As a regular user who doesnt like social media, this is something that all regular users should be aware of. You can easily get your info taken and processed in a way that becomes consistent with a shadow profile of you made by facebook or other companies in order to track you. There would be no difference in using kbin and using facebook if your info is open to everyone for companies to scrape and parse.
This will likely lead me to stop using kbin and wait for something more private oriented to come up
To be fair, if it wasnt for the blackout it wouldnt have given me the motivation to finally move on to kbin. Im sure this will push others to do the same. If all it takes is to slowly dwindle the reddit user by doing the same thing then im all for it.
Of course, i do see why there shouod be more creative protests to switch things up and see what else works.
I discovered yesterday evening that Lemmy.ml is blocking all inbound ActivityPub requests from /kbin instances. Specifically, a 403 'access denied' is returned when the user agent contains "kbinBot" anywhere in the string. This has been causing a cascade of failures with federation for many server owners, flooding the message...
Doesnt surprise me, the developers of lemmy (which are owners of .ml) have an agenda. They are into censoring on ukraine news, and other stuff. I dont get why people are choosing lemmy over kbin when they are equally bad looking
Its a huge downgrade from reddit in terms of visual quality. But im soeaking on mobile safari so i guess that will explain alot but anyways heres what i see.
The posts that have pictures dont really show that well until you click on it. You need to scroll down a whole thread to comment on a post. Creating a post/thread is confusing, its hard to navigate “magazines” (idk why theyd call it that), theres a lot of problems with it.
Lemmy looked pretty bad on mobile safari, far worse than kbin
I remember holding it in for so long i shat out a 12 inch log, i shit you not, it had to be broken up (via flushing) so the pieces could easily flow through the pipes
This blog post by Ploum, who was part of the original XMPP efforts long ago, describes how Google killed one great federated service, which shows why the Fediverse must not give Meta the chance
Unfortunately, the fact that lemmy isnt in the pact to not federate with meta means history will repeat itself
Even then, i doubt theres enough strong willed people to actually resist big payouts in exchange for access to the federation. Its truly pathetic how people are easily convinced
A growing number of instances (mainly of Mastodon so far) are signing an 'Anti-Meta Fedi Pact', pledging to block any instance owned by Meta in the fediverse....
Having meta into the fediverse is the easy way out. Meta is going to grow like a cancer in the fediverse, enticing weak minded instance owners with a large pool of users to sign a contract to allow meta to implement their ads or their i fluence somehow in order to make their profits.
I dont see why youd want anything like that to take part when its going to be the same bullshit
Shouldn't make assumptions to absolve anyone of tax evasion. Its very common with rich people. Why make excuses for this guy? Just cause it would prove the right wingers right?
I personally think right wingers are pretty stupid but if the truth is in the right wings favor then we just gotta suck it up and accept
It seens like theres no feature for that yet, unfortunately. Given that the dev is currently on the stage where hes improving the front end (website that we the consumers see) id expect that in a couple of months
Kbin is way better than lemmy, i never understood why lemmy took off better than kbin. Also devs of lemmy are shady people that censor info especially regarding ukraine

Mordhau is definitely one of few casual games medieval fighting game where you can mindlessly kill other players and laugh your ass off. But at the same time its the type of game you can get really good at too. So it has a very in depth combat experience

Regarding what you said about censorship, censorship on reddit doesnt equate the censorship on a federated network. Sure you can get banned from an instance but lets say theres an instance (will be more likely) that allows total free speech?
With reddit, youll be banned no matter which subreddit you go. The fediverse cant ban you. Thats the biggest difference
