Glamposhim,

I still think it's needed but it doesn't need to be forced. The /m/technology can have a "local" and "federated" tag so the users can pick and choose whether to see Kbin or the rest of the lemmyverse magazines/communities.

One other problem is that people won't be bothered to know the name of the site just the community. Like on reddit, it's just /r/technology and /r/askreddit. On Lemmy, it's beehaw/c/technology and then some other one which I don't remember which is a problem.

/m/asklemmy should just go to all of them and then I can pick and choose which ones to see.

Glamposhim,

To use that example, I keep saying it but say gaming@reddit1, gaming@reddit2, gaming@reddit3 exists. If i'm on reddit4 and go on gaming there, to make this federation work I need the ability to see all the gamings across the fediverse.

Otherwise, I'll have to go on each "reddits" to see it. So yes, it is possible to get one thematic sub but it's not done yet

How can we smooth out the migration and help promote kbin/lemmy to subreddits and redditors?

I think the biggest thing we need to figure out is how to make it sound easier than people say it is. People get too hung up on the technicalities of how the fediverse works, and they never try it out and see that it isn't as confusing as it sounds. If we could write up a simple blurb to help promote kbin to subreddit moderators...

Glamposhim,

So most people just want a front page with stuff. Granted I know Kbin is currently not displaying Lemmy stuff, but when it does if people just go to Kbin and see all the activity from everywhere that's good enough for most people.

But what needs to happen either at Kbin level or Lemmy level is each "sub"/"mag" needs to show all other fediverses' too. Otherwise it's just fragmented.

When all that is set up, just link people too kbin or beehaw and people would none the wiser

Glamposhim,

Closest would actually not be Twitter but the /comments after a subreddit. There used to be a tab for it, but they've hidden it. It's just basically all comments posted in a sub.

Granted microblog is just all comments in that microblog area but it's the closest thing to it.

Glamposhim,

Why are Marxist Leninist so pro-China anyway? Like doesn't China practice heavy capitalism and have a crap load of billionaires? Not very marxist there. Nor is their insistence on horrible worker rights and disallowing trade unions.

Seems like a lie that it's "ML"

Glamposhim,

It's so fun seeing my subscribed subreddits list get shorter and shorter.

Glamposhim,

But there will still need to be a sort of "front page". That's what made Reddit so popular. It was a centralised link aggregator. What we need now is a not really centralised but a sort of aggregator for all the subs/magazines/instances across the fediverses.

Like if I go to /m/technology right now, I'm only seeing Kbin.social's. Ideally, it'd show all technology subs in that one page.

That way it actually combines the pros of Reddit and the Pros of the fediverse. Casual users still want a simple to use site. If they can be guided to jump on kbin.social or whatever, they need to see everything across the fediverse.

Glamposhim,

Considering that's how it is by default on the "front page" as in all feds and see other feds, it's definitely a thing they know that keeps this fediverse going. They need to implement it deeper for individual subs.

Not sure if that's a kbin thing or a Lemmy thing. And to make it better when you post, you can choose which server to post it on.

Glamposhim,

Agreed with no.2 While no.1 is a thing that people will naturally do, it kinda defeats the point of this fediverse thing. But no.2 combines the best aspect of the spreadout fediverse while seeing everything in one area.

/m/technology only showing kbin stuff is kinda limiting though. I hope they change it so it becomes like the All page but for "technology" and so forth. I mean they already do show the "similar instances" in the side bar, just shove those posts into the page and it should be good. And if people don't like it, they can just filter out instances they don't like.
