The world can be a pretty strange place, but it's good to look back and find at least one thing that was good to you today. Be that a nice conversation, a cool picture you saw, a song you heard... whatever! But if you didn't find anything good today, here's your sign: go do one thing for you, right now. Even if its just a moment...
I am really hoping I will be able to adopt a cat next year, I have had to move around so much and be in pet-unfriendly places for many years now and really missed having a little friend. Now I just want to be sure I am in a good position to look after them first and part of that job is looking after myself enough, lol. But it is a really good motivation!
Someone here already has 12 subs on his own. We would be inspired to avoid the era of the power mods. Moding should involve an interest, not just collecting rings of infinity like it's a gold rush. How can it be a good practice in the long term?...
idk how some people want to spread themselves so thin in this way, I have 2 tiny zines to look after and that is already plenty. I think some people are just camping as well, I have visited quite a few freshly-made zines the past few days where there is no welcome, nothing posted, and the mod is not participating anywhere really. I know there has been downtime and lag and folks are busy too, but it is kind of a bummer if they are not even going to try. :/
It's good to learn! I really only have prior experience from helping mod a discord chat which is a whole other kettle of fish, lol. I think for a lot of very niche topics the community kind of self-moderates anyway, but someone still has to keep an eye out for things like spammers.
yeah no, I didn't mean to imply they were mad with power! Sorry if that was the impression. I'm more just confused, but what you said makes sense about missing the old place and not being sure about what to do down the road.
Infant Islander all the way! lmao
Hardcore...not so much...unless you count powerviolence? But I'll check out GEL anyway, genres can be so broad and it's not unusual for me to not be super into one but still find a couple things to enjoy. :)
I'm mostly over on the punkier side of things I guess, grindcore, blackened crust, blackened speed, crossover thrash...buuut I do quite like a bit of death metal as well. :)
Recently on high rotation: Hellripper, Oxygen Destroyer, Internal Rot, Torture Rack
Some old faves: Bolt Thrower, Repulsion, Coffins, Undergang, Municipal Waste, Dishammer
Hello everyone. (I made this post on kbin too but it seems like this is the official magazine)
I recently joined this site and started being excited posting my videos on different magazines. But then I just got randomly banned by MothraCultist because I was spamming low effort AI content. I have worked really hard on these videos for months, the content is AI generated, not the creation of it, and I have been posting them slowly on reddit in different subreddits, but I just joined here so I have to post on different ones all together. It is not like I went on a magazine and started spamming, it is all over the site.
If you want this site to grow don't let power hungry people like her just randomly ban people, that is how sites grow, with people excited to spread content. After the initial large posting on different magazines I was planning to just post once or twice a day and be active, but I can no longer do it because I have been banned for 1 year. I find this ridiculous.
If you guys think I am wrong let me know, I just wanted to grow different communities with my content because some of them like ChatGPT literally had 0 posts.
@s804 I'll apologise for both the unnecessary descriptor and the pre-emptive bans, please understand I was seeing someone posting at a very high rate to many different magazines and didn't want to wake up to a big mess in my magazines. I've helped mod other communities before and high posting rate was one of the big red flags for bot behaviour. It was not "random" and you also didn't need to troll my comment history with downvotes in retaliation. I've lifted the bans and apologise for being hasty instead of contacting you first.
@s804 All right well I think we can clear the air and move forward, we both care about the same thing - good community - and I'm glad you are finding the new platform exciting and want to share. Me too! Maybe we can both be more mindful in the future.
Since running a Kbin instance implies some costs, it might be good to implement some ways for admins to monetize their instance. Has this been considered?
Hello, I'm very new to this and I thought it would be clever to create magazines of what I liked on reddit before anybody else. But I'm in over my head, I've never moderated anything, I don't understand the microblog and hashtags (never had a twitter or mastondon account). So I would like to delete the magazines I've created (3)...
I think it's temporarily disabled/not yet implemented, ernest can delete them as he is the instance admin but for now maybe your best option is to ask others if they want to come aboard as mods, and hand the keys over to them later on. Perhaps try a thread in /m/ModHelp and/or a pinned thread in your zines asking for help, and y'know, it's ok to feel a bit overwhelmed when you're learning a whole new thing. :)
What's currently the distinction between these? I created a magazine and wanted to add a welcome sticky (Reddit style) but that ended up on the microblog. But you can't sticky those for some reason. But I also can't find how to create a thread with just text from the drop down menu. Can someone explain the differences and why they are there?
Thx.
@lol3droflxp When adding a new thing like from the + menu, the "Add new post" is for only the microblogs. Everything else will be made as a thread. If you want to make a text-only thread, choose "Add new article". As to why it is how it is, I am probably not the right person to answer that, sorry! :)
Is there a way to block people or specific magazines so we don't have to see their comments or posts? One thing I really enjoyed about the app I'm leaving is that I can just block users who were annoying or I didn't want to see content wise. Is there a way to do that on kbin?
@TheaoneAndOnly27 So, go to either the page for the magazine or user you want to block, you should see a ᴓ type of symbol which is the block button. On the magazine page it should be just to the right of the subscribe button, and on a user's page it should be just to the right of the follow button. Click that thing and it should go red to indicate your block is successful! Also sometimes it takes a couple seconds to register, just wait it out :)
just a note to say uhhh i'm going to try tinkering a little with the /m/kaiju css. not too much, just a few little tweaks here & there to try jazz it up slightly! so if you see some colour changes that is what is going on. :3
I have done some (probably clunky af) css jazz now, I did test the colours for various type of colourblindness + with different #kbin themes so if anything is wildly awry please let me know and I will adjust as soon as I can

Should we establish a maximum of subs per moderators?

I'd love a community vibe check. What is everybody into? Subgenres/Bands/Favorite albums... let's talk about what we like.
