DaDragon,

And best of all, they’re not even satanists. They just call themselves an edgy name

DaDragon,

It’s almost universally the one constant that can be relied on under any circumstance

What is a good eli5 analogy for GenAI not "knowing" what they say?

I have many conversations with people about Large Language Models like ChatGPT and Copilot. The idea that “it makes convincing sentences, but it doesn’t know what it’s talking about” is a difficult concept to convey or wrap your head around. Because the sentences are so convincing....

DaDragon,

The short hand answer I’d try to give people is ‘it’s statistics’. Based on training data, there’s a certain chance of certain words being in proximity of each other. There’s no reasoning behind placement, other than whatever pattern is discernible from known situation.

DaDragon,

What the actual fuck is this article? I’ve rarely read this many words to spell out so little. To sum up the article: Boring company Las Vegas tunnel = bad and toxic mess, China = undisputed high speed rail leader. I’d want to know more about what exactly is wrong with the boring company tunnel, but the article gives you nothing useful

DaDragon,

Would you say Apple is in a slump?

With the VisionPro hype already dead (maybe forever?), bad or tasteless iPad ads, purposeless updates to iPad, Apple dropping their car project, and reaching out to OpenAI or Google for AI services … it certainly feels like it to me. They’ve at least run into their limitations recently however much they want to find the...

DaDragon,

I think you make a point, but their recent customer-side choices have been more hostile than usual. I like Apple’s hardware; and I buy their products, but their insistence on delivering barely-usable entry level products is even greater than before. Especially with the AVP, they could have actually made it into an incredible value proposition as a MacBook replacement, instead both the hardware and the OS is somewhat meh

DaDragon,

I agree. But for me personally, the fact that VisionOS seems to be an iOS port rather than MacOS is already enough to make me incredibly reserved as far as excitement goes. The hardware seems great, but software wise they seem to be attempting to push out more and more mobile-first devices, rather than a useful productivity device.

DaDragon,

Classic Apple being Apple. Maybe one day they’ll come (or be forced to come) to their senses, but I doubt it. In short, computing is fucked.

DaDragon,

Probably. Most likely the author meant stocks and such, but didn’t word their thought adequately

DaDragon,

Sounds like Musk’s taking a page out of the Russian/Ukrainian oligarch book: there’s no point in paying bills ahead of time, if you can make even more money by ignoring the bill for a couple of months

Hello GPT-4o (openai.com)

GPT-4o (“o” for “omni”) is a step towards much more natural human-computer interaction—it accepts as input any combination of text, audio, and image and generates any combination of text, audio, and image outputs. It can respond to audio inputs in as little as 232 milliseconds, with an average of 320 milliseconds,...

DaDragon,

Presumably, that’s not realistic in the short term. Running a final model, definitely, but the training portions for these models are almost impossible without access to huge hardware capability.

DaDragon,

But the pier served its primary purpose. It showed the world, and internal voters, that America is doing something, and it was good real-world training for the US ACoE.

I do find it somewhat amusing that people expect any of this is done for the benefit of Palestinians, or, in the case of Israel’s response to the Hamas attacks, for the benefit of Israeli citizens. Though I’m sure most politicians wouldn’t pass those talking points up.

DaDragon,

Israel is currently the US’ closest ‘ally’ in the Middle East. Not that Israel wouldn’t turn on the US in a heartbeat, but the US needs Israel to maintain force in the region. Add to that, Israel is Jewish. In light of events almost 100 years ago, it’s a bit problematic to criticise anything a group of Jewish people do.

The US can’t exactly come out and say anything that would be too disruptive to their relationship with Israel.

DaDragon,

Because some people enjoy milk with their food? (I know it’s not the answer you’re going for)

DaDragon,

Shudder. Not sure I could drink that, honestly

DaDragon,

Hey, spacex is probably musk’s most successful company. Up until now, I think they’ve delivered almost everything they have promised

DaDragon,

The guy you replied to is probably saying her labia majora is too ‘big’

DaDragon,

Some other email not directly linked to you, as you said. Second proton mail account, linked to a temp email, for example? Buy access to some questionably sourced email owned by a random person, and use that as a recovery email for that secondary ‘secure’ account .

Although if security is important, I would probably just not use a recovery email at all. Back up communications to a ‘secure’ location directly, and leave the account itself to die if you forget a credidential.

DaDragon,

Fish: live in water

Beavers: also live in water

checks out

DaDragon,

My uninformed opinion would probably be that someone somewhere realised that air assault is no longer viable, in light of a lack of Russian air superiority. And in general, the VDV has always been more of a ‘somewhat decently trained conscript force’, which only has an overall better image because they undergo slightly more training than their ‘normal’ conscripted brethren

DaDragon,

I believe that’s what they refer to as diarrhoea

DaDragon,

Designing a door-closing system to progressively increase pressure until either a) system failure or b) successful closing, is actually somewhat predictable. Now it’s definitely not particularly safe, but you can at least predict that specific behaviour

DaDragon,

I assume they’re talking about the fact that Eurovision is very definitely not just judged based on the performance of the singers/their staging.

DaDragon,

Now to be fair, they were indeed the first to deliver a large-scale touchscreen integrated into a vehicle dash infotainment system. To the point that the panels they used didn’t actually stand up to the abusive environment, but that’s a different matter.

DaDragon,

Which empire?

In short, are are you trying to say that Hamas killed no innocents on October 7?
