This is going to be kbin focused because that's the infra I'm most familiar with, but if any part of this is relevant to Lemmy and other upcoming aggregators it's worth a think too:...
Is there really a reason, for example, for there to be the distinction of "magazine" and "community"? When you're federating, the same features should be called the same, if close enough. That way everyone can talk with everyone about stuff and we all immediately understand each other....
mhhm, wonder if it would be possible to make a gresemonkey script that unifies everything across the platform.
Including switching the boost and favorite position. The only issue would be the url staying the same and having the /c/ or /m/ folder
I'm still in the process of moving old saves off my Reddit account and found this gem today. Reddit HQ is coping hardcore, I can't image regular users actually care about this.
Have you ever been a mod? I was made mod in a subreddit long time ago, but i left it. I also got modinfo from reddit from time to time so i figured thats what it was that caused me to see this
So hopefully I'm doing this right! :) (I'm still new to some of this so haven't figured out things yet! I did ask this via Mastodon also, but wanted to add more detail to my answer!)...
Yeah i can see how this game is not for everyone since it is a huge puzzle exploring game and you can get lost on what to do easily. The information board on your ship though gives you some idea on where to go next most of the time and helps you to figure stuff out
wanted to try mastodon, but what really annoyed me was the the blinding bright post box in dark mode. Everything was nice and dark, but the post box had to be white. tried to find a user script to fix it, but there were none
i think it is really nice that you can use a time filter of 3h, 6h,12h 1d in kbin.
This makes finding new content so much easier without having the raw state of new
Having a news article finally promote a fediverse instance is a win in my book.
Only issue is that lemmy and kbin should have still been mentioned as a whole, especially since registering to beehaw seems to take some time.
Another non federated alternative that seems to have some traction with reddit refugees is squabbles. Sad that it didn't get mentioned since it also reached ~17k users. This could end up a good alternative for people that find the fediverse too complicated. Though i myself prefer kbin so far.
Could be interesting if this contains some data showing how reddit stores data and shines more info on reddit restoring deleted comments, since that could become a GDPR issue.
what i really hope this data will not contain:
User Login credentials. Though if it did, the hackers would probably already have taken control of some admin accounts.
No need to preorder/buy it, since the game will be on gamepass on release.
What point is there to not try the game for 10€ for a month? You can cancel it anytime.
If it's shit, you still have a huge library of big name games you can play. You can also get gamepass keys for much cheaper on ebay or key resellers but there you might get scammed. Also if you have friends with gamepass ultimate, they can give you free 14 day trial keys.
If the game turns out great, you can still just buy it later on sale
If you do in the end decide to pull the trigger, remember the game is on gamepass for a fraction of the price. If it ends up running badly for you, you still have a huge choice of other games to play
i can respect that, I myself avoid blizzard, riot, EA and Ubisoft and only install stuff if forced by friends for coop.
The games themselves though install through the xbox app and not directly from the shitty Microsoft store. In the end it all runs through the same service probably, but the xbox app is at least a better user experience.
My point was simply that people can avoid throwing money on shitty games like redfall if they just try it out on gamepass instead.
While owning the games is great, the site could be improved if they crosscheck and mention all of those games if they are in the XBox gamepass available on PC.
Most of the time you will be able to finish those games in a month and have a cheaper deal that way.
Out of this list, the following games are on the gamepass:
Forza Horizon 5
A Plague Tale: Requiem
Age of Empires IV: Anniversary Edition
Grounded
The Outer Worlds $19.79 on Steam
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge
Pillars of Eternity - Hero Edition
Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire
Deep Rock Galactic (No Crossplay though)
House Flipper
Road 96
Fallout New Vegas Ultimate
Injustice 2 Standard Edition
Frostpunk
Generation Zero
Moonlighter $2.99 on Steam
No Man's Sky $29.99 on GOG
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition
Middle-earth: Shadow of War™ Definitive Edition
Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Game of the Year Edition
Additional similar Titles:
Crusader Kings III
Mortal Kombat 11
Some of the EA Play and Ubisoft connect games might also be available to play, they do have a partnership with Gamepass. These are just harder to look up in the client
Without Windows you will have to stream it probably:
if you have a normal PC but you just prefer using the steamdeck anywhere at home, you could stream your PC with Sunlight&Moonlight (kinda like steamlink but people say it works better)
GeforceNow might also work
If you own an Xbox you can also stream from there instead of using xcloud. This should also be no issue for quick resume.
Other Options requiring Windows:
I believe you can install Windows to a microSD so you can just use the SD card if you want to boot to windows instead.
How do kbin instances (and all aggregator protocols) work to maintain privacy and safety? What can we put up on the roadmap (when there is one)? (Instance members at least; ppl posting on fedi in general)
This is going to be kbin focused because that's the infra I'm most familiar with, but if any part of this is relevant to Lemmy and other upcoming aggregators it's worth a think too:...
Kbin and Lemmy should come to a consensus on how to name stuff
Is there really a reason, for example, for there to be the distinction of "magazine" and "community"? When you're federating, the same features should be called the same, if close enough. That way everyone can talk with everyone about stuff and we all immediately understand each other....

Is there a computer game, or a specific moment, a fight etc that you wish you could do fresh with no prior memory of it?
So hopefully I'm doing this right! :) (I'm still new to some of this so haven't figured out things yet! I did ask this via Mastodon also, but wanted to add more detail to my answer!)...
