Wow, logging onto kbin.social the past couple days and watching it become more and more reddit-y has sucked. People demanding new features, defending CP, the fuck is up?
I knew using the Fediverse would require lots of personal curation, but I thought we were better than this. Could definitely see beehaw.org defederating from kbin.social soon :/
Hello there. Angry parents stories are sadly more common, but I remember reading back on Reddit a heartwarming story about a dad who accepted fully his daughter. So while we all know how "bad" relationships usually go, I'm curious to hear about people who had love and support in their journeys.
Yeah, my parents are pretty great. The funny thing is I think they expected me to change a lot but I'm really the same. Plus it got my mom really involved in local LGBT things which is swag.
The thing is, this is a third party app. The platform we're on is the Fediverse, it's just third party apps. No, they don't provide the same thread-like experience that you get on kbin, but for now, there's not much a difference in simply browsing kbin instances from Mastodon apps or the similar. This isn't currently great for kbin.social with all the troubles federating, but explore your options!
Whether you're a Reddit refugee, a lurker, or already a member of the fediverse, Kbin welcomes you! This magazine contains guides from the perspective of someone completely new to the fediverse....
Yes, you would, although each post may have unique discussion. I think it's about finding a balance between having quality discussion while not clogging up your feed.
You'd search their address in the search function, so if you wanted to follow the fedia worldnews magazine, you'd search "<at>worldnews<at>fedia.io" replacing <at> with @ and it'd pop up. BUT, kbin.social is currently not federating with other instances, so this doesn't really work right now, though it will soon once things are more stable. I suggest playing around with this on another instance or app like mastodon!
Tbh, this has been on my mind for the past two days, so I hope you guys don't mind if I unload it here. I tend to obsess and I figure if no one cares, then at least I can get it out of my head instead of thinking about it all the time. Also sorry for the length, I promise I have a doctor's note....
Seriously. What I love about here, the only thing people have to gain from participating is... participating. No points, reputation, just genuine, human contact. Things already feel more human, now that people are sharing real thoughts and ideas, not locked behind the filter of "what will get me the most karma."
New migrants please be patient. This is a lot like Nov 2022. It will be choppy, but get sorted out. This is another golden opportunity to break down corporate social media.

@Otome@kbin.social From what I understand, not everything from Mastodon/The Fediverse is pulled, that would be impossible, only profiles / tags / groups that are 'called up' by users in the instance.
I believe one cannot separate politics from code, as the very philosophy of FOSS is political, and based on that opinion I don't really believe beehaw can separate itself morally from the Lemmy devs. Secondly, as long as Lemmy software is used, it supports the developers, in the same way as we're supporting Ernest through donations. In my mind, in order to truthfully be independent, Beehaw should fork the software and make it theirs, which they discuss in this post. These are just my thoughts.
I was running to get my train. For a reason i still can't explain, in the station entrance hatch, i turned right instead of continue right and hit the glass with my face. I have now a scar near the eyebrow.
I'm so happy you're here! And yeah, the subreddit has some great conversation. Reading it straight through is what I did, too. I'm not sure if you'd already heard, but I recommend reading through the old forums when you're finished, which is almost like supplementary material, with all the speculation.
Trans people with accepting parents: How did your relationship change?

Confused on how to navigate to the homepage on mobile
When navigating kbin on desktop, clicking the kbin logo at the upper left brings me to the homepage....
Isn't it ironic.... that we all left reddit because 3rd party apps were being killed off, and came to a place where there are no 3rd party apps.
edited to meet rule #3!
