In 1980, when a ship collided with the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in Florida, killing thirty-five people, a top state engineer said the Key Bridge could not withstand a similar crash. “I’m talking about the main supports, a direct hit — it would knock it down,” the official reportedly told the Baltimore Sun.

Seems ignoring the warning signs for the bridge is a long standing tradition amongst Maryland politicians.

A friend of mine has Long Covid. Prior to catching it in 2020 she was in great physical shape and an avid hiker of the Scottish Munros. Now she has issues finding an activity that doesn't leave her winded, or extremely fatigued.

Long Covid is real, not something made up because a person was all ready in poor health prior to catching the virus.

Reddit revenue rises 20% ahead of IPO, but it isn’t profitable yet (www.businesstimes.com.sg)

REDDIT posted a more than 20 per cent rise in revenue in 2023 versus the year before, sources familiar with the situation said, as it prepares for one of the United States’ most anticipated potential initial public offerings (IPOs).

IPOs are typically a cash grab. Stock is offered for purchase at a price, and usually there’s a bump in price. The first investors will sell for a profit at peak price, and then it will drop to whatever value the market decides. And that could be higher or lower than the initial price per share.

That's Jesse Plemons. I don't see Video Game Highschool on his list of acting credits in IMDB.

You might be thinking of Bryan Forrest.

Madison_rogue,
Madison_rogue avatar

That's alright. When I first saw the episode USS Calilister I thought he was Matt Damon.

Plemons is actually married to Kirsten Dunst. He's got quite a lot of acting credits under his belt. Friday Night Lights, Varsity Blues, and most recently Killers of the Flower Moon with Leonardo DiCaprio.

I bet it has traction control which is great in wet conditions, and light snow. Get over 5" of snow and traction control is worthless if you start to get stuck.

So apparently after a quick search, I found that the truck does indeed have traction control, and it's buried somewhere in a submenu of it's touch screen controls. So I bet more than likely stuff like this is happening because the controls are not easily found and readily available to turn off when you need it.

Hell on my Jetta it's on the panel by the emergency brake. Easy to find and turn off.

Yes but they must fill their containers at a drinking water source…

Maybe it’s a language thing I’m not understanding.

I assume the article means that only 56% of the population have access to modernized drinking water sources (i.e. properly treated fresh water). More than likely SEED (Veolia) has been only concerned with profit, therefore neglecting to extend infrastructure outside urban areas.

I don't think Steven Moffat could write a series with the nuance that Aaron Sorkin can. He barely kept Sherlock and Doctor Who on a cohesive narrative. Just watching the past four episodes of Doctor Who under the guidance of Davies as showrunner again proved much of that.

I absolutely love this video essay, btw. I have yet to watch all of his plagiarism essay though...I'm only about an hour into it at this point.

Season of the Splicer is the last season where factions made an appearance. After that New Monarchy & Dead Orbit left while Future War Cult was disbanded...once Lakshmi-2 opened the Vex Portal in the Last City and was killed.

Lakshmi-2 was vocal about House of LIght refugees entering the city as allies to The Vanguard. She allied with Dead Orbit and New Monarchy after Savathûn tricked her under the guise of Osiris into rebelling against The Vanguard to rid the Last City of the allied Eliksni.

Honestly the only reason that narrative even exists is more than likely Bungie didn't really know what to do with factions any longer.

Ultimately, the only thing that may stand is the fact that the board of regents didn't give him due process in handing down the decision. The announcement was made that the board was firing one of the Chancellors literally a couple hours before handing down the decision. There was no hearing by the board.

Wisconsin Supreme Court orders new legislative maps in redistricting case brought by Democrats (apnews.com)

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The liberal-controlled Wisconsin Supreme Court overturned Republican-drawn legislative maps on Friday and ordered that new district boundary lines be drawn as Democrats had urged in a redistricting case they hope will weaken GOP majorities....

About time. Would love to see Robin Vos lose his majority seat in the upcoming year. Might not happen, yet now that possibility is much closer.

(13 years pass)

There's been a conservative majority in the state's high court since the 2008. Last year there was a SCOTUS case regarding gerrymandered districts that was thrown back to Wisconsin because the court said it was a "states issue."

This was the first time in 15 years the court could hand down a verdict like this, and it's about time. Wisconsin's legislative body has written itself a supermajority in the state houses even though the state is almost evenly divided between Republicans and Democrats.

'Chilling effect': People expressing pro-Palestinian views censured, suspended from work and school | CBC News (www.cbc.ca)

Restaurant staff losing their jobs for cheering on a pro-Palestinian protest. A Palestinian Canadian journalist fired for her social media posts calling for a #freepalestine. Medical residents flagged to potential hiring committees for their support of Palestinians....

A reasonable response; the language of the innocent. /s

Colorado Supreme Court, in landmark ruling, bans Trump from state’s ballot under insurrection clause (apnews.com)

The thing about Sucker Punch is that you can tell most of it's green screen (like 300). That's fine. Roll with it, embrace it, do it. Just don't try to combine that with filming locations outside a studio. That has a jarring effect on a viewer because they can still really tell the difference, especially with Snyder's type of filmmaking.

I've watched the first 45 minutes or so of Rebel Moon, and it is okay so far. It's not good, it's just okay. There's a mixture of on site filming locations, and something like "the volume" used which throws off my suspension of disbelief. Shots that are supposed to look outside look like a green screen and soundstage with dirt and other practical effects scattered about. Also, I can see why Disney passed up on Snyder's pitch though. Not 30 minutes in and it gets rapey.

I honestly find it has a well-worn plot, with paper thin characters that have predictable motivations, and nothing really new and noteworthy in its world building.

I'm starting to see some serious downsides to being able to see who downvotes you.

A few days ago I downvoted someone's comment, and the next day I happened to notice every single comment I've ever made had at least one downvote. All from the person I dared to downvote the ONE time. I straight up asked why they did it, and they seem to think I'm an "obvious" troll account that "apparently just exist to...

They went through all the trouble to downvote every post. You lived in that user's head rent free all that time. Wear that shit like a badge of honor. They're internet points; they're not important.

Oh fuck off already. That was all Huffman.

Season 5 of the series is a mess strictly because JMS was initially told there wouldn't be a 5th season. So he condensed much of his ideas for Season 4 and 5 into one season. Then the greenlight was given for season 5, and a lot of the material that ended up condensed or removed was rewritten into a full season.

That's why it seems the the series finale is The Deconstruction of Falling Stars S4E22.

Sony didn't have both versions readily available in the Playstation Store. While I did eventually purchase the DLC (which is the deluxe version, not a typical DLC), I'll be damned that Sony didn't make it easy to find the OG version in the store.

And I put that on Sony, not the game publisher. Regardless, BG3 has been a breath of fresh air to gaming this year. About time a studio put out a full game without divvying it up into expansions and DLCs.

I wish you would comment. Contributors in the sub aren't following the rules very well. I contributed pretty often, however I've slacked off since the beginning of October. The Israel/Palestine conflict has really taken over my feed (as well as some Trek and Star Wars memes). Yet with the Middle East news it's been difficult posting for some reason. My activity has been diminished severely.

The estate tax doesn't kick in until after the estate is worth more than $12.5 million dollars. Every penny before that isn't taxed.
