How do reputation points work in Kbin?
New here: so is it documented anywhere how reputation points work? Do they federate?

fr0g, I'm not sure the reputation system is currently implemented properly. Until a short while ago "upvotes" correlated to fedi-"boosts", but recently it was switched to fedi-"likes". I have a hunch that the reputation system hasn't been changed to account for that and still might count boosts and dislikes or something similar. (Boost my post to help me find out! 😛)
grus, still might count boosts
Goddamn, you're right! It counts the boosts! I boosted you and your reputation went from 11 to 12 instantly.
Pinging @blobcat @tchambers, we got a winner!
PS: Also, I just tried it and boosted my own comment. It counts those auto-boosts too!
Yeah, probably sometime in the future this needs to get fixed, lol.
fr0g, I filed an issue on the codeberg repo for now. Ernest is probably still swamped with keeping the server alive at this point.
FaceDeer, BRB, going to boost all my comments. :)
arkcom, If it stays at a;;, it might be better that it stays counting boosts. That would be a higher standard at least, being things people actually wanted to share.
zefhemel, Since this is not Reddit it doesn’t need to be a duplicate of it. The question is: do we need a reputation? Or would not having one lead to a healthier community?
jared, Or could the reputation be made more useful, maybe categories or specialties?
Lenguador, What I found useful with RES on Reddit was being able to see the user's reputation based on my interactions with them, not their overall reputation.
noodlejetski, The question is: do we need a reputation?
any kind of score system encourages people to try and game it with low effort content and makes them more focused on numbers than actual discussion. we don't need that here, and I'm saying that as someone who's had over half a million karma on their main reddit account.
grus, Reputation could also be useful when its in the negatives since that can denote either a troll account, or contrarian, or worst case for the user - a new account that got unlucky. And in those cases admins/mods might find it useful to limit access to magazines?
Maybe they can make it so that at high reputation number it shows a vague term instead of exact one (like user is listed as having more than 1k+ reputation - regardless if its 1209 or 654,000)
idk
whatever they choose, it'll be fine with me as long as its not broken and doesn't hinder my activity, I never really cared or thought about it on reddit, won't care about it on here tbh
Hovenko, Completely agree. It just lures all the low effort reposters and karma farmers.
blobcat, That's what I also want to ask. I got 2 points from my threads and -2 points from my comments, so it ends up with 0. No idea how it works.
grus, If it weren't for @tchambers, I wouldn't even know reputation points existed... but it's so weird? How are they even calculated?
You have 20 points total from the threads started, plus another 42 from your comments ... and then minus 2 downvotes and you get... 0/zero points?
How in the world?And I have -5 points. T_T but I have:
57 points from threads
2 negative point from threads
25 points from comments
5 negative points from commentsbut then tchambers has 3 points from threads, 8 from comments and his total is 3?
The hell kinda math is this?
Maybe it takes a while for reputation points to show?

Warped, Shinty-six?
blobcat, Doubt that, I would understand it takes a while if they are federated from a different instance but they are not 😵💫
