People who've worked in retail or foodservice, what are your worst bathroom related horror stories?

I work in a town that has a lot of trucker traffic with very little locals, they treat those toilets like they are just straight holes in the ground, never flush, never clean the seats if they miss, sweat stains stuck on after just an hour without cleaning....

Just yesterday a regular customer went absolute apeshit on my manager over the prices. We work in a franchise store, corporate sends us the prices and we update the boards, we don't set the prices.

They refused to listen to that and were claiming that we were just greedy. Yeah greedy, minimum wage greedy.

She handled them for about 10 minutes then got sick of getting yelled at, then an insult was thrown at her. She's from the ghetto and as soon as she walked around the counter and through the door to beat some ass that lady ran out of the store.

The answer changes depending on if I know when I'll die.

Currently, without future insight, I'm living like I'll die in my 60's. Live life slow, but not slow enough to let it run away, and enjoy the moment rather than thinking about the future too hard.

If I know when I'll die? I'm gonna live so fucking hard to do as much as I possibly can, make as big of an impression, and know when to disappear. Because, fear of death isn't something you should have normally unless you know you might die shortly. Otherwise, it's just a road that leads to nihilism and depression.

The real question is why the fuck are you so scared of dying without a reason to be scared? Just assume in your mind that you will live forever and that personal death isn't going to happen. It helps me move along.

How is it even possible/practical to obey traffic laws?

I’m talking specifically about obeying the speed limit, doing a full stop at stop signs, etc. After receiving a speeding ticket for doing 53 in a 50, As an experiment I went a full day obeying all traffic laws 100% and it caused so much road rage. For example, there is a 2 lane road near me with a speed limit of 50 (where I...

I have no choice but to do this in my current car, the transmission is fucked and if I accelerate too fast it slips and I don't go any faster. So I slowly go to the speed limit and slowly slow to a slow stop

NikkiNikkiNikki,
NikkiNikkiNikki avatar

And if I really hit that accelerator like people want me to, the thing slips, stops, and then suddenly engages full force and I burn out. So that's not much safer either

Minimum word counts are just stupid, if I can explain what I need too, with the correct amount of detail, in 100 less words than necessary, why shouldn't I be able to?

What is the worst US state to live in generally?

I’m aware that, at the moment, Florida is deemed unsafe for people to travel to, but what is generally the worst state to live in? Factors such as education, religious extremism, crime, cost of food, healthcare, and access to other resources are relevant. Will “Deep South” states remain one of the worst places to live in...

Nebraska is the exception, this state has some of the weirdest price of living to wage ratios. For example, in my town you cannot find a job that pays more than minimum wage without commuting to the other towns around you. But the rent is set at a point where you would need to work for $16 to $20 an hour to afford roof AND food. Wild stuff

This is the last post of a few where I post some graphics I made a few years ago for one of my 2d platformer projects.

I gave up work on it since the game engine was getting way too hard to debug and it was a real hassle

NikkiNikkiNikki,
NikkiNikkiNikki avatar

The game engine I was working on got too complex and I started running into some extremely difficult to solve bugs, at some point I said "fuck this" and stopped programming in C++ entirely. Have been learning Rust recently and am planning to continue with a new engine in that.

It's Almost Impossible To Find A Decent Used Car Under $20,000 (jalopnik.com)

Vehicles under $15k are 1.6% of the market, and their share of the market has dropped over 90% since 2019. The old advice that you can get a beater and drive it in to the ground for $5k hasn't been true for years but it still seems pervasive in personal finance spaces.

The used car market is so terrible where I live that I bought a 1999 Subaru Forester L with a completely trashed engine that could barely make it a block without overheating. I got it for around $200 in "scrap material" (Luckily the title wasn't a salvage yet).

So I completely took the engine apart myself and put in new head gaskets, pumps, belts, electronics and all that noise. I took it as a challenge to myself since my old cars' engine had completely stopped starting and absolutely nothing got it working again, and I had wanted to prove that I could fix a fucked up car. It took 2 months, but I saved so much money not buying an overpriced piece of trash that seems to saturate the used market right now. (Seriously? $6,000 for a beat up 30 year old sedan? Is everyone selling these cars insane?).

And the best part is that the total cost of this Subaru + all the parts needed was 1,700!

To put it in perspective I had found someone selling a 2002 Subaru Forester L for 3,000 on the side of the road. I could probably make a business out of this if I wasn't so slow...

Never did figure out what was wrong with the old car, we just ended up scrapping it because it was a complete lost cause. But if this were pre-pandemic I wouldn't have had to do that at all. I would've just slapped over 2,000 for a piece of garbage that needs some maintenance, and be on my way, no need for scrap diving, brain rotting and time wasting.

Some of the conservative psychopaths are so adamant against them because they are "too big", or think they make noise? Like do these idiots think that the turbines make wind???

Was in a very similar situation in nebraska, but recently a dealership in the town over opened a few spots for charging, so it is spreading, just very slowly

I use windstream in Nebraska and we lose service multiple times a day, get 200 down 50 up, and the whole town we're in has to use them cause they're the only choice -- 3.5

Network issues, my workplace has to frequently call the service techs to restore internet or else our online orders, phonecalls, and card reader stop working

It's not just Adobe. Now Logitech wants me to go to a random website in order to add peripherals to my computer, and I'm met with this when I go to the page they tell me to (lemmy.world)

As if it wasn’t bad enough that they want me to use a random internet service to add a keyboard to a usb wifi receiver, they have the balls to put this for Firefox users. I clicked out of pure curiosity, as I’m not even remotely interested in involving a corporate internet service in getting my keyboard connected to my...

The no text mode could very well be a nvidia issue, I gave up on using their cards some time ago when Wayland came out and nvidia was slow as hell on the uptake. Nvidia cards in general have more wacky bugs outside of the normal gui environments they were designed for. I had a 1050ti that would only display text mode in 320x240 mode with the proprietary drivers, and then would only display on one screen with the open sauce ones. Overall after switching to AMD I havent had any driver bugs besides the ones related to ryzen APUs locking up when switching power states, and that's been resolved for a little over a month. But I do understand why NVIDIA is the preferred choice for a lot, the performance difference is very real

Artemis is getting its public beta soon, so an apollo esc app with kbins microblog and lemmy support makes it worthwhile to stick around
