Mastodon since 4.2 version supports allows its users to opt into appearing into search results. Just respect this flag with Mastodon users, and you will be fine, IMHO

Poland - Former ruling party holds sit-in at state TV as new government takes control of public media (notesfrompoland.com)

Controversy has erupted around Poland’s public media, with members of the conservative former ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party – including its leader Jarosław Kaczyński – holding a sit-in protest at state broadcaster TVP amid efforts by the new government to exert its control.

RTR#47 Silent tests are being conducted on the instance

Quiet tests of the latest changes and patching of outstanding errors are ongoing on the instance. The remaining changes will be implemented by the end of the week. I have also completed all outstanding formalities related to the project and everyday matters. Starting from next week, work will pick up pace. Until then, I would...

Federation bug report: it looks, that I am not receiving posts from a write.as blog (despite following it for some time)

Lemmy.world Should Defederate with Threads

I think it’s pretty safe to say that the majority of us are here to avoid another corporate takeover of our preferred platforms. It would seem to me to be a tad irresponsible to allow Facebook into our space with open arms, allowing them to hoover up our data. I would love to keep using Lemmy.world, but will happily change...

It’s perfectly possible to create a watertight federated network excluding both federation and scraping from Threads/Meta on Mastodon using authorized fetch and whitelisting.

Authorised Fetch is not supported yet by /kbin

Server side. Lemmy.ml has a slur filter.

"i am an instance admin/mod on the fediverse. by signing this pact, i hereby agree to block any instances owned by meta should they pop up on the fediverse. project92 is a real and serious threat to the health and longevity of fedi and must be fought back against at every possible opportunity"

This is not an exhaustive list. For example, Instagram Threads profiles are available from kbin.social, which is not listed here, though.

@the74 is on Flipboard? Of course, I am following them!

Bug: If I am trying to upvote a comment after having the thread open for some time, I am getting an error message. Header says "Log in" as I wasn't already logged in.

According to https://fediverse.observer, these are largest threadiverse instances by MAU (but pay attention to different method of counting active users between instances...):

lemmy.world - 11 344
kbin.social - 5 134
lemmynsfw.com - 4 276
lemmy.ml - 3 097
feddit.de - 2 873
lemm.ee - 2 202

largest /mbin instance - fedia.io is 221, and it is 2?th by active users
second largest /kbin instance is karab.in and it has 38 MAU

Threads' federation will be opt-in, at least for now (www.threads.net) Polish

@mosseri: The current plan is you'll have to have a public account and explicitly opt in to your content being available on other servers. This is consistent with what other large players like WordPress are doing, but somewhat controversial within the Mastodon community. If we end defaulting people in, we'll absolutely offer an...

A case for preemptively defederating with Threads

With Meta beginning to test federation, there's a lot of discussion as to whether we should preemptively defederate with Threads. I made a post about the question, and it seems that opinions differ a lot among people on Kbin. There were a lot of arguments for and against regarding ads, privacy, and content quality, but I don't...

Threads is the smaller player here compared to twitter/bluesky.

Smaller than X, yes, but it's already bigger than Bluesky. And with its Instagram integration it can be bigger even than X-Twitter.

Both Iceshrimp and Sharkey should have better compatibility with Mastodon clients

I didn't know. But perhaps it works.

The average user doesn’t know or care about the “perks” of non-Facebook Mastodon instances that Eugene is talking about. They will go with the service with the most name recognition every time, rather than trust an independent, small-time instance operator.

Threads advertises itself as "interoperable with the Fediverse", which will fuel curiosity in some users. And Mastodon isn't only small-time operated instances. Creators of Vivaldi web browser created their Mastodon instance and bundle it with their browser account. Mozilla is preparing to do the same. Medium and Flipboard are another examples.

And of course, we have official instances of Mastodon, Pixelfed or e.g. /kbin.

Threads is oficially starting to test ActivityPub integration (www.threads.net)

Mark Zuckerberg: Starting a test where posts from Threads accounts will be available on Mastodon and other services that use the ActivityPub protocol. Making Threads interoperable will give people more choice over how they interact and it will help content reach more people. I'm pretty optimistic about this.

We are on the real threading app, with access to both Lemmy threads and Instagram Threads ;)
