LanternEverywhere,

Union? In China unions are rare.

LanternEverywhere,

Fyi, the US is the second biggest manufacturer after China. And per capita the US is a bigger manufacturer.

LanternEverywhere,

I upvoted your other comments but downvoted this one. Don't be a dick. Discuss the topic, but don't do ad hominem insults

LanternEverywhere,

On many microwaves there's a secret method to mute the beeps, like hold down the 9 button for 5 seconds or whatever. Do a search for your particular model to find out how to do it

LanternEverywhere,

You clearly never checked, because it's a name used for both genders

Spotify CEO Daniel Ek surprised by how much laying off 1,500 employees negatively affected the streaming giant’s operations (fortune.com)

When Spotify announced its largest-ever round of layoffs in December, CEO Daniel Ek hailed a new age of efficiency at the streaming giant. But four months on, it seems he and his executives weren’t prepared for how tough filling in for 1,500 axed workers would be....

LanternEverywhere,

If i wasn't getting spotify premium for free then I'd seriously look into getting Tidal.

RATE. Injury rate per person.

The only thing that matters is how many injuries happen per person. That's the whole point. Every company could increase output by sacrificing worker's health, but we as society strongly condemn that because that's truly fucked up.

LanternEverywhere,

No absofuckinglutely not. That's psychotic and you should feel like garbage for even thinking that. Being ok with more people being hurt and killed just so a company can churn out more product is vile.

LanternEverywhere,

If space projects can't be done faster without pushing kids into the orphan crushing machine, then it shouldn't be done faster.

LanternEverywhere,

Sure, but 2.5 years is very real time. Some people might be willing to risk doing similar crimes if they think they'll only get a couple of months, but if they think they might get a couple of years that's a very different thing and it might deter many of them

I don't know, but Trump is the one who said that. He went on a long screed about how Mexicans who are crossing the border are killers and rapists and drug dealers, and then at the very end of the rant he quietly threw in "and some, I assume, are good people"

Columbia Law School Faculty Condemn Administration for Mass Arrests and Suspensions (theintercept.com)

On Sunday, 54 Columbia Law School professors sent a letter to university leadership condemning the school’s decision to summarily suspend student protesters and to authorize a police raid on campus. The procedural irregularity of the mass suspensions, the lack of transparency about how decisions were made, and the involvement...

LanternEverywhere,

Not only is it horrible that the administration did this, but it's also stupid that they did this. If they didn't make a fuss over the protest then it would've come and gone with minimal disruption and without almost anyone even being aware of it, but by doing what they did it made the protest become huge news and led to a massive amount of pressure hitting on the admins who did it.

LanternEverywhere,

Got a source for all that?

LanternEverywhere,

I wonder if this might be a situation where autonomous vehicles could really solve a problem. Like if there were like 2 or 3 minivan size vehicles that you could summon to ferry you from your house to the nearest real bus stop. The vehicle would only have to go like 20 miles an hour to make it safe for pedestrians and be compellingly worthwhile to make people take the bus instead of drive

LanternEverywhere, (edited )
LanternEverywhere,

3 human drivers 24/7 would be too expensive. And suburb subdivisions are perfect for autonomous systems, it's a very unchanging route with rarely any other people or cars on the road and the speed limit is already capped at a very low number

LanternEverywhere,

Sorry but he's right on this one. A home isn't just like a house. A mobile home is still a home. If the structure keeps you safe from the elements, contains some of your possessions, and is the place where you sleep usually, then that's absolutely a home

LanternEverywhere,

Sure, but imo it still qualifies as enough to mean you're not homeless. There are other terms that might apply though, like shelter insecure or something. If you have a safe place where you can sleep in, and come and go as you please, and that you legally have the rights to possess, then you aren't homeless

LanternEverywhere,

Ya know what's even worse than that? People who complain about how dumbed down everything is without first even clicking on the article to see if the actual paper is linked to. Which it is.

LanternEverywhere,

And fire departments, libraries, public schools, police departments, etc etc etc. Every government service funded by taxes are all socialist. And I'm sure OP doesn't want to eliminate the police, do you OP?

Does any language have a word for mixing a beverage by pouring from one vessel into another?

I don’t mean something like “pour” or “mix” in the English language. The word should capture the idea of pouring from one vessel into another with the goal of going from a semi-heterogenous solution to a mostly-homogeneous solution....

LanternEverywhere,

Definitely just a rock. Here's a link where you can see lots of rocks with interesting markings, including a bunch that look like yours but with even more delineated markings.

OP if you're thinking of this as anything other than just a regular rock then I'd suggest maybe getting in touch with your doctor

Why oled only? Modern lcd screens are fantastic. For example look at the OnePlus n30, its lcd screen is super bright, very colorful, has absolutely no PWM, has a refresh rate of 120 hz, has a wide viewing angle range with no change in brightness or color, and is just gorgeous all around.

LanternEverywhere, (edited )

Well for half of that, the spec you actual care about is battery life. The n30 has massive battery life. And for good modern non-curved lcd screens there's never any backlight bleed anywhere. Yes, the blacks aren't fully completely as black, but on a good modern lcd they're very close to it, and in exchange you get all the screen advantages i listed above. Oled always has worse viewing angles, worse color accuracy, worse way of making the screen "dimmer" by using pwm rather than actually making the screen dim, etc.

LanternEverywhere,

But again it sounds like the spec you actually care about is battery length. If you get an oled phone with a medium capacity battery, then its usable battery length would be far surpassed by an lcd phone with a large capacity battery.

Obviously you should go with whatever you like, I'm just trying to help you figure out what are the actual features you care about.
