Today's social media transform us into merely numbers.
No problem for me.

OC Sublinks Aims to Be a Drop-In Replacement for Lemmy (wedistribute.org)

Seems like an interesting effort. A developer is building an alternative Java-based backend to Lemmy’s Rust-based one, with the goal of building in a handful of different features. The dev is looking at using this compatibility to migrate their instance over to the new platform, while allowing the community to use their apps...

From the project website:

Sublinks, crafted using Java Spring Boot, stands as a state-of-the-art link aggregation and microblogging platform , reminiscent yet advanced compared to Lemmy & Kbin.

But the author of PieFed, written in even more popular language than Java (Python) said:

The thing with the more twitter-style ActivityPub projects is they send activities to individual users inboxes a lot, whereas with the threadverse it's all shared inboxes. So there's a fundamental difference in the way they use the protocol which makes scaling those projects much more difficult. My gut feel is that adding full microblog support would increase the size and complexity of the codebase by at least 50% and triple the server load. Maybe much more. It just doesn't seem worth it.

A feature creep?

(maybe they see a bus factor = 1 as the only issue of /kbin, though)

Proposed solution 2: Multi-communities

They are already implemented on /kbin - as Collections

A) Appoint more administrator (or other system roles with the ability to block/delete spam accounts)

@ernest already wanted to do this back in this autumn. It looks, that /kbin software actually was not ready to this, though. :/

Google Index as a Digital Palimpsest - The Disappearance of Information on the Internet (dadalo.pl)

I tackle the issue of digital content disappearance. Inspired by the concept of a palimpsest, I analyze how digital layers of information are successively replaced and how important contents can vanish from our digital world. The article uncovers the secrets of Google's algorithms, shedding light on their impact on the...

kbin.social is only PWA right now. There is Interstellar app for Android being developed right now, but it is available only via Github releases (no Google Play nor F-Droid). And it works only on https://kbin.earth (or instances of /kbin fork called /mbin) right now.

I think that it would be good to mirror the Lemmy repositories to a FOSS alternative (e.g. Codeberg)

Currently, the Lemmy Project only uses Github for its repositories related to Lemmy’s development (e.g. Lemmy, Lemmy-UI). GitHub is a proprietary service, and it is owned by Microsoft. These facts open the door for a myriad of potential issues across the ecosystem, and community. I would like to clarify, though, that I don’t...

@livus, you probably want to add another hashtag to this mag:

Reddit's multireddits (a combined feed from multiple reddits) are a small step in this direction on a centralized social network, and there have already been requests for similar Lemmy functionality ("supercommunities")

They are already introduced into /kbin - as Collections

By the way, hello from /kbin, the federation works!

It's up to PieFed developers if they actually want this feature

Why the hell are people joining instead of ? The fediverse is clearly better. I'll never understand it.

@Jezebelley3D Because they want exactly Twitter and not something, which „may be actually much, much bigger”? And BlueSky exactly delivers it.
No worries, works on bridging ATProto and AP are underway.
