Australia has had a similar transformation (scroll down for the graph) Australian Census data with no sign of slowing down.

I believe the uptick in "other" religions is due to migration, but I don't have any evidence for that.

I mean, on the commandline you still type dir, mkdir, and cd in Windows. DOS was true to the naming convention, it was only the evil lure of skeuomorphism which corrupted the naming convention with the introduction of the GUI.

What I found useful with RES on Reddit was being able to see the user's reputation based on my interactions with them, not their overall reputation.

I disagree. There are a lot of niche porn communities on Reddit with active participation and discussion.

Consider, for example, r/EroticHypnosis (NSFW). Content of that nature is difficult to find, and there's a lot to discuss about personal experiences and how to practice. There's a community around that topic and it fits very well into this format.

A small FAQ to hopefully help new users to kbin (kilioa.org)

I wanted to post this here since I want to help as much as I can in my own way to people coming here for the first time. I hope it is useful and helpful! I tried to assume low knowledge with the Fediverse in my responses which I collected here from a different post and assembled into a single article....

When making a thread, there are options to add "tags" and "badges". What is the purpose of these? How are they used by kbin.social and other Fediverse servers like Mastadon and Lemmy?

Edit: Are there plans to add help information for this kind of thing in the UI?

There's a magazine for webcomics: https://kbin.social/m/webcomics

I'd recommend Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal for self-contained jokes (kind of science-themed)

Drowning out nuance, expertise, and long-form content.

The algorithm will promote content with 20 upvotes in 1 hour over one with 50 upvotes in 5 hours. Due to this, content which takes a long time to digest are always hidden compared to short-form media or short comments.

Additionally, there is no way to distinguish an ignorant user's comments from one who has expertise in the area they are commenting on.

Finally, as the algorithm treats every vote equally, media and comments which appeal to the common person is what is promoted. (Often called the "hivemind"). In some cases, this works well, but in others it promotes comments which are short, definitive, and align with what people want to hear.

My issue with Nebula is that it's a closed federation of content creators. That's not bad per-se, but it means that if you wanted to make the jump from YouTube to Nebula, there are plenty of content creators who get left behind. It would be really nice to have a recommendation system or something so that users can at least signal who they'd like to see on the platform.

These days it's largely Reddit, YouTube, and Discord. These are some notable feeds I'm subscribed to:
