...

Brkdncr,

I think it’s an appropriate response to that photo.

Brkdncr,

Yeah that’s part of the complete assembly. Part 9/17 it looks like.

You’re going to be calling junk yards for a while. Since that car has a big following another option is to float by some of the communities and ask if anyone has a few parts cars laying around.
