I have a synology NAS where I backup my photos to. What would be the most cost effective way to encrypt and back up this data without having to purchase another NAS and install it at a family member's house. It would be about 5 TB and would not touch the data unless my NAS completely takes a crap.
I don't think Backblaze's personal unlimited tier is going to easily support op's Synology. I'm sure there's a way to get it to work, but their B2 service integrates with Synology and is the appropriate route to take. Op's looking for redundancy. I wouldn't want to rely on an unsupported work around to guarantee my data when they offer a service that's targeted towards what they want to accomplish.
Backblaze B2 is probably going to be the cheapest and seamless options since they say it integrates with Synology NAS. It's $5/TB/month.
Microsoft Azure Archive storage looks like it might be cheaper per month, but that's just going based on storage costs alone. This guide has a pretty decent explanation of examples of the cost to upload and store it.
Backblaze B2 has the synology integration and op wouldn't have to think about the costs of being able to access or retrieve the data from something like Azure cold or archive storage tiers, since B2 is sold as a hot storage option.
Thanks for your hard work. I must have had at least 5 of the Calvin and Hobbes books growing up. I have a feeling I donated all of them over the years.
It's really awesome getting to go back and enjoy some of the random scans you've done!!!

Hey Fediverse, what split-screen games do you guys play? There's a ton of "100 best couch-sloth co-op split-screen Nintendo Switch games in 2023 that will make your head explode!" articles/blogspam out there in the Googleverse, but it's more helpful to me if I can get feedback from people who actually play these games. Like, all...
If you're recommending Diablo, I'd recommend Nine Parchments over that. They're kinda similar gameplay wise, but Nine Parchments is far far far easier to get into and pick up and play. The skill trees are fairly straight forward and you don't have to worry about equipment stats. We played it a ton a few years ago. Even after playing it for a while and then having the same group try Diablo 3 on the Switch, we went right back to Nine Parchments.
I had played Diablo 3 on the pc previously online with others, which worked. But I don't feel like it was really as enjoyable with multiple people sharing the same screen on the Switch trying to mess with their load outs, go to shops, etc.
Nine Parchments was far easier to pick up and play. You had certain powers. Skill trees you upgraded. And that was it.
If you have Microsoft Word, just use the built in spell and grammer check. It's far more capable these days and is very feature rich.
Another user pointed out how much worse you can make your writing using it. I had a peer in a group project put our work through Grammerly and mindlessly accept what it said to do and it ruined the writing.
Mind you, I've never been a fan of Grammerly and certainly don't understand how people could pay for it. And certainly would never be comfortable using it for free, because then they're data mining me.

I just got my new (used) bike, and I'm also a big music nerd and love to listen to music when I'm traveling. Do you personally listen to music while you're cycling, and in your opinion is it safe?
I do mtb trails. It's hit and miss. Sometimes I don't listen to music. Sometimes I'll have one earbud in with the volume fairly low. I never use two earbuds. I've never had an issue, but my biggest concern is being able to hear animals and stuff.
Honestly, it'd be pretty neat if Microsoft setup their own instance and consolidated all of their communities onto it. The user part is optional. Since it was federated, you could post to it from other instances (right...? Provided they don't get black listed).
I feel like Microsoft has 10 different community forums for all different aspects of their business. Centralizing it onto an instance like this with magazines for each would actually be reallllllly helpful.
Clicking on posts pointing outside kbin brings me to its comment page instead of the linked page. I have to click through another time from the comment page to finally get to the article. Is this a deliberate choice, and is there a config somewhere?
It makes a lot more sense for the title to go to the actual linked article.
Why even have a usable comment button if the default behavior is for the title to link to the comments?

Is Grammarly premium worth it?
According to this chart I’m going to sound like a beta male if I don’t buy it.

The great thing with the fediverse is that a big company can run its own forum/microblogging instance and therefore communicate with their customers while maintaining full control over their content.
No need for them to chase the next big platform like reddit/facebook/google+, and no need to create "official accounts" on each....
